My ex husband used to volunteer me to cook breakfast for men ministry without asking me. I told him not to volunteer me for anything without asking me first. He said OK but he still did it 2 more times. I cooked the breakfast but I was angry. When we got home, I told him that if he EVER volunteer me anything again, I will embarrass the hell out of him. He never did it again.

Yes, embarrass them more. This is a major boundary issue. People volunteering your labour and company without consent is them kind of seeing themselves as the owner of your efforts and at worst even of your body.

No, submission is how a dog responds, not a fellow, equal human being. You are *not* entitled to s. Lave-like devotion.
Is it that women don't know how or that we aren't obliged to show such behaviour, especially when we are paying a *large* percentage (if not 100%) of the household expenses ?
Why should a woman submit to someone who hasn't yet mastered ADL (activities of daily living), & therefore who is functionally a young child, including the emotional dysregulation? Ewww on that mental image.

The Passport Bros. phenomenon always makes me think of a conversation I have with a friend. She practices family medicine, and she was telling us about how surprised she was when a 35-year-old Nigerian patient had died. She apparently had a heart attack or stroke .
And the Nigerian woman's husband was also a patient .
My friend said that the man's first visit to her clinic after his wife's death was really sad. But she was really shocked when she shared. How kind and thoughtful the deceased patient had been every time she had treated her. She said that the widower looked at her and said "She was very kind. She never said no."
I can't imagine a husband grieving the loss of sex after his wife has died. Of course it's part of the marriage relationship, and any rational person would mourn losing love and closeness to their partner. Partner. But for a man to basically say he missed his wife because she never rejected him sexually? It made us both really shocked and saddened.

I think she just needs to have a straight forward conversation with him. Tell him you want to fall in love again and be vulnerable with each other. The first husband was just like mine except he also withheld xes from me; this type of angry, dismissive treatment stomps the love out of the woman’s heart to the point that she can no longer stay. It’s so weird that males would rather destroy the entire relationship than to just do a few nice things for their wives. For the MIL and dumb husband-if you’re gonna drive 3 hours to pop up on a new mother, you need to bring lots of good food, be very quiet until the mother wakes up, and make yourself useful by talking to the husband and even cleaning up and helping out. Then you might be forgiven for stopping by unannounced. You’re not even supposed to show up unannounced-especially without gifts and/or food-expecting to be entertained.

But that has nothing to do with the victims, who may be liberal or conservative, as you can be the political minority in a state you reside in. That MIL is on a big old power trip. The husband probably is too. She probably had to be a slave to her MIL and now wants to inflict that on someone else. I hope she divorces him. Even holding these kind of boundaries is exhausting!
Edit: I had a similar experience with a former art mentor and his entourage. He was very generous with his knowledge and I appreciated that so much. But when I was getting ready for a big art show and super stressed he’d just show up on my doorstep and demand to be let in. “You need a break!” They’d twist my arm into coming out to dinner with them even though I was in a good flow with work.
Then he’d have the audacity to say, “So, what are you working on?” I wanted to scream “NOTHING!!! I WAS working on inventory but you azzholes interrupted me!!!”
When I tried to speak up for myself they’d shut me down. “You HAVE to spend time with your friends!”
One year I stayed at someone’s guest house in the boonies to get ready. But it was really inconvenient because most of my tools were at home. And her husband was also super nosy and accidentally dropped an opal into the gravel.
I was soooo mad after that. So the next year I just wrote a bunch of rude notes and stuck them to my door. “I’m getting ready for Market!” “Leave me alone!” “Friends and family F$&@ OFF!!!!”
(Some relatives were doing the same thing, including my narcissistic mother).
I was left alone FINALLY! And that mentor never called me again. I wish he’d of at least apologized for his entitled behavior but he never did.

My ex was super mean to me after we moved in together. Before he was so sweet, we moved in together and suddenly he treated me like he hated me and I wanted nothing to do with him. I just had to take the abuse and plot my escaped. Eventually it got to the point I was supporting him, myself, and our three kids off a part time minimum wage job and it was so awful, I had to feed 5 ppl off $40 a month and never knew if the rent was going to get paid all because he refused to hold a job and help with bills which he had promised he would pay more than half before we moved. I think he may have paid half twice in the year and a half we lived there but also during that time he was always mad, snapping at me, yelling, calling me names, and occasionally physically violent. He literally treated me like he hated me...but would freak out and slam things because I wouldn't sleep with him. I told him a few times that I'm a human being and don't want to fuck ppl that treat me like trash just like he wouldn't want to and that seemed to almost get through for a second. It eventually came to a head when he wouldn't come up with $250 out of our $1100 rent and I we were likely going to get evicted. He had slammed my head into our closet mirror breaking it a few days before, so I snuck off and get a restraining order and left him alone in that apartment. I finally started wearing make up again, the way I liked and doing my hair how I liked. He had belittled and insulted me for so long until I stopped. It seemed like the moment he saw me looking how I normally look again he got obsessed with me again, started kissing my azz and begging me to stay with him despite the fact I already left him alone to get evicted and inherit the consequences of his own actions. He made it seem like it was all a big misunderstanding and I fell for it and got back with him. He has still treated me better ever since I started taking care of myself again but still took extreme advantage, stole from me, and physically/sexually abused me. I can say with certainty her husband is a narcissist in the first story. He will never change

People have different sexual needs, but not having sex should be a mutual decision. When it's contentious like this, it's time to divorce. Women need nonsexual touch and affection. It's so easy to get more sex from your wife. But, they just want to be selfish and play by their own rules.
I am not saying that one partner cannot decide not to have sex, but that if one person decides not to have sex the relationship is most likely unhealthy and probably beyond repair.
