It's believed that he's talking about his son, he was living the rockstar life and when he became a father that he changed his perspective on the more important things in life like family and being a father. There's also a possibility that he was referring to his mom that was paralyzed from a stroke and suffered a long time. There' are songs that he wrote about it because she was a Christian woman and held steadfast to her faith, and he struggled with it, the song Jimmy ( his name Maynard James Keenan) is talking about how that affected his life, and the other two Wings for Marie ( pt1) and 10,000 days (pt 2) is his tribute and acceptance of her never losing her faith. When you react to them do both of them together. These two songs are very special to me because I lost my mom in March 2020, and she was a Christian and held on to her faith as well. Very emotional and therapeutic at the same time.
I feel like it is both mother & son, I think it is about all the connections that are truly important. Be that a lover, mother, sibling, child or dearest friend. It is these connections that lift us out of the mire and drive us to better ourselves.
I love watchin people jam out to TOOL. Man i can't speak for everyone but you keeping it authentic with your feelings and experiences while you identify with the music is why people keep subscribing. Fun fact about you trying to figure out the timing, tool uses polyrhythms and each member is a master of their craft and instrument. Danny Carey the drummer has a drum cam for the song Pneuma and you can see the guy keeping 2 different rhythms with his feet and or hands separately.
Tool explores the bounds of what means to be human in their work. That is the highs and the lows. They do not shy away from the darker side of our reality. In 46 & 2 they talk about stepping through the shadow. Facing your demons head on and accepting them so you may change for the better. If we only turn away from the shadow it gains power over us that we cannot control. Pretending to have no faults doesn't make your faults disappear. Keep up your journey, there is wisdom and a hell of a lot of rocking ahead! .......Spiral Out!
Tool is an experience. First listen just close your eyes and go for the ride. No expectations. You won’t be able to guess where the song goes next so don’t bother. Go with the flow. After listening a few times you’ll know the pattern and you will be bopping your head nonstop!! The songs are so masterful every time you listen to them you’ll hear something new. Been listening to them for decades and just can’t stop being amazed!!
New sub here, I think you are going to really like Tool's message in their songs. A lot of them talk about personal growth and really exploring outside of your comfort zone. Their odd time signatures and odd sounds are a part of that, to bring you into a place that you're not familiar with. Their music is very theatrical, if you close your eyes, oftentimes you can see different things. Enjoy your journey with Tool.
The guitarist, Adam Jones, prior to forming Tool was a big Hollywood EFX artist, one film being "Jurassic Park". He also does the art in the videos so that's why it's so creepy
It's so much fun watching you onboard Tool. 😁 I think this one you've wrapped your head around their vibe. You can totally dance and groove to any number of beats and flows in just one song lol. I recommend Eulogy, the Grudge, H (another one about his son), and don't miss the Pneuma drum cam. These guys are amazing musicians!
Third eye live performance from 1998. Maynard shows you how you are supposed to bob your head to this music. Lol But FR you have to see this live performance!
Tool has a groove and cadence like no other band, an amalgam of many influences but distinctly their own sound and style...Tool create a groove and vibe, musically and lyrically, that is must listen music for music lovers of any genre . . . ~ "Spiral Out ~ Keep Going" ~
Yes, you were right. During the guitar solo, it was the electric guitar connected to a device called a talk box. It has a tube that goes up to the mic that sends the guitar sound up through the tube to the guitarists mouth. He can then alter the sound with his mouth that's then picked up by the mic and sent out. That' why it sounds so cool !! BTW, going forward, it's considered disrespectful to stop the song anytime there's a guitar solo. It's meant to be enjoyed in one piece. Good luck with your Tool journey and enjoy !!!
You had it right with your initial emotional reaction to the end of that song! Sometimes TOOL is scary, it’s really powerful music. I was dying laughing in agreement when you’re like, ‘ima just be honest, they be scarin me sometimes bro!’
Love your reaction! Refreshing to hear a reaction video where the audio mix between the track and the room mic is so well balanced, yo girl taught you good my man! Peace and love!
New father here. Love your channel. I know you’ll get the 100K. Such a beautiful vibe you got going on. 🔥😁 Suggestion - check out Ginnung - Wunjos dans Tool - Invincible
J....maaaan.....🖕 the haters first of all! Secondly man, i believe "Lateralus" would really help you in ur current life journey(just use lyrics), lastly man, ive seen all ur Ren rea tions and alot of others, ur cbannel is great and this TOOL journey is gonna be EPIC! Also this is the best reaction ive seen yet
Most fans seem to think he’s talking about how becoming a father changed his selfish views to caring more about this little child than about all his old self absorbed ways.
Great reaction, the polyrhythms and constant time signature changes keep you guessing if you aren’t used to their flow. Love your reactions. Would love ❤️ to see your interpretation of 46&2, soul searching.
Loving the reactions, seeing you enjoying Tool and just feeling the music helps all of us fans feel that first listen again. Id love to see The Grudge, Pneuma (vic firth drum cam version), Descending, 10,000 days/wings for marie both songs back to back. Just start with Lateralus and do the albums in order lol. I cant waot for your next Tool reaction!
Since you are digging Maynard's vibe you should do Tool Tuesday and Maynard Monday where we recommend somgs from his other two bands. Even splitting the two days it will take you a year to get thru it all. And we will see you cross that 100k line!
I don't see anybody else in the comments has mentioned it. The crazy guitar solo...that is done with a talkie box. It is a small tube in his mouth, attached to his guitar and he changes the tone of the guitar with his breathing and lips...pretty cool. Peter frampton does it in a song called do you feel like we do. And Bon Jovi used it in slippery when wet album.
If you let it, TOOL will change your life (for the better), if you let them. GREATEST band to have EVER walked the earth. Spiral 🌀 out all the way!! Try song “Pushit” of Aenima album (10k days is their best) sometime!
I was 21-22 when “Undertow” came out & it’s really cool to see young people listen to this music & “get it” 🖤🤘🏻I’ve seen Tool in concert 4x & man 😳🤯🤤one more thing…..we’ve all been played by a female my man…..you’re not a man until you have a woman rip your heart out & take a bite while staring straight into your eyes….it hurts more than anything but you keep going ,ya know why? You don’t have a choice 🤷🏼♂️
Maynard's lyrics are purposely vague and left open to interpretation. Tool fans make it a porpoise to find out exactly what he was talking about, and this one is about his son. ...another great one on the birth of his son is the song; (H.)
Messed up how you got played for 8 years... glad to see you're doing better now though. I am still clawing my way out of a pretty deep place now myself. I basically had 6 years wasted away along with all of my possessions, because of the actions of another person. Then, moved to another state to start over, 2 years later moved to another state to make more money. Then covid hit and lost my job. Had to move back to my home state, and have been stuck here since then. Got a gf about a year into living here, only to have her ruin my relationship with every family member and what few friends I had left. Also found out she was basically cheating on me the entire time as well. Totally heartless excuse for a human. Just now getting stable, with a decent job and just bought a truck. However i am now 33 and still have no career, no house, no wife and no kids. So, hopefully I can maintain this and figure something out... Sorry for the Ted talk, but hang in there 👊
Keep trying to dance the tool when you don’t realize your brain is trying to dance to tool. It’s telling you to sit down, close your eyes and put your head back.😂
Your comparison to fighting game music is not far from the mark to be honest. A lot of the most celebrated video game soundtracks are heavily inspired by progressive rock music, of which Tool has been one of the foremost innovators since the 90s. Fighting games especially draw a lot from progressive metal, which is just progressive rock with a bigger focus on extremes in the music.

