You know, building/DIY projects such as this for any fishroom is some of the most enjoyable content on youtube. Thank you for sharing, looking forward to the next ones.
I haven't seen if anyone already asked the question about the specs for this build out. I am looking to do the same for 2 55 gallon tanks. Love your videos John & Lisa as they are very informational and I learn a lot each week.
From someone who works in construction and builds decks etc, I wouldn’t rely on brads and just the screws. Wouldn’t hurt to spend like $30 more and install some engineered steel brackets and timber loks or through lags. Would definitely add to the beefiness and would add another level of peace of mind that it won’t ever fail.
When i built my stand for my 55, I used 4x4 corner posts and put my 2x6 on the outside with a piece of plywood covering the top. With doing that, the 4x4 are inside the footprint of the tank supporting the weight. No need for the extra support pieces. At the time being 17, that's how i cut cost of materials but kept it plenty strong. Im 37 now and its as strong now as it was new.
I built some of your stand designs and they are solid.I used a slab top as my tanks are acrylic. I appreciate you showing us how to make them so much. Thank you. T
Spring is here , winter is over. Time to climb out of hibernation & work on some projects 😅 Always liked the double decker stands & these look very strong/well built. Why not run the filtration with Fluval , best cannister filter in my opinion 😎
I've built several stands over the passed 55 years. The only difference is that I glued all my joint & flat surfaces along with screws & the odd dowel spots. I also liked when Kreg came out with there pocket hole system, I wound up getting the complete system, I couldn't help not buying it all. John
I see a lot of these videos and I am about to start my own ... people you need to use the 2x4 or 2x6's under the tops to the floor do not let screws hold the weight! They look nice! well done :P
Looking good so far! True, the weight distribution is important with this type of stand. Even with quality connecting material legs should go below the tank. Originally I wanted to do something similar, 40gallon secondary below 190gallon main. But instead of wood I decided to go with steel (with wooden cover)... which wasn't without issues. The locksmith (who welded it) recommended 30x30 mm steel beams of 3mm thickness (2 mm is more common, 1 inch is 25.4 mm) and that even with taking out central beam out of all 10 standing beams (legs) should be more than enough, one of the LFS owners convinced me otherwise... even if just for the rest of my mind. They had one stand (of different design) twist. My flat has cheap floating floor on it (on top of concrete) and floating floors tend to deform easily. Steel is also less rigid than wood of the same strength.
Hello John, looks good, good idea for more space. I know you can't have vertical centered support, but could you atleast put one in the back. I just feel little more at ease with something supporting the middle, specially on a 6 foot tank. Love your show, good job you two.
Hi John! Always love your stuff and your blunt honesty. Any chance we could get a cut list for the double 125 stand? I need to rescue a couple fahakas…
Love it! I have a stand with a shallow 40 on the bottom, a 3ft 35gal in the middle, and a 75gal on top! Pretty similar! I would really appreciate it if you could maybe put (part 1, 2, 3 in the titles). I feel it helps so much when I want to look back at see other series you do
Team kgtropicals what an awesome video they just keep getting better and better love all the content keep them coming The old fish house is looking great should show a little more of that saltwater tank how's gizmo doing my buddy anyways guys see you on the next keep up the great work
I made my stands much the same way, though my biggest aquarium is only 75g. They are more like benches than stands. I have a little bit of room around the edges to set things down when doing maintenance.
I have a metal tubing stand made by the company Hamilton that came from the best fish store in my area. It holds my 90gal tank. Im looking to expand in the hobby and add a 60gal breeder underneath. Skeptical if the metal tubing could support both stands, but it does look like what the stands designed for. Space is limited in my house so tank stacking would be ideal.
TBH fish are really cool, there are so many of them and each and every one of them is unique in some way, it's amazing that we can make a stand and aquarium to keep them in our homes, such beutifull creatures 😁
I built a stand for my 55 gallon with room to replace, little did i know id get a Good Free 50 Gallon that fits Perfectly at the bottom part of my stand!
Question I see most everyone uses deck screws for joining the wood . Have you ever considered using pockets joints and if so would this be stronger or weaker, thanks for all the great information you guys out out .
Is there a link to the finished cabinet? I keep checking back but can’t find that video. Id love to see how this turned out after the trim was put on.🐟🐠🐡
Hi John I hope you can to see this comment I’m going to start on my diy stand for my 125 6 foot tank But I don’t no the dimensions of the cuts for all of the supports and uprights I was wondering would you have the dimensions for the one you built but I am just going to have one stand for my tank ?
You've built stands, but how would you go about reinforcing a floor/subfloor to withstand the weight of a larger tank? I have a 180 gallon glass tank that Im set up in my basement. I wanted to have it on the first floor but I'm not sure the floor can hold it. I can access the floor thru the drop ceiling in my finished basement.
When working with dimensional lumber, how do you deal with the general unevenness of it? For example, I never see anyone running their horizontal supports through a jointer, or do anything to address that. The last few stands I've built when I set the tank on there, I can see many high and low points where the rim of the tank isn't making consistent contact with the wood. Is that something to just not worry about?
If I scaled this set up to hold a 4ft 180gl tank on top would I be safe with 2x6 with no middle brace? Then if I need something on the bottom to tie it together to make it not wobble I have a 75gl I would put down there on the 2x4 at ground level. Am I safe to make it like 5ft so there is room for the 75gl but that puts the 180 in the middle part not directly down on the corners.
Is there enough room for something in the middle of the room? My fish store has a huge round tank in the middle of one of the rooms it has a small 🦈 shark at one time. That thing swam around and around it was cool. Just wondering.
Hey! I heard you guys are in NC now! That’s awesome. I am a RAS member. Was wondering if you’d be interested in building one of these for me?! What’s the best way to contact you? Thanks!

