It seems the bottle shape is inspired by the shape of the pot still itself. A great esthetic choice and an example of how Glenfarchlas has an attention to detail. Love this beautiful Speyside whisky.

This makes my dram of the Glenlivet 12 I'm having tonight seem inadequate. ;)

You will never experience whisky the way that this master experiences it.

Horst, thanks for the review. I just had this one at a scotch event last night. I was very underwhelmed by this one. Considering how great the 25 year is, I expected more from this 40. It did not bring the complexity that the 25 has and it seemed almost over aged to me. Not a bad dram, just not as great as the 25 in my opinion. And certainly not worth the price. Unfortunate.

I got a really Oaky one 3 years ago (when it was $400). Made me kind of lose enthusiasm for the price/value ratio for super old whiskey, even at that price.

I was going to order a bottle of this for my 40th birthday three years ago, but got laid off shortly before I did. I might still get a bottle of it as 45 or 50 is still aways lol

I always avoid older 21 25 30 40 year old glenfarclas nowadays. The batch variation is huge and some are really very poor - way too oaky and sour, although some can be amazingly good. Given the money they ask you to shell out you can still do a lot better for your money elsewhere - way too much of a gamble for me unfortunately. Safer bet is the family cask range - some real gems to be found but damned expensive though.

dont you think at this age its lost so much of its vitality...like an old man by the fire smoking a pipe with slippers and a housecoat on.
