2017 Cadillac CTS V-Sport - Redline: Review

  • While sedans may no longer be the preferred choice, Cadillac reminds us just how much fun a luxury sport sedan can be. Despite not having the supercharged V8 monster from its big brother CTS-V, the 2017 CTS V-Sport packs a twin-turbo V6, Recaro seats, rear drive only, and one of the BEST handling chassis that money can buy. Don't call this your grandpa's Caddy, this sport sedan has the dial set far more toward sport versus luxury.

From an owner on cadillacforums :
    1. 19" wheels are still available.
    2. He referred to the engine as being the same as the ATS-V with less boost.
    3. Small fuel tank - 17 gal. It's 19.
    4. He talked about how the rears always hook up unlike the full V. He should have known that if you turn off TC and or put it in comp mode that it's very easy to light them up.
    5. Small back seat. It is if you have the front all the way back otherwise there's plenty of room.
    6. he referred to the transmission as a GM-sourced 8-speed. It's an Aisin unit.

The back seats are smaller than a Fusion or an Optima. It's a fair point, but I don't care, I only notice if I'm putting groceries on the floor back there.

I drive the 2015 CTS V-sport. The engine power and handling bring a smile to my face every day. It's a lot of power but easily manageable power. From a handling standpoint, the car feels smaller than it is. The interior could use a touch more room, especially behind the front seats. However there is good legroom for the driver which is one of the big reasons I chose this vehicle. I have the old pre-Apple CarPlay CUE and I really wish my car was upgradable to the new system. Heck, I'd pay for that upgrade but that's not possible. GM still isn't quite playing in the Tesla sandbox for upgradeable systems yet. Finally, I'm seeing about 19.1 MPG average over time.....not bad for a car with this much power and no hybrid drive train.

I own a '89 Sedan Deville and based on your comparison; I get better gas mileage than your 2017 CTS you just reviewed. You simply can't beat the supercharged V8 in the CTS-V. This newer generation V-Sport has a nicer interior and handles better, it may also prove to be easier to drive on a daily basis as well since it doesn't have so much power overwhelming the rear tires. You may however, miss the pull of the V8 in your old model.

This is my personal favorite Cadillac on the market! Despite its flaws, the CTS is still the only Cadillac worth its price! Escalades have the right look, but are nothing more than leather-lined Tahoes/Suburbans! And the XTS, while nice, is simply a nicer LaCrosse! The XT5 is mediocre at best, and the CT6, while handsome, is simply not enough to effectively compete with the true German flagship sedans!

Never knew much about GM & their turbo engines & their reliability history so I'm a little concerned about maintenance issues overall . Any input guys????

I have a 2.0T for about 3 years. Nothing wrong so far. I always do full synthetic oil changes.

I've never really liked Cadillacs before, but I like this one, although it looks good, right until those rear lights, which look out of place. Meh, Audi's are for accountants, this looks good and sounds good, I'd prefer this, never said that about a Cadillac before lol

Where are the redline top 5 vids? Normally I wouldn't mind you not uploading it but you keep referencing them in your reviews.

That plastic airbag looks crappy for a premium. Also just noticed the boost gauge in 2017 goes negative...my 2016 stops at 0.

12:50 I like touch better but in cold weather you could be right if sensitive but if y'all like y'all knobs all right hopefully they'll bring them back🤫
But I'm just happy for what I can afford though really 😫🙌
