  • A review of a 40 year old sherry bomb from a distillery known to be one of the best at producing well aged sherry whiskies. This whisky truly delivers.

    I remember when these first hit the shelves, it was $399 for the 46%. I passed on it, sadly. Now they are $850 for the 43% but it’s comes in a cool box 🙄... great review guys!
    I, too, find myself lowering scores on whiskies I had previously rated in the low to mid 90s. That’s the Beauty of a long and thorough whisky journey.

      I hear you brother. At $400 these were such steals and we should have stocked up. So mad I only grabbed 1 bottle. Prices go up and quality tends to drop.
      For sure. The longer we drink, the pickier we get. Cheers.

    Picked up a bottle of this a few months ago and saving to have for my 40th birthday in 2 weeks. Certainly makes getting a year older something to look forward to

    I snapped up one of these in 2010 too. I haven’t cracked the seal yet though. Sounds like a whole lot of Glenfarclas love awaits. I guess open it and let it sit in the cabinet for a year is the trick. Looking forward to it!!

      I’m happy you have one. It’s honestly amazing right when you open it. Such rich sherry from quality casks. But with air all these fruits start coming out. A nice surprise.

    Good to know about the 1st release. My store had a newer version of the 40 yr and the Family Cask 1972 which was also a 40 yr in square cardboard boxes. They were in the $600 price range. Wish I would of grabbed the 1972 family cask. Another great review.

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yah most of the family casks are such gems and def worth $600 for a 1972. I think I have that bottle as well. Hard to grab them all though.

    Another great review guys. Old Glenfarclas never disappoints. In Aberlour there is a whisky bar called The Mash Tun. They have every Glenfarclas Family Cask ever released for sale by the dram. Yes, pricy as you might expect so one is forced to choose but those family cask bottlings are amazing. Cheers!!!

    Great review! I have the second release 2011 (have not tried it yet just purchased it 3 months ago as an old dusty) the date it laser-printed near the bottom on the side of the bottle , not on the label. Hard to read but it's there.

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good info, thanks. Im sure the 2011 will be very similar in quality and prob just as good. Nice find.

      @@maltreviews No, you can't walk that back now! I'll have to find a 2010 release now because of what you said.;-) After all the only thing better than drinking such a bottle, is finding one at a reasonable price (an old dusty). The hunt is on!

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      VaryingViewpoint I agree. Nothing like finding a gem at an old price. Haha, To be fair I don’t know which years releases I’ve tried after the 2010. It is possible it was 2012 or later releases. I just know it after 2010 and the quality wasn’t quite as good.

    What's your favorite Glenfarclas all time?

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s so hard to decide between a couple 1960s family casks and a cask strength (non family cask) release of 1974 vintage bottled many years ago. Insane sherry quality. They are in the 94-95 range. But I can’t pick just 1 bottle. It’s like a tie unless I did a side by side I guess.
