This video is great! It has helped me narrow down the Encode over the Sense. Especially because of the ANSI rating. The only question left is, "Do you recommend the Encode over the Connect & Z-Wave?"
I do recommend the encode yes. It’s Grade 1 ANSI/BHMA and the connect is Grade 2. If you have certain things that you need the Z wave technology so go with the Schlage Connect otherwise if you just need to remote control the lock using your smart phone and get push notifications when the door opens and locked so go with Encode because it’s all in one smart lock and also it’s the only one that integrate and work with the ring video doorbell.

@@S.E.Locksmith Are you certain about this information? The Schlage web site, under Specifications, says that the Connect is "Commercial Standard Certification:ANSI/BHMA A156.36-2010 Grade 1". Also, the Encode will only integrate with Ring via the Amazon Key app. The Connect will integrate with Ring *directly* using Z-Wave via their Alarm hub.
Based upon what is on Schlage's web site, they are both Grade 1, and it is the Connect that will integrate directly with Ring, while the Encode needs the Amazon Key app as an intermediary.
I do appreciate the suggestion for the cylinder replacement.

Yes you definitely can... but it all depends on the lock cylinder type that you want to go with ?
My experience with Schlage. About 9 years ago bought Schlage BE365 9v battery was changed only 3 times since then!!! Great lock and still works. A week ago decided to experiment with ‘smart’ lock - Schlage Connect BE469ZP (was on sale on Amazon for $130). Horrible. Returned today. It is crazy loud when locking and unlocking. Can hear it in the most remote rooms in 2 story 3400 sq ft house. Checked reviews after the fact on Amazon for ‘loud’ - tons of complaints. Called Schlage customer service - they know about it. Their ‘solution’ of course is to buy the newest lock Sense or Encode. These are WiFi locks & i need to integrate with z-wave on Ring alarm and Vera Edge. Plus Schlage suddenly decided that brass is not ‘modern’ enough - all hardware on my door is brass and I was not planning to upgrade to a different color.
In my Florida condo I have Schlage FE599 purchased also about 8 years ago. Still works. But batteries drain in about 8 to 10 month.
If you can do a review on loudness of smart locks, battery power time length and reliability that would be great. Toda raba!
Your videos are great. I am on an Homeowners Association Board. We have a Rec Center that gets used a couple of times a month. And we do have some vendors that come in the Rec Center to do repairs, cleaning, etc. It looks like the Schlege Encode would be a great way to provide access without homeowners and vendors having to go to the Property Manage office about five miles away to get a key. Do you see any problem with having 4 doors at the Rec Center using this type of wireless lock? Are they uniquely identified to allow for remote management of the locks?
You can set the Schlage Encode Smart Wi-Fi Deadbolts each with he’s own door name so that way you’ll be able to control each one remotely.

From what you just described it will work good for you.
By the way make sure that the bottom handle/knob will have no key so the people with access will use only the electronic deadbolt to get in n out. Use my link in my video description for the best price on the Schlage Encode
Hi, thank you very much for your videos! I just discovered you today. I have one question which applies to each lock: if the key is used, does the lock notify the app, or is it only the keypad that triggers entry/exit (bolt movement) notifications?
Yes both locks will send you push notifications when you unlock them using the key as well

It is important to note that since this video has come out, the Schlage Sense now has a "bigger brother" named the Schlage Connect and it is also manufactured to the same Grade 1 specifications as the Schlage Encode. The Sense is still Grade 2.
Schlage connect is the first version of smart locks by Schlage few years back and from what I know so far it’s only Grade 2 not Grade 1 like Schlage Encode

The MT5+ with international keyway is the highest security level cylinder by Mul-T-Lock and I definitely recommend it. Replacing and old Schlage Connect (Nexia) but need Apple HomeKit compatibility so only Schlage Sense.
Yes for new it’s the only option unless you’ll compromise and use Google Assistant that use voice etc.

I have #3 Schlage Encodes and I wanted to change the cylinder to the recommended Mul-T-Lock (link you provided says only 1 left) but I wanted to change the #3 cylinders to the upgraded cylinder with identical keys. i found the Multlock junior high quality cylinder (like the one in my video) its on sale right now, but its not comes with the same key so you'll need to find a local locksmith that can rekey them for you: amzn.to/2yVaecX

Can the Schlage Encode be re-keyed match the key to the rest of external doors in my house? If you use a Multi Lock, can you re-key the rest of the external doors to utilize the Multi Lock key?
If you want to use the Mul-T-Lock key for the Schlage Encode so for the rest of your locks in the house you’ll have to change them as well to have the possibility to match the Mul-T-Lock key and it’s also true if you want to use the regular Schlage key of the Schlage Encode to match The other locks in your house... meaning that all the other locks that you have should have Schlage Keyway or SC1 keyway in the Locksmith Dictionary.