@@loganryan1317 it didn't say premiere tho? if it's a premiere it says that
Can we get a cut list on the 75G? Please :) How can I get it
You are proving the theory that no matter how much room you have you still don't have enough room!!! :) Awesome!

Next time, on 'This Old Fish House'. Cool series idea, guys. It's neat to see how everyone goes about making the most out of their space. Thanks!

Yes!!!! Can’t wait to get this built for my new diy fish room!!
👍😎 Looks good and sturdy. Like that your making them match, will really look better when done.
I just bought a 75, looking at stacking with another 75 because of the size constraints in my fish area. Thanks for the video!

Great build! Thanks
Yup love having a two aquarium stand
Joey king of DYI has some great info on these. Cool
Great skills and stand! I'm going to copy your design so that I can use it for my 125g and sump set up.
New tank defo gonna be a huge betta sorority like MD's :D Hope I'm right! Would look amazing!
How Awesome

Hello fellow fish friends😊
hello

I need a point by point schematic blueprint of your stands so I can build mine. 😁
Very nice sir
Just built my first aquarium stand. 100 gallons and I guess I now know I way way over built lol

Another great video! I just love the cat bombing... it's impossible to get cats to go away when a camera comes out!
Can't wait to see it all up and running nice 1 john
Nice
Obviously this guy is a construction worker, not a carpenters.
👍🏻👍🏻
❤ are you going try the new fx bio media with the new filters? I'm a big fan of them, not a bad price for what you get

This project doesn’t sound like it’s only “one stone”.
Hello Join
Love your channel. One question. What was the height of the stand?
What are the dimensions of the cuts ya did to make the 125g?
Looking to make a 125 stand any help on the cut lengths?
Would you still use 2 x 6 timber for 180's or would you step it up another size?
@KGTropicals John did you use 2x and 1x for upright braces supporting the horizontal shelves? It looks like you have two supporter per leg?
Is there enough room for something in the middle of the room? My fish store has a huge round tank in the middle of one of the rooms it has a small 🦈 shark at one time. That thing swam around and around it was cool. Just wondering.
What do you think about TM aquatics build?
I only make aquarium stands out of marine grade birch plywood.
You have Tankizes lol
Can I siphon the floor one easily? Does it take forever?
I have a few items in my cart from your shop for a betta tank… how can I contact you to see that I have everything I need?? Thank you!! 🤩
Hey! I heard you guys are in NC now! That’s awesome. I am a RAS member. Was wondering if you’d be interested in building one of these for me?! What’s the best way to contact you? Thanks!
Good to go
