Schlage Encode won't connect to Wifi

  • This is how to correct a connection issue if your Schlage Encode WiFi smart deadbolt won't recognize your Wifi if you have both 5G and 2G networks on your wifi router. Basically have to forget both 5G and 2G networks in your cell phone, run a factory reset on your Schlage Encode, and only add back the WiFi network on your phone settings that you want the Schlage to operate off of. And then run a full initial setup of your Schlage Encode lock. In my case I wanted it to run off the 2G network.
8/16/21 update: this lock unit has gone through its first set of 4 AA batteries and even with recent thunderstorms that knocked out wifi connections, this Schlage encode has been fantastic in functionality with decent battery life. Thumbs up on this product.
7/19/24 Update: the lock unit just failed last week. When it stopped working, I swapped out two different sets of fresh batteries, cleaned the battery connections, and even inspected for moisture or other visible damage. Absolutely DOA. Was surprised that the lock failed after about 3 years of use. Am going with a non-WiFi enabled Kwikset Powerbolt 250 for $$67.

Yep. This worked for me, too. … My lock suddenly disconnected from WiFi 3 weeks ago for no apparent reason, and I tried everything to get it to reconnect - but using the correct WiFi System Name and the correct WiFi password to try to reconnect to WiFi would not work. … I tried calling customer service at Schlage 8 times, and waited at least an hour each time, and was never put through to a representative. … Finally, I found this TH-cam, and it solved the problem. I was re-connected and re-programmed in about 15 minutes. (Note: Not only do you have to “forget” your WiFi system before re-setting the lock, but you also have to remember to “delete the lock” off of your app before re-setting also - as well as remembering to re-connect your *phone* to your WiFi system (after re-setting the lock) before you will be able to re-connect your *lock* to your WiFi system. THANKS FOR THIS FIX!! YOU ARE A SAINT!!

This is insane, like truly incomprehensible that the problem is the iPhone simply having the 5 GHz network under “My Networks.” It’s not connected, it’s not the same SSID, and yet over 10 hours of troubleshooting and Schlage even sending a replacement lock that had the same issue, your solution solved the problem. So now I have a free lock, but I’d rather have my time back. Confusingly, the first lock setup just fine, but six months in spuriously disconnected and wouldn’t reconnect (around the time everyone’s Schlage locks went down), hence the warranty replacement. I think the bungled the app and/or WiFi firmware, but the fact that this bug is still here…I’m just baffled, frustrated, mad, but glad to have FINALLY fixed my stupid lock.

I kept trying to update the WiFi. But I had to do a factory reset, and connect to the WiFi in the initial insulation settings.
Don't skip it and try to connect later, if you do that, write down all the settings and codes you've assigned, then factory reset and connect WiFi in the beginning.
It was a 5 minute process to factory reset, connect WiFi, and program all my settings and assigned personal codes. 👍

Also, people can have issues because a lot home routers also use SON technology means self organizing network. This means that your 2.4G band and 5G band both share the same network name (SSID). To fix this issue in the router settings, you will need give both 2.4 and 5G bands separate names. Example John'swifi and John'swifi5G. This connectivity configuration will help with other devices that are having connectivity issues as well so that they do not jump back and forth between 2.4G to 5G.

I tried adding the one that I am always on in my house and it will not connect and I even tried connecting the original modems name and it still won’t connect. I did a factory reset on the Schlage and it didn’t work. I removed the Network that I’m connected to on my Wi-Fi but for some reason it won’t let me remove the original modems name.
