    I literally dragged my 23 year old son to see them in Tampa, Fl last year. On the drive over he told me that he wasn't a fan and that Tame Impala was the greatest band today. I laughed and told him you are about to have a life changing experience and you will forever remember it, He laughed. During The Grudge he gave me a big bear hug and said, Thank you for taking me and my eyes watered up. He is now a member of The Tool Army and it brings me great joy to hear Rosetta Stoned cranking out from his room and to hear his mom banging on the door telling him to lower it, good times.

      The cool thing is both Tool and Tame Impala are fantastic, and in totally different areas of music. Though at this point Tame Impala is like 99% Kevin Parker and Tool is actually a band in the sense that all the members contribute somewhat equally.

    Tool is the only band with a lead drummer with a rythem lyricist. Danny is the heart of the band and Maynard weaves his lyric melodies with his beats and as he puts it “chases the rhyme”. Maynard’s voice is viewed as an instrument that’s why he is mixed into the song not up front. The band and instruments are the cake and Maynard vocals are the licing on top. 😂

    • @johnnyginderskov6943
      @johnnyginderskov6943 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @Gideonite

      @@johnnyginderskov6943 he does it for two reasons, after years of standing in front of Danny, Maynard said in an interview he was going deaf and couldn’t hear his voice and pitch levels live. He likes standing in the shadows because it’s quieter and because like you said he isn’t the focus. Technically Danny is in the primary spotlight most shows.

    One of my sentimental favorites. This song is about the birth of his son Devo H Keenan (hint for a later song) and how it changed his life. My boys were young when this came out and I took them to their 1st concert (TOOL of course). They were 7 & 9. Now they're in their mid 20s. Always makes me think of them.

    I've been listening to TOOL since I was in 8th grade. I'm 38 now and Jambi being at the top 3 of my favorite TOOL songs and top 5 of maynard james keenan totality. I rarely listen to this one. The reasoning is my mother passed a few years ago. I didn't have the best relationship with her being a single mother. She worked all the time to afford normal things for my sister and I. Anywho, I'm sure many could imagine a tired parent getting hep c due to malpractice that couldnt be proved. I was 29 going through some things and went and stayed the night with her. She went from a strong woman to a sickly broken person that was aged way beyond her age. I had found TOOL music employed special tones that filled my spirit with something. I'm a practiced psychonaut and know myself deeply well enough to understand this. I've seen things no mortal eye could perceive and explain with stumbling words....but TOOL their music can....if that makes sense. So I'm falling asleep at my sick mothers listening to Jambi....kind of the mountain... Shiva whom has come to me in many forms Cernnunos and baphomet and as shiva Shakti looking like Adonis and Aphrodite as one.....that beings shows itself through this song.

    So Maynard’s original name was James Herbert Keenan. As he grow up he hated when people would call him Jimmy, when he was a kid only his mother called him Jimmy so he changed it. His stage name is pronounced “May-Nerd” James Keenan. Maynard was the name of a character from a book he liked as a kid. He made James his middle name out of respect of his mother.

    What you were referring to when Justin (the bassist) gradually plays louder is called dynamics in music. And he does use a pick. It gives it extra attack in the tone. Which attack is the other word you were looking for.

    I'm glad you are honing in on how Maynard approaches vocals. Not to derail your Tool journey (Tool Army unite!), but if you eventually get into A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, you'll notice the same. The reason he's such a prolific vocalist is that he approaches it as part of the composition. It's entirely a-traditional, and that's part of what makes Tool (and Maynard) so special. You should do some looking into their interviews about the writing process. Maynard said that he won't even attempt to craft lyrics or vocals for a song until Justin, Danny, and Adam have a completed product for him to work with. Fascinating stuff, eh?

    Lovin watching your face react to the greatness that is Tool. “Oh….oh come ON!” 😆 Yup… that’s pretty much all there is to say. Tool cannot be beat. By anybody. Four masters at work.

    Nailed it with the Maynard analysis. He puts down the vocal track after all instrumentals are completely. Its totally intentional. All 4 members are geniuses in their own way

  • @sean88gator
    @sean88gator ปีที่แล้ว

    Those tones that they get out of the bass and guitar are second to none. They use thick ass strings and use very experimental techniques. Nobody sounds like them and you add in MJK's genius poetry and the best damn drummer on the planet and you get TOOL. What a time to be alive.

    The only way I can describe Tool is this: It is a a forced astral journey. My body and soul separate in a dirty chunky journey. But at the end of it, I somehow come out cleaner and more alive than when I started.

    4:26 masters of their instruments, in control…they’re also unsatisfied with their music, as they keep trying to up their game with every song.

    I freakin love Jambi. Such a great song and grove. You reacation is great. With some songs, you go into the song. This is one of those songs.
    love your reaction. I love when "you" think it's going one way and it goes another, your reaction is awesome. And you nailed it. His voice is another
    instrument. And when Adam uses the Golden throat at about 9:09, that adds another layer. The bassist also uses a pedal as well.

    Hey bud!!! So glad you heard this one next!! When you heard vicarious I was like if you want to keep that same energy going Jambi needs to be next. Vicarious and Jambi are track one and two in the album. No lie, “the I want to cry part”, any long time tool fan will tell you that is what we all do and why we all listen to this band. The finished product is always so got damn amazing it just brings those feels of just pure euphoric badassness. Lol. When you see them live you’re always left in happy tears. These guys just know the vibrations we need in our lives. Simple as that. One thing I would recommend is start from the beginning and work your way towards the later albums. You can really see their beautiful evolution through the years. Also you can’t beat a young and rambunctious Maynard, Danny, and Adam. The bassist changed. Their first was Paul D’amor. He was there in their first two albums and then that’s when Justin chancellor came in and the rest was history. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 All you have heard up until now is Justin chancellor. Can’t wait to hear what you think of Paul. They both make you want to pick up a bass.

    So, there's this trilogy book series called
    Licanius by Australian writer James Islington. In it, there's a character named
    Tal'kamar, and I'm telling you this song, Jambi, is his anthem.
    It gives me chills how well the two fit together in lyrics and mood.
    One of my favorite bands of all time and one of my favorite book series of all time.
    Just add coffee and imagination.
