Wow great video, I literally just found out I'm cross eye dominant, I've been a self taught shooter, never had anyone to show me so I just had to figure it out. When I found out I tried switching to my left shoulder but after having several rifles go flying I was like no more of that nonsense. I mean I know I'm effective with one eye shut but when you got people saying that's wrong that's wrong it's nice to see others who get it done the same way
Thanks for the video. I feel like my cross dominant acts disability on shooting. But this tutorial/tips is gonna help me. I will try it down on the range.
Thank you for this video! I struggle with this and now that I’ve watched your video I feel more confident and comfortable that I’m not alone. Hearing you describe it and how much information you knew and shared about the matter was fantastic!! Again thank you! Wish I found this video much sooner, but at least now I can work on some of my techniques. Wayne
Thank you so much for covering this topic it makes me feel so much better as a shooter I really appreciate it. I was feeling pretty limited but after watching this I feel a whole lot better, I've seen a lot of your videos and have really admired your skill and thought I could never get to that one of the biggest reasons being my cross eyed dominance. Again, thank you very much! Keep up the good work, I also intend on getting one of your sidecar holsters in the next couple weeks.
when i went to basic training, there were a few people cross eye dominant and really struggled to shoot at times. the drill sergeants experimented a bit but never could figure out the best way. these guys were all infantry with 1-4 combat deployments each. we had snipers, special forces, etc and none of them thought of simply just doing what you did.
This video couldn't have come at a better time. I'm a new shooter and just got my handgun and found it weird that I'm right handed, but aim better with my left eye. Good video!
I'm the exact opposite. For quite a while I couldn't figure out why I couldn't hit a damn thing until I stumbled on some TH-cam vids talking about cross eye dominance. While I have been shooting for quite some time now, this video does a great job of explaining how your body compensates, how to adjust for that, and I like how he boiled it down to "what works best for you".
"So today we are going to be talking about, EYEBALLS" "Click sir!" Option 4: Switch hands. I am cross eye dominant. My dad noticed when I first started shooting centerfire rifles at distance that I was trying to lean my head across the stock to see through aperture with my left eye. He moved the rifle over to my left shoulder and my shooting improved dramatically. I have been shooting this way for most of my life. Having my stronger and more dexterous hand as support hand has actually become an advantage as far as I am concerned. You run your gun with your support hand. That is the hand that is out bearing the weight of the rifle and moving that muzzle. If your stronger and more dexterous, dominant hand is your support hand, you can hold the rifle steadier and make faster, more coordinated transitions. Modern shooting discipline demands you keep your shooting hand in place and use support hand for manipulations. So whether reloading or running Immediate Action or Remedial Action, having your more dexterous hand doing the work means faster and more coordinated manipulations. I have to put ambi safeties on my firearms, and it can be a pain to find holsters, but other than that, there is no disadvantage to just switching shoulders and shooting from your non-dominant hand to your dominant eye. And there is a host of advantages that make it well worth it. Put a Radian Raptor and an ambi safety on your ARs and see how much better you get shooting from your left shoulder with very little training.
I'm left handed right eye dominant. I do the same thing you do with pistols. Fortunately I learned how to shoot a rifle right handed pretty early so I don't get shells in my face using my dominant hand. Good to see a video on this. I've always wondering if I was "doing it wrong"
Thanks Lucas for this video. You're the only one that I've seen has addressed this issue. I'm going to try your suggestions. I'm a lefty and that alone is a drawback in shooting so we have to just learn to deal with it. Thanks again.
I am right handed, cross eye dominant. Since age 9 I have shot my long guns in my left shoulder and my pistols in my right hand. This was never a problem competing in Cowboy Action Shooting, but it was a problem when I took my first AR-15 class. I found out very quickly having a pistol on my right hip and reloads on my left hip did not work well. I quickly problem solved and began shooting my AR in my right shoulder. It feels weird to have it on my right shoulder, but with enough training, it feels doable now.
Honestly, just picking up the rifle and shouldering it enough helped. Also, you have to fight the urge to stick the rifle in your left shoulder. I think just being right handed help. My right hand is still dominant and thus feels somewhat natural. I believe what I did at age 9 is similar to a switch hitter in baseball. I trained myself to shoot from my weak side and developed that muscle memory. I wish I had better advice, but I think what Lucas says at the end is that it ultimately comes to training and repetition.
