Thank you for saying to let them have their emotions. It's okay to cry and there's no need to make it better. Let them work through it and de-escalate.
We are incoming kindergarteners and I much appreciate these handy tips! I'd highlight the labeling feelings part - thanks so much for going into practical tips on those!
Always encouraging to hear kids will start school at varying levels of education and that’s ok. My son has gone to a daycare/school since 8 months old (in-home before that), and they have had a “curriculum” and schedule for them since birth basically. They started self help skills between 2-3, setting their place for meals, dumping their trays, washing hands, etc. Super helpful! But I know kids that have stayed at home won’t have that same skill down yet. So it’s encouraging for other parents I think to know Kindergarten is a mixed bag 👍 thanks for the video!
Thank you for this video. Based on your experience, do you think it's better for children to start in senior or junior kindergarten? My son will be 3 years and 11 months this sep.
Hi Veronica! The schools take the safety of the children very seriously, but how exactly that looks may be different from one school to the next. I'm sure if you reach out to the school directly with your questions, they will get back to you. Most schools provide an email address to their admin team right on the school website. I hope your grandson has a wonderful first year!

Best of luck to your littles! Don't forget to have the tissue box handy (for you that is 😉)
