I did this in November 2023. I have a short term rental in Crystal Beach, TX and it is very humid, rains a lot etc. no issues since!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to give it a try since I'm on my 3rd Schlage deadbolt in as many years. It is a nice lock when it works, but our Canadian winters (we normally get minus 20C temps here) do a real number on the door locks with the condensation and resulting moisture buildup. I have to give a shoutout to Schlage for their exceptional product warranty. Maybe their design engineers can take a cue from this type of feedback.

I hope it works for ya. I live in Houston Texas and I had major problems during the summer when it was 114 degrees outside and 70 degrees inside my house. We have only gotten below freezing one time since I made this video lol. But so far I has been working like a champ. Let me know how it goes. Thanks for the comment.

Very elegant fix. Seems a lot easier than installing a gasket.

Would love to hear an update on how your lock is doing after this fix. I have 3 short-term rentals that I manage, and one unit has had FIVE Schlage Encode locks go bad! Another unit has had 3 go bad. Unfortunately I'm not local to where these STRs are located, so I will have to try this fix when we are in the area in October. It's ridiculous that Schlage has not fixed this issue yet! It's great that they replace them, but then the replacements go bad too! Their locks are awesome WHEN they work! Thanks for sharing this fix, btw! It's much appreciated!

Struggling with this issue myself on two different brands of door locks. Will give this a try on my Schlage. I live next to Galveston, Texas FYI.

I think if you do what I did in the video, you wont have any more problems. My lock still works. I am going to do just a small update video that shows the same lock with the same blue tape just to give some confidence.

man, my lock died today as my guests were trying to check in. Discovered it had a bunch of condensation inside. I can't believe Schlage keeps selling this product knowing of this issue. Wish I knew! Love the lock but today was tough

@@michaelkelton6319 Thankfully it was fixed by drying it. I'll just have to monitor it for this condensation issue. Hope it doesn't happen again but I don't see why it won't.

@@MichaeldeFilippi I've put moisture-absorbing packets inside near the battery pack. Hoping that helps with the condensation issue until I get try this fix. They do need to changed often, especially in the summer.

This is an excellent idea. I have a combo pad deadbolt that I've had for years and I just moved to Texas and it stopped working recently, I opened up and it was just absolutely saturated inside. I might try dry it out see if it can be fixed, but I think shes a gonner. I will be trying this in future when I eventually get a Smart Lock

@@kevinloper7353 It is disappointing to hear a $300 lock is performing so poorly in less than ideal weather conditions. It is like they only tested in the lab under perfect condition. Did you replace it with a different brand that works better? I really how seamless it works with iPhone / Apple watch but I am afraid I may get out of my own house at the most inopportune time.

Schlage told me today they would send me a new one. They said the new one has mitigated the condensation issue by changing wires. Not sure if that’s true. The last one I sealed with high temp duck tape on the back of both parts . Still ended up failing but didn’t see any condensation. From Home Depot two units had failed keypads right out of the box.

Michael, how long did you let the sealant dry before reinstalling the lock? Is it still working for you all this time later? I just got a lock installed last week and its already not working. I dried it with a hair dryer and put new batteries in but its still flashing red. Their customer service phone # is worthless, I waited for over an hour today on hold waiting for someone to pick up.

    • @michaelkelton6319
      @michaelkelton6319  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Sorry that you are going through the trouble. When my lock failed there was no lights that was working at all. maybe give it a little bit more time to dry and see what happens.
as far as the dielectric grease, there is no drying time. you can put the lock back on ASAP.
And yeah, so far my lock has lasted a year so far. I think I will do a follow video today. good luck man.

    • @MartyFlynn-z1o

Thanks for this helpful info. Just crazy to think that condensation is the root cause and yet Schlage never mentions it. It makes total sense though when it’s 95 outside and 70 inside. Someone suggested drilling a couple of small holes in the battery lid to let it vent and that this solved the problem. I think I will try your idea and this one as well.

Thanks for the video. Did you have an issue where u go to unlock with pin code and it made beeping noise and see "x" led lights up where the lock icon is on keypad but door won't unlock and your battery is still good? I have it happened twice in a week now and it is unsettling. I inserted physicals key and it refused to turn! I installed lock for about 3 months now and it was working great until now. I have the Encode Plus model.

Yes it did that before I fixed it. I would put brand new batteries in the lock and a few days later it would show the red emblem indicating that the batteries was low again. I suspect it had something to do with the batteries getting wet. But it hasnt shorted the batteries sense I have mad this video.