The problem with shooting my AR in my left shoulder and my pistol in my right hand is the belt configuration. Typically, you have your speed reloads on your left hip(if your right hand dominant), but this doesn't work well when you shoot your AR in your left shoulder. My right hand would be crossing over my body awkwardly to grab my left side reloads. In addition, some of the controls on the AR are better suited for right-hand manipulation unless you have ambidextrous controls.
Oh, yeah now I got it.. the thing that was worrying me was that i will go the Army in Germany where the standart issue rifle for the Military is the G36 and since Im right handed but cross eye dominant I was worried but I think I can work my way around since the G36 is ambi. and in case of pistol reloads I can just swing the rifle to my back or just adjust shooting right handed I guess.. however thanks for the reply
I am right hand/ left eye dominant, and i always thought i would never be able to shoot precisely. but thanks to you, i can train and build confidence with the techniques you have presented to us. you are awesome dude! dont ever stop doing your thing!

Very correct and useful imformation. Im 55 and have been shooting firearms all my life in one form or another. I have the exact same problem or should I say Ive had this problem when I first started shooting. I corrected this in the same manner as you have just explained and it allowed me to enjoy shooting without being frustrated. Had I not learned these techniques earlier I dont think I would have commited to shooting in general. Good solid advice and explained in a very clear manner. Excellent tutorial video. Your a smart young guy, keep up the good work.
Thanks Lucas, was feeling a bit down when I discovered I was cross eye dominant, but its very inspiring to hear that you are too considering how much I admire your skills with a firearm!!
Wow I just thought I was hopeless. Now I know I’m right handed left eye dominant, but in fact I was left handed until at a young age my father forced me to use my right hand a religious thing. It made me ambidextrous in certain situations.
This legitimizes what I've been doing subconsciously for nearly 30 years. Some guys come at you with their high speed resume and some tacti-cool gear. This young man brings good, relatable instruction. Best firearms instruction on TH-cam.
I was cross eye dominate when i started shooting 7 years ago. I trained myself to become right eye dominate. Its hard to explain..the thing you do were you put your hands out and make a triangle and bring it towards your face to find your dominate eye. I just forced myself to focus on my right eye sight picture and doing that exersise over and over..idk if that makes sense.
I am a cross eye dominant person (right-handed and left eye dominant). The vision in my right eye sucks, while it is good in my left eye. Thanks for the great video! It's amazing!
My issue is I am right handed, cross eye dominant, but cannot wink my left eye! I have tried all my life and can only make goofy faces at you while I try. I taught myself when I joined the Army to shoot rifles and shotguns lefty, but still shoot pistols righty. For pistol, I use the same method as you. The sticky pickle for me is shooting around right side of cover and switching shoulders to my right side with a variable optic. If i don't get my head lined up juuuuust right, I can't pick up the reticle. Still trying to figure out something other than a pirate eye patch on my left eye to flip down! LOL!
thedoobie1 I'm the same way and having always put rifle and shotgun on my left shoulder I find myself having a difficult time shooting pistols ( side note I just started shooting pistols about a year ago still trying to master it) i find myself getting frustrated when shooting pistol cause I want the same tight groups I get shooting rifles. Going to try the head turn method hopefully it helps cause holding pistol in left hand doesn't feel natural like a rifle
I'm a right eye dominant and a right handed shooter, up until 15 years ago when I suffered an injury to my right eye. I can still operate with my right eye with a good adjustable optic. My problem is with my pistol. I went from an excellent pistol shot to a piss poor one. Your videos, and others have given me hope that I can at least, with alot of practice, become a half decent shot again. Thank you.
Man I gotta tell you...I’m cross eye dominant and have been shooting for a great many years and nobody has told me the tips you just offered me. I’ve just been “making do” with being right handed but left eye dominant. THANK YOU for making this video!! I will be trying out what you said this Sunday at the range!
Guess I'm a mutant then... i can switch between both eyes at will, but i find that i naturally favor my left eye over right when using a pistol... idk. Maybe it has something to do with my training. I first learned to shoot with my dad... old school nam vet, he taught me right hand right eye left hands left eye, regardless of dominance. Since I've been doing it from childhood, maybe I trained the deficiency out? I'd like to hear your thoughts on that, guys.
Wish I had found this video sooner. I'm right handed, left eye dominant. Struggled for a long time to shoot with both eyes open, and I started doing your 3rd method/example on my own a couple years ago and almost overnight I went from struggling to shooting pistol really well. What you describe is exactly how I get a good sight picture now, I tilt my head slightly to the right and slightly down. This makes my left eye focus more than the right and I go from blurry both eye open vision to a clear sight picture. Nice job explaining this.
