    Petrenko is revealing the chaos in Beethoven´s glorious music like hardly anybody else and finds a perfect solution to curb it. When he conducted the 7th in 2018, with Strauss` Tod und Verklärung I felt reborn. I can´t wait for his Mahler 9 next season.

    Petrenko is one of the few conductors who actually figured out what the real purpose of conducting should be. Not to just show tempo and dynamics but to invigorate the players with pure energy and emotion.

    • @avilla35
      @avilla35 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neither of those are his job; it's to interpret meaning and/or feeling. The composer has already provided the tempi for his work.

    • @joufaxerxes7966
      @joufaxerxes7966 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@avilla35 Nah. Furtwängler for example had sometimes pretty unique tempi. His version of Beethoven's 5th is really slow and depressed. The conducter always has a little bit to say about the tempi, since mostly the composer's notes aren't so exact. And even if it was the case, some go beyond their limits.

      Depending on the repertoire you see these quite often nowadays, at least in Berlin and not only with the Berlin Phil. Beethoven, Bruckner, Mahler seemed to have written their music with this seating in mind - at leat in my view. I think the difference in the concert hall is quite dramatic. Saw in the last days Rotterdam and Concertgebouw with Bruckner - both parted the violins to the sites. Music written prior to 1920 I prefer too played in german seating.

    I think it is Petrenko's intention to actually teach the audience how to interpret the piece they're playing, far more than just delivering the music. He tells the audience what to listen to, and what it means (at least what it means to him as a conductor).

    People who say that this conductor is goofy or that they just want to draw in young people: The music is light, festive and happy, like a dance, and the conductor is mirroring these emotions and transitions them on to the musicians. Why should he not be happy, smiling and somewhat dancing to the music? Isn't that also conducting? If it was a Mahler symphony or the 5th of Beethoven he wouldn't act that way but here it is totally understandable. His interpretation is original and refreshing, but also in a respective manner. If you want a second Karajan, thats okay, but there is more to music than just perfection and the emotions are please to be felt and in this case, its fun! And I find the idea to draw in younger audiences great! Why shouldn't they do that? There is nothing negative about evoking interest of younger people, its the exact opposite, young people mostly have a different perspective on classical music and its everything but childish. The only thing we have to do is teach them, to deal with the music in a respective manner, always keeping in mind what is being said and who the composer was. Its always sad to visit a concert and see that 90 % of the listeners are 40 or older, while the future of classical music and everything to be honest, lies in the hands of our future generations, the young people. So we should god damn try to bring classical music closer to our younger people, its undoubtedly necessary!

      Rattle doesn't do energy, he does average. He is the beige conductor, a man who opts for always the same. When I saw Petrenko conduct this at the Prom the entire building levitated. The roar of the audience at the end nearly blew the roof off. It was an astonishing performance, the like of which I have rarely seen before. Rattle is a stick waver who has made a career out of being average.

    A gravação ficou boa, mas sinto muita muita falta das dobras do tempo do Karajan, especialmente, dos 4 trompetes de rotor. Assim, perde-se demais comparando com a versão de Karajan. Gardiner com a ORR conseguiu fazer uma versão com instrumentos originais a altura da versão de Karajan. Mas ainda assim prefiro a versão do Karajan. A orquestra é cheia, com potência máxima. A tradição da BPO, para mim, é com as dobras dos instrumentos. Quando lembro dessa orquestra é assim que a imagem vem na minha cabeça. Era isso que eu queria ver na orquestra hoje. Ficou sendo sua marca de sonoridade. É uma pena que não se tenha dado continuidade a essa tradição de sonoridade. Mas o trabalho de Petrenko é muito bom. O problema é que Karajan é monumental e Furtwängler insuperável. Ganhou meu like. Peço uma coisa maestro,, dobre os instrumentos nas próximas gravações.

    So dirigiert man die Siebte. Und leider nicht so getragen wir Karl Böhm. Der hat dafür andere Qualitäten, die Petrenko nie erreichen wird.

    Yes… There’s this… Polished, powerful, pacy - but just just just a tiny bit - what? Slick? Machine-like? - compared to Carlos Kleiber with the Concertgebouw. Great, but CK just 1% greater, maybe.

      Efectivamente, esta versión recuerda a la maravillosamente fantástica de Carlos Kleiber con la O. del Concertgebouw. Creo que el solo hecho de aportar ideas nuevas en la interpretación de Beethoven es encomiable.

      @@defunesfan El tempo, el fraseo, la tensión, el ritmo. El adagietto es un adagietto y no una marcha fumebre, el presto final es rutilante. Wagner decía que la 7 de Beethoven era "la apoteosis de la danza". Admiro mucha a Böhm a quien tuve el honor de ver dirigir en Barcelona. Pero su 7 en mi opinión es muy lenta.

    With this orchestra, he just has to stand there and give a down beat and smile. It’s almost an insult to “conduct” Beethoven with Berliner.

      @@eirini1501 Absolutely right! I just don't think that Petrenko has complete grasp of Beethoven. Watch Burgos play the seventh with DNSO and you'll know the difference. My personal audio favorites are Klemperer (PO and NPO) and Fricsay (BPO)
