Jimbo from what all I’ve learned from you I owe you a major thank you. I was able to help someone today that was about to throw away a new Gekkibijin and the Kestrel BFS rod. He had messed with the side tension knob. I reset it for him and showed him how to cast it. And today was a great day on the water. We caught 67 Crappie on our BFS gear. Brother hope that you and the family are doing great and keep those lines tight.
That is amazing! I am so happy to hear that! Your fishing buddy must be thrilled now too! Sounds like there will be many more fun trips to come! Send your friend over to my channel if he wanna learn more! :)
@@rawrfishing brother I already have sent him. While we were on the water he ordered three Ark Gravity. I told him you had videos on how to set them up and to get his rods from BFE. He told me when I can he wants me to help him order the correct rods for crappie fishing. So again thank you.
Very good indepth info for that reel. Love the casting vids. But can't wait for the fishing to get into full swing for those vids cabin fever setting in. Be blessed. My friend.
Thank you, I appreciate it! I got some nice winter catches last weekend. Just need to edit. Just clearing up the queue as I need to make room for spring catches lol
That $250 can be better spent exploring another reel or upcoming release. The Mg12 has the same AMB braking system but they claim it has high speed spool bearings.
Yeah but the spool supposed to be smaller and lighter for the mg12. Who knows... I will see what the rest of the other ppl wanna see too. Worst case scenario... Return and call it done haha!
Great review, you likely helped me avoid some headaches! What real combo do you recommend for an experienced 12 year old fisherkid but first introduction to baitcasting? Primarily fishing panfish and bass in MN... occasionally going for a larger pike. Is there a such thing as sub $100 baitcaster that is hard to birds-nest up?
Thx! Baitcasting reels are specific, you need to get the right size reel for the right size rod and line to specific weight lures out. My channel is mainly about BFS fishing, you can find ton bfs reel reviews or simply finesse bait baitcasting setups. Take at my latest post on the community tab about the Tatula 100. You can watch the video as I show how beginner friendly it is and how cheap u can get one on Amazon right now
The MG12 is definitely the sweet spot if you’re tossing lighter lures. I own regular megajaws elite and can toss a 1/4oz lure just fine. With that said I prefer fishing my MG12 for any lure under 3/8oz. I’ll be picking this megaJaws up tho.
If u are referring to the older MJ elite, that reel was better than this one here. Didn't do 8.6 g as portrayed with a near full spool. I will be returning this reel. Perhaps I may give mg12 a shot, but at that price, Daiwa reels would be a better choice!
@@rawrfishing yeah the original megajaws elite. I think you’re having an issue with your open box reel! Maybe do an exchange and test it out again. I feel like the MG12 should be $199.99 but it’s literally my favorite reel I’d spend $250.00 on another one.
The reel should be fine. I assessed it in every way possible and it didn't seem used or abused In a way that would cause any issues. 250 dollars, I would recommend going to www.digitaka.com to buy JDM reels at amazing prices due to current currency conversion! You just won't get the warranty support... Which is not really needed for Daiwa or Shimano!
They should all be using the same braking system. The difference would be the spool size. This one is shallower for lighter applications, but as u can see.. It's not that good. Basically, they want to compete with the size 70 reels against Daiwa and Shimano. Not there yet tho!
@@rawrfishing that's what my coworker said when I showed him the MegaJaw Elite reel. I just need to fork out a little more I can have Shimano SLX DC. But if the regular MegaJaw brake system does self adjust then it's all good.
I don't think it's a good deal. It doesn't really self adjust. It's just a dynamic magnetic braking reel. Like Daiwa, but Daiwa is much more smoother and refined. If you are good with your thumb, the new Shimano slx mgl 70 is at the Same price and probably casts lures further and lighter too! I think I should get it!
Definitely costly, but if ur using 1/4 jigs, once a plastic is on, it should do okay. Do know that the older generation Daiwa Tatula 100 is being sold at 129.99 at most places to push out old version as the new one is now out at 179.99! I saw it on TW, DT and Scheels!
@@rawrfishing I used to be a big fan of kast king my first baitcaster was a kast king in my opinion I think if the would have stayed in the price point of $50 to $80 I think they could have really taken advantage of that market but when they moved up to over $100 I don't think they can compete with dawia and Shimano but that is just my opinion
You are right! As much as they wanna break out of the affordable innovation perception with higher priced reels, so far every one I have owned was a miss.
Thanks for the presentation. I watched 2-3 times with interest. However, I also have a motive for this. Birthday surprise Westin W4 2nd 10` MH .6/16 - 1 1/12 looking for a reel to cast long. I use PE 1-1.2 (Japan) ; Acme Kastmaster and pilkers 1/2-11/2. As for whether the MegaJaws Elite Baitcasting Reel can cast 100-110 yards with this combo, I didn't get a definitive answer? Can I rely on the brake system of this reel? 🤔🤔🤔 The alternative is Shimano, but 2x more expensive. I have Kestrel bfs and Speed Demon Elite, I am happy with their work today.
I am not a fan of Kastking reels that you have mentioned. With yen down, it's a great time to explore Japanese reels from Amazon or digitaka or plat Co Jp. You can even get the Daiwa Tatula 100 from Japan cheaper than the American version and cheaper than this reel! amzn.to/3Lksp0L
@@rawrfishing Thank you. I used to have a Daiwa. Worked for a year and already needed repair. Next I went with Shimano and Abu Garcia reels. I have been using KK for 2 years. my daiwa lasts a pretty long time. I think it all depends on the usage and maintenance. A lot of daiwa reels got less drag than say abu garcia... so if you max it out, you might be going for a hurt. Japanese is all about finesse approach, so everything is a tad bight lighter. Give it a shot again! The Tatula 100 JDM version is so cheap it's worth it!

1/4 oz should be easily casted using the Daiwa Salamandura SV TW 70! You can try ceramic hybrid bearing for your reels. Might help, but I don't know anything about the reel you are using. Slx mgl 70 should do it as well!

It works better with 30 lb braid.
Thicker line depletes faster, so it usually do, but the draw back is that you cast shorter distance.
