Thanks for watching today's video! How are you feeling about your little one starting daycare/school?

I was looking for a video like this. Glad I found it. My 3yr old started preK this fall, and while it's only Day 6, I don't feel like it's going well. She's not happy or excited and prior to this, her personality has always been these things. She's been in daycare (private home setting) since 7mo old and she had no issues. Always a ray of sunshine. Now we're in the big leagues! Real school! And I fear she's not adjusting. Of course this makes me cry as a mom.

Thank you for sharing all this valuable information! I teach PreK and was looking for videos to share with our parents to help them out. Thank you Dr. Jazmine!

We’ve started pre-school and did our best to plant the seed, however, I’m not sure our ‘plant’ was flourishing before we started school … can you do a video on trouble shooting the starting weeks of pre-school, navigating the transition once it’s started?? Ideas on how to help them work through the drop-off meltdowns, the big feelings of not wanting to go? Fostering an excitement, or even just neutral response to going to school? Thanks a million for these videos, they are incredibly helpful!

My son 2 years old just started day care today. He said he is scared and started crying when we were leaving. We did all the steps you mentioned before we dropped him off. We gave him a hug when we were leaving. We are worried about affecting his psychology and attachment.

I am ‘Nana’… my 3 yr old grandson’s primary care giver ever since Mom went back to work after his birth. Our routine has always been that mom drops him off at Nana’s house in the morning and she picks him up after work.
I’m assuming if he goes to preschool, mom will drop him off there and I will pick him up after lunch (if 1/2 day) or later (if full day). It is a Huge change for all of us! Somehow when I sent his dad to preschool 27 yrs ago it felt easier… as his mom it felt like the normal progression of life that I was introducing to him.
Now, with my grandson, I feel heartbroken. I feel it is time to hold him closer because time goes so fast. I’m so afraid he will think Nana does not want him anymore. I can’t think of anything worse. How does a ‘nana’ help prepare her grandson and HERSELF!

Hello and thank you so much for this information, it was very insightful. I’m a roll coaster of emotions. One moment I’m excited.. then I’m sad.. then I have mom guilt.. then there is anxiety because of Covid so I’m just trying to stay prayed up and trust in God! My son is 21 months. When he and I went for a tour of the daycare, he wanted to interact with the kids. He was giving them hugs and trying to share toys with them, so it will be interesting to see what he does on the first day of school. I took notes and will be implementing this tomorrow. I have be planting some small seeds and will continue to plant more. I would love videos on how to teach toddlers life skills. Thank you again!

Great video! How do you prepare defiant toddlers for school? My 3 year old son sometimes likes to ask for help pulling up his pants even though he knows how. Or when he asks for help he’ll say that he wants to do it, which I let him. It’s hard for him to follow instructions. When we took him to a soccer program we noticed that he did not want to follow directions even if he was the only kid doing his own thing. Any ideas on how to combat defiance and babying? 😅

Yeah, This convo seems to be for a 3 or 4 year olds. Not 14 months old too many words and info to process. Do you have advice more for young toddlers?
