    Tom I’ve been like an expecting father waiting for this and it didn’t disappoint…well done mate very clear and easy to follow ! Also I’ve been making hard work of my stop knots and your way is a lot easier …total legend 👏👏

      Ha ha! I very nearly mentioned you in the video... your timely reminders (I'm loathe to use the word 'nagging'!) were very much appreciated, without them I'm sure you'd still be waiting!
      Glad it helped anyway, good luck with those stop knots!

    I would like to see some more close-up views. Thanks. We dont have all those fittings but I'm sure if we can see what they look like, we can substitute something to make it work.

    I love this rig, Ian was a bit of a hero of mine.
    This is one of those rigs where power gum beats crimps every time 😂

      Absolutely mate, it's a brilliant rig from a brilliant man. I admired him greatly when I was a youngster and loved fishing and chatting with him as I got older. He deeply missed, but his name will live on forever I'm sure.
      Yes, deffo a stopknot rig!

    Again, thinking outside the box. I always saw the loop rig as a Matchman's tool for gaining some extra yardage, but now I can fish my usual Pennell for rays and have an extra hook up top - Genius. An idea if I may. The cascade swivel, has nobody yet fashioned one with conventional loops top and bottom, as opposed to having one elongated loop? This would aid the Bagnall bar also wouldn't it? Just a thought.

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! It would! I shall look into this! I'm sure enough people use the loop rig and bar rig for there to be a market for it.

    Many thanks Tom for making this video, probably the best one I’ve seen for this particular rig. When I tie this rig I also use a 3” length of silicon tubing to go over the top snood swivel eye to help lift the snood away from the rig body and avoid tangles. Have you used this adaption too?

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Bill. I have dabbled with silicone like this in the past, but to be honest, I prefer to keep things as minimalistic as possible. Glad you liked the video, thanks for watching 😀

    Brilliant rig Tom, could you use it in an estuary crammed with crabs by popping them up with pop up floats

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You could, although how far do you need to cast? I wonder if a simple flapper might do the job just as well, and easier to tie? But if distance helps, then yes, give this a go.

    hi tom, newbie here. firstly great tutorials. really easy to follow with simple explanations.. 1 question. instead of using 2 stop knots can I just use 1 but put 8 turns on it instead of 4? ... or am i just being lazy?! thanks in advance!

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi mate. Thanks for watching.
      II honestly don't know the answer to that, because I've never tried a stop knot with that many turns. I'll have to experiment! My gut feeling is that the two stops will be better, I feel they kind of lock against each other. I wonder if an 8 turn knot would end being a bit of a bulky knot?

    Nice vid .
    What is the thinking behind using a circle hook on the pennel which helps to stop deep hooking, to then add a J hook?

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a very good question! I find the vast majority of my fish are hooked on the circle still, despite the j hook being there. Fish that are caught on the j have tended not to take the bait deep, so have been lip hooked too. Of course, as with all fishing, the occasional deep hooked fish will occur, but it really is only very occasional. The better way to fish this would actually be to use a dongle below the circle, rather than the j. Perhaps I should do a video showing that too.
      Thank you for watching and commenting.

    I love all your vids tom! But do u recommend a Sequin and stock knot above your ;Bait on this rig if your using singel hooks

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi mate. Yes, definitely! On this rig I'm using a bit stop on the top snood, but not on the bottom snood as I'm using the pennel setup. However, I'd you're not using the pennel, then definitely use a bait stop on the bottom snood too.

    Hi Tom, could you please come up with a rig to combat crabs, they’re my nemesis. I know velvets will get your bait but I’m racking my brain trying to figure out a rig to beat that. I’m fishing for Gilthead Bream and Smoothounds and bass. I reckon it’s normal crabs and spiders crabs. Cheers Dan

    Sorry Tom quick question any reason you used a swivel on the top of the rig body v normal clip I tend to have a swivel on my shock leader

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No real reason matey. I usually have it the other way around on my lighter beach setups, as the longer, lighter snoods easily catch in the clip when it's on the end of your leader, so you are doing the correct thing. However, with heavier snoods like this, it's less relevant, and as the majority of people do it this way around I thought I'd do the demo this way around. In all honestly it's going to make no real difference which way around you do it, so by all means stick with what you're used to. I hope that makes sense.
