The ones on the radio can’t. But the spirit of legends is well and alive in people like Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Jason Isbell, and Colter Wall.
Cash is something else, and the Highwaymen collaboration was sheer genius - it was all about nostalgia - we will never see their likes again. The Highwaymen!
Jail birds, non-conformists, pot smokers, whiskey drinkers, jobless roadies, irresponsible heathens, give-a- damns, rebels and America's best. God bless them all forever and thanks for being whatever the hell you felt like being.
Lynn Van Devander agree my asks me the same thing and I say country music will never be the way it used to be. When you hear real country if it's not hitting the heart or leaving tears in ones eyes, it just isn't country my friend...😉
Covid-19 is not what you think it is. It's not just one virus just as AIDS was presented to us. They were concocted from other diseases it's a scam. Jon Rappoport investigated it and blew the whistle.
Todd Schneck Mr. Cash never approved of rushmore, nor did he approve of the REPUBLI-CON genocide of the native americans. He sang and spoke his feelings.✌
Excluding Kristofferson, he wrote some good songs but the reality of it is that he was average singer. So many better options musically for the fourth but they chose Kristofferson because they were all good friends with him which I respect.
My father went to work in the oil fields of South Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico after Vietnam. He would often tell stories to my mother of the crazy singing helicopter pilot (A former Vietnam helicopter pilot) who would fly him to and from the oil rigs, And speak of his dreams to go to Hollywood and become famous. One day the pilot up and left South Louisiana. Years later my mother talked my father into going to see a love story called a star is born starring Barbra Streisand and who else but that crazy singing helicopter pilot Kris Kristofferson. From the Vietnam helicopter pilot to standing on stage performing one of the greatest country songs of all time he has truly lived the American story. God bless him and all the men who fought to build this nation
That's a hell of a version. Legendary moment for real country music. Willie's voice has to be one of the richest and most unique popular music voices of all time. Dude can sing anything.
I was at this concert. Johnny Cash's appearance was not announced beforehand; but was also not unexpected. Best as I recall, close to midnight the man in black cast his shadow on the darkened stage and the first chords rang out. Then I knew, I was witnessing history. Unfortunately, I forget the name of the pretty lass from Texas who was seated to my right. My friends sang well that night.
The story of how Kris Kristofferson met Johnny Cash is unbelievable. He commandeered a helicopter from the National Guard, flew it to Johnny's house, landed on the front lawn and handed him a demo tape. No wonder they became good friends.
That is not how they met. He did fly the helicopter to Johnny's house but they first met at a Nashville recording studio. Kris was there to give him a tape. Johnny liked it but never recorded any of Kris's songs. That's when Kris took the helicopter to his house.
Anyone born at a time where you were fortunate enough to hear this for the very first time and still appreciate it today, you are a blessed human being. Rest in eternal peace Waylon and Johnny.
I have never been a huge country fan, but these four men are legends. This song will always have a special place in my heart, as it reminds me of my grandfather, and has all four of his favorite artists
I gotta say, Waylon and Johnny put the most into singing this song every time. They bring out way more emotion than the other two. not to say they arent good, they are. But those two seem to really get into it.
I’m not sure that in the last century there’s been a male collaboration the equal of these four. The tree tenors were great, these four are legendary. Country music died not long after The Highwaymen disbanded. This will forever be as good as it gets. Magical!
Btw, Willie Nelson has one of thr most classic unique voices in all of music history. He is like a 57 Chevy, absolute golden classic. NOBODY could open the vocals on this amazing song like Willie. 👏😎
I asked myself that very same question the first time I heard it. :) In my opinion Jimmy Webb has to be ranked among the best American songwriters of all time.
I love these men. From the bottom of my heart,I love them. They'll always be in my life, whether they're living amongst us or gone from our visible world. I just broke down and cried.