I bought this lock after watching your video. My schlage Encode and Amazon Key does not work anymore. Tried to connect it but it is always said, "Account Already Linked. This Schlage account is currently in use by a different Amazon account. Please check the account and try again." I cannot proceed after this step. Please help.

It’s a difficult question to answer to be honest.

Can the cylinder be changed in a Shlage door handle? Then I would have the same key in the Encode and the door handle if I choose to lock both or accidently locked the door handle. What is the typical cost to change a cylinder?
No it cannot. Schlage levers or Schlage knobs use a unique cylinder that cannot be change with High Security Cylinders. Only the Deadbolts or the smart locks can have this option.
If you have the Schlage Encode so buy a bottom lever with a passage function (no key both sides) that way you will have only the Schlage Encode your main lock with the High Security Key Cylinder and the lever only to latch the door.
It’s a little bit less secure because the bottom handle/lever will not have a key
But if you do have the high security cylinder and a good reinforcement for the door in general you are good to go.

The smart sense auto close operates but front screen doesnt eliminate and code pad doesn't work when entry numbers are pressed. How can i troubleshoot?
This is something that require reset to factory settings. If that doesn’t help try to contact Schlage customer support
Ok so the sense seems like a rip off. Not even a consideration for me. I can't decide weather the encode or connect would be better. I already have a smartthings hub and all my smart home devices are mostly z wave but a few are zigby. I'm wanting a lock I can add and remove codes remotely, add into routines and be able to lock and unlock with smartthings app. I'm leaning to the connect but what would you recommend? I had a Kwikset for about a year but it just stopped connect to the hub then eventually went dead completely. I really liked being able to key it to my existing key though. Is this brand better than Kwikset?

I worked in a commercial building as security that also housed a fleet bank at the time and every lock in the building was Schlage so I’d highly recommend the Schlage brand.
With the Schlage Encode, can you program it to self lock the deadbolt at 6pm each day and self unlock at 9am each day (M-F) ? Would you need some controller? I know how to do this with the Schlage Connect and Z-Wave, but looking for a WiFi solution (controller-less solution).

Unfortunately the Schlage Encode won’t have this scheduling options available, only auto lock after certain amount of time.
Only the Schlage Connect with the Z-wave does have this options.

As of right now the Schlage Encode doesn’t work with Apple HomeKit, The only other one that work with HomeKit is the Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt.
You can still use google assistant or Amazon Alexa with voice commend to open the door with both smart locks.

I don’t think the encode version will be HomeKit compatible but hopefully the next Schlage smart lock version will be

What is the battery life difference between the encode and sense? I would assume without built in wifi, the sense batteries last a lot longer.
It’s about the same.
Regardless I always recommend to replace batteries every 6-8 months
@@S.E.Locksmith OK thanks. I see plenty of Amazon reviews with users complaining of only a month. I plan to put this on a vacation home and there will be times no one is there for three months and I cannot have the batteries going dead in that timeframe.
So if you concerning about that just go with the Schlage Sense and buy the WiFi Adepter as well
That was the original reason for my question, wondering if the sense had a longer battery life but you said they were about the same. If that were the case then why not buy the lock with built in WiFi.
So my answer to this split to 2:
1) Because I have the Schlage Sense in one of my doors and combined with the WiFi Adapter and I change the batteries every 8 months and also install it for a lot of my customers and it’s works great.
2) the Schlage Encode is also Great but less time in the market compare to the sense... overall no one of my customers complain about the batteries life so I cannot say 100% that it’s not possible that the encode batteries life is less.
It’s really comes down to what function you need from the smart lock because they are different in some areas etc.
My recommendation if you want to be on the safe side is to go with the sense otherwise the encode because it’s newer version and have very cool integrations etc

I had the encode but I also have the Orbi mesh router and while it would connect to the router it wasn't reliable. About half the time alexa would say lock not responding, and the Amazon key app would say cannot not connected. Totally random and calling Schlage with a case number, they said the lock wasn't truly compatible with orbi. So they built a lock not completely compatible with one of the best selling routers, way to go Schlage. I had to get Amazon to refund because Schlage didn't offer to do anything, and got the connect z-wave plus which is more messy to setup and needs a hub, but appears to work fine and faster response. I guess its something about the chip sets that doesn't like each other, since Schlage refused to answer or say any firmware update could fix it. Actually the last guy I talked too said the reason they wouldn't say it they don't like that type of information to be released. I wonder why they think I'd want a lock that doesn't work with a basic wifi router.

It’s the first time I’m hearing about this problem, I’ve installed the Encode for 100+ customer and no one complain about any issues.
I think in general that every smart electronic lock out there have some issues... in your your case you found one and I’m very happy that you shared this here so other people can see it and if they have the same router they will probably think twice before purchasing the encode.
Hopefully in the future they will do some software update to the Schlage Encode to be fully compatible with this router.
