This was one of the best movies from the 1980's. I was 5 years old when this movie was premiered. It was made on the set where later the neighborhood of wisteria lane from desperate housewives was made. Bruce Dern was the humor of this movie. Rest in peace all the departed cast and crew of this movie.
The Burbs was a great movie that was never going to get good reviews from critics. It is a witty, off beat comedy that is beloved by the people who got the humor or grew up in the Burbs themselves. It's a great lazy summer day film that just brings good vibes. It is very nostalgic and brings back memories of carefree summer days. I grew up in a cul de sac as well and we had a neighbor that rarely ever came out of the house, was rude, and barely cut the lawn. I was scared when their mail accidentally was delivered to our house and my parents made me take it over there. 😂. Good times.
All these lines are great! My favorite is, "Boy that really burns my ass. That old fart...has the best lawn on the block." All the while he has a SMOKING HOT wife, yet he's worried about who's dog is crapping in his yard. Hahaha. True suburbanite.
The timing on those two clips at 3:19, "What have you got in the cellar here klopek", and then right after that, "You keep a horse in the basement?" was great editing with putting those two together.
I've never seen that before. I've never seen anyone drive their garbage down to the end of the street, and just bang the hell out of it with a stick. I, I've, just never seen that.