Most encouraging and insightful video on this topic. I haven’t got any training yet but working on presentations alone and dry fire for practice with this info in mind is a lot better than the prior confusion. Thanks!
Hello from Ukraine! This video was recommended to me by my friend. I tried to solve this problem during the last 3 years. Thank you, mate, for sharing your experience! Next for me is training!
Never knew how people could shoot without shutting an eye. I figured I was right eye dominant because I’m right hand dominant. But I could also shoot with my left side. I never heard of cross eye dominant. Till now and you helped me with all the problems I had with shooting
Glad I found this video, luckily I had a good trainer in the military to explain cross eye dominance and he realized I was trying to compensate my shooting on handguns, I am weird I shoot rifle righty but pistol left and he taught me what you do, the head offset and center my dominate eye squared on sight. I shoot left much better with rifle because it feels more natural but I am getting much better at speed and accuracy right handed. Long guns is easy when you have all the time in the world but for rapid precision my left is better still on rifle. Just wanted to say I am glad you are explaining this concept to everyone and keep up the great work.
Lucas, great video with an excellent way of explaining simple concepts that are difficult to master, and for some, difficult to understand without good visuals. I share the same challenges as you when shooting, and had been told a lot of different methods early on, none of which worked. I now shoot as you do in this video and it provides comfortable, consistent results.
dude thank you so much for the last 10 seconds of your video. I have been shooting my pistol on and off for the last few years but couldnt seem to hit target much. Today i realized im cross eye dominate, and as soon as i figured that out i felt like it was hopeless to be a confident accurate shooter. but your last 10 seconds almost brought tears to my eyes. I have a family that would depend on me if push come to shove. I dont practice like i'd like to be able to but i figured ive put enough shots in to atleast see a little progress. but now taht i know its possible ill never give up on my accracy. Thanks man!
Thanks for this video. I’m right handed cross eye dominant just like you. This video was so helpful!!! I was really discouraged before and not sure what to do. Thanks!!!
It took me a long time to find a video from someone with a comprehensive explanation of this. For the most part, it’s what I did naturally, and sort of subconsciously. But I never knew if it was the right thing. I never knew if I was hurting or helping myself. Now that I’ve seen this I’m actually aware that I’m doing it. And I can practice exactly what I need to, in order to better my skill set. Dope video. And easily the longest you tube comment I’ve ever left. Ever. By far.

Thank you very much for this information and video. It totally changed my shooting as I am also right handed and left eye dominant. I went from struggling to get on target and stay on target to now putting shots exactly where I want them. This is a complete game changer. Please keep up the great work and Bless you.
This is so dumb, stop making things so complicated. Just take both of your eyes out and swap them. Takes less than a minute with a sharp knife and a full bottle of vodka.
+This Guy lol
This Guy Gotta live your reply lol
T.REX ARMS I'm not trying to be a crazy ATF nazi, I seriously am curious... how do you have a vertical grip on a AR pistol? Or is that a SBR with a SBM4 brace?
Ryan E oh alright. I'm gay for all things Geissele and it really looked like a 9.5in rail. I'm really jealous of his builds.
Its OAL is passed 26 inches so its legal, but it's now classified as an AOW. (if i recall correctly)
Lucas, extremely well done video and outstanding subject content. I have seen all of your videos and learned a lot along the way. Your shooting skills are impressive to say the least and to find out that you are cross eye dominant is surprising. I am cross eye dominant as well and can't wait to try your style at dry fire practice when I get home tonight. Keep the videos coming.
+2nd Chance thanks!
Up until this video I thought I was a unicorn. Great video, brother. Keep it up.
I'm a cross-eyed dominant shooter...My left eye is dominant and I'm right handed. I shoot rifles with my left and shoot pistols with my right hand. So glad you made this vid. Great job to you and your team.
Thank you for this. Being Lefty right eyed Dominant is difficult. This has helped me at the range with my groupings.👍👍
What if I'm third eye dominant?
Then you're woke af

Gosh, the videography, shooting, education and editing couldn't have been done any better. I absolutely LOVE these videos
Wow great video, I literally just found out I'm cross eye dominant, I've been a self taught shooter, never had anyone to show me so I just had to figure it out. When I found out I tried switching to my left shoulder but after having several rifles go flying I was like no more of that nonsense. I mean I know I'm effective with one eye shut but when you got people saying that's wrong that's wrong it's nice to see others who get it done the same way
Its always nice to hear from other cross eye dominant shooters. You as a whole, but especially this video, are inspirational. Thanks for the content!
