Shit, that's a pretty good point actually.
Sonic 06 wouldn't even be so bad if it was more playable. I think this is why people have kept it alive.
06 has great level design. The problem is everything else including an engine that makes those levels unplayable.
In my opinion,Sonic 06 could have been good game worthy of the title it was originally given, just given more time,not having a split staff,not having a certain bad cutscene I refuse to mention, better voice acting,and the glitches being patched and Sonic 06 could become a game worthy of being a sonic Adventure like game. Who knows,maybe SEGA could give it another shot someday and actually remaster the game with my ideas in mind,though the damage has already been done so,probably for the best that Sonic 06 stays as it is.
The content in 06 is actually great, the game engine and the story are trash.
Everyone hates Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 06 for good reasons but acknowlege the potential and good things from the games, that's why there's so many mods around 06 and some from Shadow's, the potential it's just to great the let 'em rot.

@Elijah Taylor I saw some gameplay footage of it (if that's the one you mean, I think it starts with Sonic running on a busy highway and chasing a car or something), and it looked good enough, but that's still just a fan project. I'd like an official Sonic Team remake.
I do think he has a point. Maybe remake it in a similar way to how Grezzo remade Link's Awakening on the switch - take the assets that worked, reimplement them, and then repair what didn't by building it back up from scratch.

Yeah 😅 so there is a PC port but it's not on steam and it barely works on Windows 10
Like he said, the other Sonic games on PC don't have very big modding communities, and I would imagine Heroes' is among the smallest because while a PC version does exist, since the game never got the remaster treatment to my knowledge (it was only rereleased on PS3 in Asia, I assume as a PS2 classic, which are just emulated PS2 games with no real remastering a la the Virtual Console), it was never released on Steam, and might need extra steps to work on a modern PC, which would no doubt turn a lot of people off from that version when the other versions are a lot easier and they most likely already had a console that could play those versions (if not the original consoles, which is especially likely for the GameCube and Xbox, then through their immediate successors). I know about a widescreen mod for that version, but that's about it.

@@TheMGMfan I do have a disc version of heroes and it's genuinely a massive job to make it functional on Windows 10. I remember my first attempt to fix it lead to me accidentally corrupting the textures but yeah it's better just to buy a wii with gamecube support and a copy of the game for gamecube. The PC version isn't the best experience what with the minimal input options

There are a few major obstacles we have to figure out before we can really get SA2 mods up to the standard of SADX mods. We're working on it though, the Emerald Coast port is only the beginning.
You give me some hope, I play SA2 a lot even these days and I really hope that one day there would be sick mods, it really deserve it

The Sonic modding community deserves more respect, the amount of stuff they make is ridiculous. And is better quality than SEGA themselves sometimes.
Not to mention some of the fan games out there.
And also that SEGA encourages this kind of stuff, unlike Nintendo or even Square Enix with the Chrono-related things. I mean, Sonic Mania was technically made by a group of fans who loved the blue boi so much
Yeah but that's like saying you run faster than a man in a wheelchair. It's true, but it's not a high bar. They got desperate enough to pay romhackers to make a new Sonic game and then when everyone agreed it's the best Sonic game since the Genesis they decided to not have them make a sequel. That's an incredible combination of desperate (our professionals can't do what a group that started as modders) and stupid (torpedoing what could have made them ludicrous money). It's somehow more embarrassing to the IP holder than Black Mesa being the best Half-Life game, because Valve hasn't actually tried in a decade but Sega tried and failed.

Sonic Aventure 2 also has the Chao World Extended mod, which adds an incredible amount to the Chao Garden, as well as Sonic Adventure 2: The New Challengers, which allows you to select which version of a character you'd like to play. For example, you can play any Sonic level as Shadow, or as Amy or Metal Sonic. You can play any Tails level as Tails, Eggman, or either of the Chao Walkers, etc.

Well, if you count ripping the models, Source Filmmaker has EVERY franchise with 3D models covered. And even some that never had any, because the Venn Diagram of people that can rip 3D models and port them to Source and people that get laid have more space between them than the Sun and Pluto.

SA2 also has cool Randomizer mod which random the entire game: voice clips, levels, characters in levels, cutscenes. And surprisingly, it's all made in way that you can actually beat the game with that thing. Another unique game experience I would say!
P.S.: Cutscenes with random clips are extremely fun to watch.

It was good. I actually enjoyed the Randomized of Adventure 2 way more than the actual game itself.

Thank you for explaining why 13-year-old me in 2003 was always baffled that the GameCube version of SA1 somehow looked worse than the Dreamcast version from five years prior. The lighting, textures, and colors are all so much nicer in the original.
Since that video was released, the SA2 modding community made tremendous progress and there are tons of new awesome mods to check out.

I think the issue with SA2 mods is the lack of a previous PC version before Steam
The 2003 port of Sonic Adventure had pretty accessible folders and has had years of work done to edit them. Adventure 2 is almost there but the engine modifications between the two is like genuine hell.

Edit: I watched the video and it was really great, I didn't even know about Crisis City in Sonic Adventure, and I thought I was up to date on SADX mods. The only real omission in this video was the Sonic Adventure 2 Randomizer, it's probably the best mod SA2 has, but it's kinda new so I can see how you could miss it.

I'm a small bit surprised there was no mention of Overpowered Sonic 2.0 or Super Mystic Sonic for Generations simply because of how completely broken and fun they are.

The water palace stage mod is probably one of the most grand and horrifying things I have ever seen in a game like imagine being there it would be so surreal yet scary it's just a large man made body of water with giant towering buildings

It’s been 4 months but there’s also mods for SA2 that let you play as the Prototype versions of Shadow/Sonic. For example Sonic wears his classic shoes, shadow looks like a mix between Sonic and Mighty the Armadillo and you can play as Hyper/Super Sonic/Shadow. But more importantly one of the most recent mods allows for Boosting in SA2. Which means we have finally broken the barrier of SA2 and eventually will be including other cool mechanic mods. That being said the only revamped stage mods are Radical Highway, White Jungle, and a port of Seaside Hill in SA2. As for new unfinished mods there’s a full fledged Scourge over Sonic mod in the works and Shadow doesn’t reference Sonic in his cutscenes, like I said though it’s unfinished
Man, looking at this now it makes the SA2 section seem so barren. There have been huge developments in the scene since then and there's so much more to explore.
Review Sonic P-06 (A Sonic 06 Remake). It has WAY better controls and silver is actually fun to play! its not finished but they are working on it constantly and I think that they need more support and recognition!
We need to make AntDude play Knuckles mania and Knuckles. It’s the perfect mod for a almost perfect game.
You missed probably the most major mod for SA2. It almost completely overhauled the Chao Garden and bring it to its full potential. This is to the point where it feels like it’s own separate game.
Whenever I see Knuckles in Amy's dress, I imagine him yanking it up and shouting "LOOK WHAT I'VE GOT UNDER ME KILT!!!!!"
WTH (ant)dude, Sonic 06 is my top 1 remake of all time.
To me remakes are opportunities to fix and make really cool stuff with cool ideas/concepts with bad execution.