Tool is the best music there is, they change your life if you really listen❤
When the beat dropped right before the guitar solo he was dancing so much like Maynard does!!!😂
That be the jambi drop... undefeated.

It’s his mom. He’d wish it all away to have one more day with her, because she passed away.
Spiral out, bro. Not a bad song in their entire catalog, and each song keeps getting better the more you hear it. Trust. 🤘

Adam Jones is using a voice box that produces that sound, with the guitar. There is a live video of this song and you can see him using it.
deeper you go TOOL you will be a head banger.

Thanks for subbing🔥! Glad You Enjoyed my Reaction I got a lot more coming.
Nailed it! Love and respect.

Been mostly a rocker since the 70's. Tool is still one of my faves. 😊
It's so much fun watching you onboard Tool. 😁

Maynard keeps it vague and doesn’t let people know, but the generally excepted narrative is that he’s talking about his son in this song.
Just wait until he gets to rosetta stone or right in two
I was played for 3 years by a girl and the song “Reflection” by Tool helped me grow out of it
Third eye live performance from 1998.

46&2 as well. It is about evolving past your insecurities, addictions and the ego. To become one with the flow of the universe.
Most fans seem to think he’s talking about how becoming a father changed his selfish views to caring more about this little child than about all his old self absorbed ways.
Yeah man, this banger makes me want to run through a wall too. Great reaction. 🤘🌀

Flow like your had-two-many uncle dancing at the summer BBQ. 🍸🤩
JAMBI!
TOOL Army forever❤❤❤❤
Be you, bro!
This guy needs to hear Parable/Parabola like stat. It’s his whole channels vibe
It’s an off beat yes, but it’s a journey. Don’t worry about having to catch the beat but just let yourself be taken. Great reaction
It's the emotional release. Not fight music
Bro, Tool is like the Mayweather of metal music ;)
Maynard's lyrics are purposely vague and left open to interpretation.

Love u doing Tool brah !! Gotta do Aenima next ‼️
🤘🏻🌀
Gotta react to Rage Against The Machine. Start off with Bomb Track. You'll love them, my friend.

Every song on every album is 🔥. You got a long fantastic ride ahead of you. You should check out Ænima and The Grudge and Hooker with a penis. 🔥🔥🤘🌀
Check out 46&2 or Right in two next
his mom
React to Vicarious when you can bro if you haven't already. Won't regret it.
please do ARCHSPIRE - “ GOLDEN MOUTH RUIN” or “DRONE CORPSE AVAITOR!!!!!!!!!
"This song is great, every time you listen to it you can pick a different beat to dance to...." LMAO!!!
I can deal with you saying "Bro". At least you aren't one of those guys that says, "Know what I'm saying?" every other sentence.
Pushit! Studio then, the live version. If you were in a toxic relationship, Pushit is the song for you.😢
😂❤
it's about the birth of his son Devo
This is for his Son …….
Also, it’s best to react after any Tool song, pausing it just takes away from the experience, and yes it’s an experience
BRO !! You paused Adam's guitar solo twice, wth man ?? lol
Try giving Alice In Chains - Would a listen. I think you will like it
If you had a relationship issue you have to do Tool Pushit
8:00 ..... NOOOOOOOOOO! WHAT ARE YOU DOING.... bruh!
Keep trying to dance the tool when you don’t realize your brain is trying to dance to tool. It’s telling you to sit down, close your eyes and put your head back.😂
they always pause right before the drop lol
Bro, your bros are OK bro.

Who’s got a spare Tool poster for his wall, yo? Anyone?
Sample.... heh
Well tag ….. you’re it. I have no idea what the story is about. Make it make sense….. idk.
Bro was doing the TRUMP at the solo end 😂
Edit 10:45
Would rather hear bro then …… N word
no sampling at all all played by 3 guys.
Tool makes your fav band sound mediocre… lol I can never listen to AC/DC again. Nope