Thank you. I am cross eye dominant, this video and several other videos you posted helped my shooting a lot.
"cross eye dominant is pretty rare....."
Every comment: "I'm that!"
its almost as if the video caters to that demographic so you see that demographic, weird.
He said in the beginning that 1/3 are cross eye, so not too rare.
@@Delantho heh
No dominant eye is the rare type
It is because the cap is "How too shooot if you are cross eye domiant". So we the cross eye dominants are watching this lol
Thanks for the video. I feel like my cross dominant acts disability on shooting. But this tutorial/tips is gonna help me. I will try it down on the range.
Yang Ster We’re in the same boat my friend
I am proud to be cross eye dominant (dominant right hand, dominant left eye) since Lucas is too
Omg it was like magic when I did your way of turning my head a little and it made SO MUCH of a difference. Thank you so much!
+aaron thompson you're very welcome Aaron! Glad I could be of assistance.
when i went to basic training, there were a few people cross eye dominant and really struggled to shoot at times. the drill sergeants experimented a bit but never could figure out the best way. these guys were all infantry with 1-4 combat deployments each. we had snipers, special forces, etc and none of them thought of simply just doing what you did.
Hey man, Thanks for the very useful info. I think your the 1st person who gave me the best answer to my problem. Left handed, right eye dominant
Ty very much for this video. For me this problem has been an adaptive struggle for years. Every bit of insight appreciated.
"So today we are going to be talking about, EYEBALLS"
"Click sir!"
Option 4: Switch hands.
I myself am left hand right eye. Your video was very interesting and helpful. Thank you for your time.
I'm left handed right eye dominant. I do the same thing you do with pistols. Fortunately I learned how to shoot a rifle right handed pretty early so I don't get shells in my face using my dominant hand. Good to see a video on this. I've always wondering if I was "doing it wrong"
Same here. Left hand right eye. Left pistol right rifle. My sgt was confused as hell when i was carrying in iraq.
Thanks Lucas for this video. You're the only one that I've seen has addressed this issue. I'm going to try your suggestions. I'm a lefty and that alone is a drawback in shooting so we have to just learn to deal with it. Thanks again.
Left eye right hand person here. I do archery barebow (no sights) and I shoot righthanded. When people tell me to shoot left I get mad
been loving the content Lucas. Keep grinding bro!
Ian Kelley I have the same problem!! Was there anything that helped the transition to right shoulder easier for you? Or just time on the range?
Honestly, just picking up the rifle and shouldering it enough helped. Also, you have to fight the urge to stick the rifle in your left shoulder.
I think just being right handed help. My right hand is still dominant and thus feels somewhat natural. I believe what I did at age 9 is similar to a switch hitter in baseball. I trained myself to shoot from my weak side and developed that muscle memory. I wish I had better advice, but I think what Lucas says at the end is that it ultimately comes to training and repetition.
I didn't quite understand your problems with the AR-15 could you explain?
Exactly the video I was looking for, I’m right handed and left eye dominant as well and this explained a lot of stuff for me. 👍🏻
I am right hand/ left eye dominant, and i always thought i would never be able to shoot precisely. but thanks to you, i can train and build confidence with the techniques you have presented to us. you are awesome dude! dont ever stop doing your thing!
He doesn’t say “um” “uh” “soo” “and” “like” when talking as fillers, pure experience and knowledge being shared here.
you my friend, have gained a thumbs up and a subscriber.
Sick edits too btw.
Wait just a second here... you were shooting with a led RMR in the rain. The internet said that wasn't possible...
+Garrett Creal hahaha
Garrett Creal Anything is possible for T-Rex Arms. Lol!
T.REX ARMS what camera do you record with
+Top Kek haha
I think someone is spraying him with a hose lol. You can’t film rain.
"If you used that you'd probably get instantly lobotomized." I laughed my ass off, I actually had to pause.
Hahahahaha
Very correct and useful imformation. Im 55 and have been shooting firearms all my life in one form or another. I have the exact same problem or should I say Ive had this problem when I first started shooting. I corrected this in the same manner as you have just explained and it allowed me to enjoy shooting without being frustrated. Had I not learned these techniques earlier I dont think I would have commited to shooting in general. Good solid advice and explained in a very clear manner. Excellent tutorial video. Your a smart young guy, keep up the good work.
As always impressed with delivery in not only performance but making people understand very clearly. Well done..
Not even cross eye dominant.
