The EK7000 series have a regular version, a PLUS version and a PRO. Based on pricing and common sense - the Pro is the top end solution, and it is time to have a detailed look at its capabilities.
It is very important to say - that this is NOT a true 4K camera, and big part of the footage you will see is recorded in Full HD as in my opinion it is the best to be seen. And also - is the only resolution that supports image stabilization.
I have always recommended Akaso as a good budget brand to choose - their cameras are well built, have excellent accessories and performance is fine. The communication with their support teams is considerably better than many other brands. There’s nothing innovative about their models, and that’s the point - to give you as much as possible for the price you pay.
To better understand the characteristics and adjust the expectations from the performance - let’s have a closer look at the hardware. Main marketing point is the touch screen. There’s an outdated Sunplus chipset, which at least is doing a good job with 1080P. The sensor is OV4689CD, which is a 4-Megapixel sensor. Neither the processor nor the sensor can support real 4K resolution, so we can easily conclude that the footage that is marked as “4K” is interpolated. Not only that, but it is encoded as M-JPEG.
M-jpeg is a is a video compression format in which each video frame or interlaced field of a digital video sequence is compressed separately as a JPEG image. And it sometimes looks rather bad, however in bright conditions the output may be even better than 1080p.
Battery performance is … nothing exceptional - around 30 minutes of mixed usage, sometimes up to an hour if the screen is not used too often.
The menus won’t give you many options for correction - the most significant setting is the exposure adjustment. There are a few software filters, which I bet no one will really use. Time Lapse photos and videos feature is available. I has some struggles with the video lapse, but the photo lapse was just fine.
Speaking of the menus - I have to say a few good words about the navigation - because of the touch screen, switching between different modes is quite easy, and there also is the possibility to adjust the menus via the hardware buttons - and that’s something many of us will highly appreciate.
If you like the idea of controlling the Akaso EK7000 Pro remotely - one more useful accessory to help - a wireless remote. The best part is that it doesn’t need any menu to be enabled - just keep it withing a few meters and the connection will work. Maybe the simplest kind of connection to a remote for an action camera.
What can we say about the footage. Not too bad. But not too good either. Maybe slightly below the expectations from a 70-bucks action cam called PRO in early 2019.
Shoots good at 1080P, the recorded sound quality is also good, has a touch screen, convenient grouping of the menus, remote, smartphone app and bunch of accessories
To mention the biggest disadvantaces - it is NOT a true 4K action cam, EIS only in 1080p and slow motion looks quite bad at 720p. Which means that the most significant reasons to buy it are the price and the 1080p capabilities.

I don't understand why guys don't talk about a very important part about whether it supports external mic or not. Dude is giving a full in depth review and doesn't talk anything about it.
Here's the reason: MicroUSB means NO external microphone. If it was having TypeC/Mini USB - then it was about to be a different story.

How's the sound quality on the v50 pro?
fantastic videos! would you advise to wait for abit to see what other companys have installed for action cameras e.g sony. Currently interested in the SJ8 pro(250aud) or else will go for a hero 7 black

Sony cameras are usually a bit more expensive. The SJ8 Pro is a very good choice if you happen to get a properly working one. I have had two of them - one that used to freeze a lot, and one that is simply excellent.
Hero 7 Black is awesome, but I know it is far too expensive in Australia.

Trying to see if this is compatible with a particular clamp mount I'm looking to purchase. Mount has a ¼ screw to screw devices onto. Does this camera have the ¼ thread to screw into the mount? Thanks

Just got mine to hook up to my yolotek mount for when i go fishing. Curious to see if the 4k or 1080 p will be better. Almost seems like 1080 p looks better

You can get one hour if you don't use the screen for too long.

Hm, sounds like a codec issue - try with a different player. VLC and POT player are both great at that.
If it is in the waterproof case sadly there is no sound

Oh, this is nasty. Check the menus in the video and try to reach the language settings.
how do you get it off the little stand it comes mounted on? And how do you get videos off the SD card and onto your computer?
You just follow the instructions and it easily pops out. As for the microSD - you can get a microSD to USB connector and simply copy the files. Or connect the camera with USB cable directly.
I have the EK7000 is there any way to stay online while connected to the cameras wifi? Or can't you stream using this?
There is no way to stream with it, unfortunately...

Yeah, you will be. If the mask has a dedicated place for mounting; Or you can get a head-mount.

I can't remember seeing a menu to turn image upside down - so mist like you will have to do that, yes.
Does it come with a suction cup window mount or at least some thing to put in the window in an airplane
Only adhesive - which is hard to remove.
You may order a suction mount separately.

I think the manufacturer imposes too much sharpness. There was a problem where the edges of the image were so stiff that they were almost borderline. especially when photographing trees and leaves. will get a picture that doesn't look pretty If a firmware can be released to fix the problem, that's great, everything else is acceptable.
I don't think they will add any firmware updates to this model and generally - this is probably the best that could be squeezed out of this setup. You may try cropping the photos.

