Definitely swap to an A-1 length stock.
Try filling the hollow spacein the stock with construction expanding foam spray.
Switch out that nasty carry handle for a lightweight fixed BUIS, DD, Scalar Works, Troy etc.
Swap out the A-2 grip for one that works for you, (lots of us did it on deployment).

The A2 grip was designed when we trained to shoot standing in the Marksman Stance. Why they haven't changed it for the new forward facing stance shows how behind the military can be in some instances!
The modern military has a short memory. They don’t know the grip was designed that way in order to change it.

I run a David Tubbs CS Flat Wire buffer spring in my A1 stock on my DMR style 20" AR15. That "sproing" is significantly minimized and brass ejection is very consistent.

I am a big fan of the A4, built my own clone as well, I did change out a couple things. Went with a Magpul grip, enhanced trigger guard, Geissele Maritime bolt catch, and Magpul rail covers. I have gotten some comments about it not being totally clone correct, but at the end of the day it's my rifle, and I'm going to set up for me.
Fun video and nice builds. I'm looking to do something similar, and have seen the stocks around, but am curious who made the ones you used? Thanks guys

It's the blistering velocity you get out of a 20 inch barrel with a 55gr, or less like a 52gr or 40-45 gr, projectile is why one would want the full length rifle as originally intended. especially if that twist rate is 1.12, or even 1.14 . It's beyond the whole destabilized round thing, even more velocity occurs w looser twist rate. From what I was told at least..

FN makes the OFFICIAL clone. I carried an FN M16A4 through four years in the Corps as an 0311, and two tours to Helmand Province.
I have an interesting idea for future content - TH-cam "celebrity" gun guys in 1v1 or team airsoft matches.

Do you shoot at a range with other people often? Honestly I barely noticed it, if you frequent ranges it is just background noise after a while.

Recoil magazine recommended greasing the spring to take the twanging sound away. I found it works. I agree flannel would be the best paint scheme

Just FYI: Current M16A4's have Peq16's not 2's and no more separate flashlight bc the Peq has one. The ACOG though is a TA31RCOA4 for the exact model. Also depending on the unit you might see Matech BUIS or the KAC ones.

I know it would be a difficult video to make, but compare the mk18, m4 and m16a4 in several tests, from Cqb to long range shooting (~600m) and put each gun through the same "test". I know the results would seem obvious but i am interested to see how much more difficult it is to make long range shots with the shorter barreled guns and how much harder it is to run the m16a4 in a cqb environment.
M16A4 in close quarters? Horrible. Does provide a lot of amusement though in training. Can't say I envy the guys in early OIF before the switch to M4s.
The biggest problem I had was the weight. Carrying that thing for 8-9 hours was not fun. The CQB aspect was actually fairly manageable with a few tricks of the trade (although shorter barrels are still superior).

@@natrone23 exactly! The m4 was a compromise in lethality due to lower muzzle velocity. The 20” barrel alone is an upgrade to the 14.5 barrel. I used both and both are good rifles. For cqc I understand why m4 was used but in rural environment, m16 would prove way more lethal.

in order to properly clone we went to ramadi to film...I have a Peq15 on mine from the good old USMC, half taped acog, and no grip. Working on a build right now. Cool to see yalls

Kinda weird to have correct parts and the weight sucks but change the grip cause it’s a shooter. My clone is as close to a clone as I can make it. I have other rifles to be “shooters.”

Kind of like going to the store and comparing apples; both are different but still taste great. Nice comparison guys. I'm 6-3 but still like the A1 stock (and still like the XM16E1 type pencil barrel rifle as a carry piece). It goes with the old body.

On my TA31, instead of using plain tape, I always put electrical tape around a ladies hair tie and use the elastic ends to hook on the windage knob and the front hood. Just something you might consider trying out.