I just can't stop watching this
Me neither
Thanks Lucas, was feeling a bit down when I discovered I was cross eye dominant, but its very inspiring to hear that you are too considering how much I admire your skills with a firearm!!
Wow I just thought I was hopeless. Now I know I’m right handed left eye dominant, but in fact I was left handed until at a young age my father forced me to use my right hand a religious thing. It made me ambidextrous in certain situations.
I have this problem and I am so happy there is a video for this. Your channel has been extremely helpful in improving my skill and technique. Thanks
This legitimizes what I've been doing subconsciously for nearly 30 years. Some guys come at you with their high speed resume and some tacti-cool gear. This young man brings good, relatable instruction. Best firearms instruction on TH-cam.

Damn I just found out I can use both eyes equally well
Can we have a video strictly on stance?
Thank you for making this video! This was driving me crazy! I’m cross eye dominant and this explains so much to me. Thank you!
This was really helpful. I'm cross eye dominant and your style has improved my shot. Thanks!
I can just see you teaming up with John Wick.....kills would ten-fold!!
I just realized I'm cross eyed dominant!!!
I do the same, very difficult to explain indeed.
I have the same exact issue and instinctively have done all the things that you mentioned. I'm glad to see I'm on the right track for proper training.
I am a cross eye dominant person (right-handed and left eye dominant). The vision in my right eye sucks, while it is good in my left eye. Thanks for the great video! It's amazing!
“I knew I was different... I’m gayyyy” 😂 seriously though I’m crossed eyed dominate. I knew it wasn’t common. Just found out.
LOL!
thedoobie1 I am wired exactly the same way. Can't close my left eye and keep the right one open to save my life. Been trying my whole life.
i have this problem as well. can't wink left eye. how common is this do you know?
thedoobie1 Good to know I'm not the only one
thedoobie1 I'm the same way and having always put rifle and shotgun on my left shoulder I find myself having a difficult time shooting pistols ( side note I just started shooting pistols about a year ago still trying to master it) i find myself getting frustrated when shooting pistol cause I want the same tight groups I get shooting rifles. Going to try the head turn method hopefully it helps cause holding pistol in left hand doesn't feel natural like a rifle
Same here. Just started to pick up the sport more seriously and I am frustrated as hell.
Tired if hearing "knowledgeable" instructors tell me I must shoot left handed. I seem to hit the target just fine.
Outstanding Lucas, helped me a lot, especially the last part about mental state.
Thank you.
I was all like yeah I'm right eye dominant, then I'm like no wait, I'm left eye dominant, now I'm just confused and my eyes hurt.
2:00 Second method is just like how my biology class teacher taught me how to operating microscope
SHIT IM A MUTANT
Will you yell "Cowabunga!" or "X!" real loud before shooting/discharging?
I'm a cross eye dominant shooter like you as well. This video really helps me. Thanks.
10:16 plot twist- he missed every shot
Guess I'm a mutant then... i can switch between both eyes at will, but i find that i naturally favor my left eye over right when using a pistol... idk. Maybe it has something to do with my training. I first learned to shoot with my dad... old school nam vet, he taught me right hand right eye left hands left eye, regardless of dominance. Since I've been doing it from childhood, maybe I trained the deficiency out? I'd like to hear your thoughts on that, guys.

Moving your head/gun or shutting eyes is not a must. Ppl can learn to focus with their non-dominant, as you have
Solution: Go back in time and keep your mouth closed when you breathe
You're obviously a phenomenal shot. I have the same left eye and right handedness. It's comforting to see you absolutely drill targets.
You’ve helped me a lot Lucas. You the man!
Finally all my rifle optic cross eye dominant questions answered in one place, thank you! Time to practice...
Never knew how people could shoot without shutting an eye. I figured I was right eye dominant because I’m right hand dominant. But I could also shoot with my left side. I never heard of cross eye dominant. Till now and you helped me with all the problems I had with shooting
Love this. This really helps since I'm right handed and left eye dominant.
Thank you for this information, you are awesome and get straight to the point. Cheers, excellent camera work.
I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one. Right hand - Left eye
*GREAT PRESENTATION!*
I'm also a cross eyed dominant, right handed but left eye dominant. This video is very helpful, thank you trex arms.
Looked this up after realising today that I’m cross eye dominant as well. Great advice. 👍
dude thank you so much for the last 10 seconds of your video. Thanks man!
I, too, am a cross eye shooter. You are my GO TO GUY! Thank you for motivating me and for all the lessons that make me a better shooter!
Ever. By far.