You can always use an external power bank in order to recharge while you are filming.
You never showed how to use all the extra pieces! I have zero clue.
I used a QR reader to access the Manual but the Manual won't open. The camera arrived literally glued to the top of the inner box. Trying to pry it apart OMG!!!

The 4K resolution is not related to the size of the card, unless your card is too slow.
What's the battery life like? Maybe you said it, but I didn't hear anything about it.
Should last between 30 and 60 minutes depending on resolution, amount of clips, screen on time, etc.
5:38 - Ew that image stabilization looks awful. Today, it's all about image stabilization.
I want a very cheap action camera that does awesome image stabilization at only average TH-cam video quality... 1080 being the highest.
It is hard to get a very cheap camera doing this. But perhaps you may check the Seabird camera by Xiaomi.
The go pro is to expensive thinking to get this is this ok for water ?
Try finding a second-hand Hero 7 or 8. Or DJI Action 1.
Still - this one is OK for filming underwater if you use it with a case.

I received one of these the other day. I wanted to use it as a dash cam for my jeep and for cycling. Picture quality is poor, can't make out licence plate numbers. The battery and camera get really warm when recording, not sure what that is about. Can't be good for the battery. I'm sorry I bought it.
Some cameras have a component that interrupts the charging to the battery when they are used as dashcam.
A few recommendations that will improve your picture: avoid using 60fps. Better shoot at 1080p 30fps, and make sure image stabilization is disabled. Most likely the results will be significantly better that way.

For mountain biking, I'd recommend saving some more bucks and getting DJI Osmo Action - right now at really good prices.

True that - good quality; As for footage editing - depends on how much patience you have :-) Bitrate is good, so you can improve the image a little.

Believe it or not, couple of minutes ago I was wondering whether I should release the video or not. :-) Right now it is scheduled to be published on 8th of February - I just want to give the device a little more time and hope DJI will release a few important upgrades of the firmware. Hey Thomas - they are two very different cameras. I know many people will compare them (I will do as well), however they are different categories. Think about how you will use them - being more walking oriented - the Osmo pocket is fine, but when it comes to sports - it is barely usable :\

They perform very similarly. I like the modes a little better with this one.
In the last week I have been testing two more cameras (reviews are still in progress) - Xiaomi Seabird - excellent; and the Apeman Trawo - also excellent. They are both very good alternatives.

Great video, i am currently looking some of your action cam reviews...take quite a bit of time :) really like your style ! I would like your advise as i will buy my first action cam, i will mostly use it for pictures and some videos ( under water videos). ideally i would like it to be user friendly (touch screen), including image stabilisation, very good picture/video quality. I first wanted to buy a Eken H5s Plus cam, as I have a limited budget, but i am not sure i would take the right decision. Could you suggest me what would be the best camera to buy? I am based in Romania, so i know prices might be higher due to taxes and import but let's say around 150 USD i am fine. Thanks a lot.
Hi Cristophe, and thanks a lot for your questions. Overall - most action cameras are not that great in taking photos - it will requite a lot of patience and some post-processing...
Right now you can get the Yi 4K at the price of 135EUR from the German Amazon - and this model gets discounted often, because it is a bit older, however is an excellent option!
Also, I believe the latest batches of SJ8 Pro are also quite good - much newer hardware and well capable.
Being tighter on a budget - the Akaso V50 Pro.
If you are wondering about the quality of picture, at least in my opinion - SJ8 Pro > Yi 4K > Akaso V50 Pro. But - you will likely notice that differences are not too many.
As for Eken - I know they have a lot of fans, but I am not one of them. The quality control there seems to be poor, and often they have a few versions of each model containing slightly different hardware. And their firmware is often limiting some of the features. But - from all of their cameras, the H5s Plus is quite good.

Great review! Keep debating between cameras. $60 right now on Amazon is tempting, but I know the V50 Pro/Elite and Brave 6 are considerably better.
Every action cam I looks at seem to be severely lacking in one area I really need. Stabilization, color, adjustable angle, audio. 1080p is fine, but those are what I need most.
For example the stabilization here is alright, but not the best. Better than others that introduce wobble at the edges. Color and audio are both just meh though. Ugh!
The Crosstour CT9500 and Apeman E100 Trawo are both also tempting. Have any suggestions for me? I shouldn't fret over $10-20 for a much better camera, but paying over $100 instead of $60 is certainly a leap.
I am not a great fan of the EK7000 and overall I avoid cameras that have interpolated 4K.
I liked a lot the Mijia 4K, the Yi 4K lite is also good. The Seabird is also nice.
Some people are not happy with the sharpness of the Akaso V50 Pro, keep that in mind.
If I had to pick a camera for less than $100 - maybe I've enjoyed the mijia 4K most, but that is a personal opinion and you may like something else more.

Got this camera recently, and I have to say the footage is terrible. Extremely grainy and just over all dwarfed by my gen 1 GoPro. It distorts colors in low to medium light conditions into orange hues. Overall this is a product you should avoid.