This song always takes me back to being a young boy. My grandparent had just bought a new 1985 Lincoln towncar and they had the highway men cassette and I remember constantly asking them to play it. I was only 6. To this day Cash and Waylon hold a special place in my heart.
Greetings from Finland. I know nuthin about country, TH-cam suggested The Higwaymen to me and gosh is this wonderful. They have touched me dearly and now I get country.
There was a time when people performed without electronics. They actually played instruments and sang without computer aid or just lip sync. That is a long lost art.
Outlaws who ever got the recognition as a group. Oh my god they're great. Even though Kris Kristopherson is an actor now. I knew he wrote songs, but had no idea he sang THAT good. Music will always be his home
I felt much resonance when Waylon takes the mic and the dam builders. That's my favorite verse from it all. They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound....
I used to have a thing for Kris Kristofferson back in the day. Looking at this now I can see why! I had good taste. Waylon Jennings did & always will be able to bring tears to my eyes just by singing. Johnny, well, what can be said? & Willie! I remember when Willie was slick , wore suits & my mother had a thing for him! I've been around a long time.
I literally cry when I hear these four men. By this time in their lives the best years were behind them but, they still put it out there. From each you can hear the pain, loves lost, the unfulfilled dreams, the heartbreak. I am in awe of their talent.
My mother had this album on vinyl and would play her country records all day, everyday. Gave me an ear for REAL country. Not this stuff they play today they call country. I swear... when Willie is gone too, my heart is going to break.
I can't believe that this was held almost a mile from where I live, It sucks that I wouldn't be born yet for a couple more years but Highwayman is probably my most favorite song of all time, I would have loved to see these legends play it live.
I watched the whole thing, the live prod cast, it was awesome! Sadly some of the Highwaymenare no longer with us. Waylon and Johnny Rest In Peace my friends 😌
This is the greatest!! I’m crazy about this album and the guys!! Why is it that Cash just knocks my socks off when ever he enters a phrase of singing? It’s so haunting and spiritual and bold!! I get chills just hearing him after certain lines of phrasing. He had such an amazing gift of how to use his voice! Like a John Wayne, James Earl Jones, Charlton Heston or Sam Elliot! Incredible!!❤️
No matter how many times I hear this doesn't matter what version speaks to my soul RIP Waylon and Johnny never will anyone like you pass this way again Chris and Willie much love
Best song of the concert! Those four guys are the absolute best of the outlaw country era; nobody can ever match them. Thanks so much for including this song. The only thing missing from this track is their lead guitarist, Reggie Young, one of the best lead guitarists in the business.
I think I would have sold my soul in order to see these four great men do a concert. My heart aches ❤ that two of them have left us and the remaining two have no choice but to meet the unforgivable cruelty of old age. 😢 But to me they will always be The Highway Men!! 💕 you all forever and ever!
These songs literally make me wish I had been born earlier .you know I love the time im living in but imagine being around when them boys were out and about
I never got to see Waylon, Johnny or Kris, but I was lucky enough to see Willie Nelson four years ago when he literally played at a venue 15 minutes from where I live. It was fantastic. Keep an eye out and try to see him while you still can.
Legends in every way. Such fantastic musicians. Thank you Johnny, Willie, Kris and Waylon for giving us the Highwaymen but most of all your remarkable amazing talents throughout the years. You 4 are the best.
Grew up with you guys!! Playin' this one for my Dad.. We used to dance together to your songs.. all of you.. big fans of Country music from back in the day.. Dad's been passed now for 11 years.. I still play your songs, and this one I love! and I dance.. I know my Dad is dancing with me.. Cheers from British Columbia, Canada! Xo

Kris is the Best. WAYY Under appreciated, wrote so many of the songs the others get credit for, and is the only one really playing his guitar in this song! All were great but Kris is just like the rest of us farm boys at heart. My favorite band.
Todays “country singers” can’t hold a candle to these 4 legends. ❤️
Charley Crocket is building his legendary status as we speak.
There are a few good ones.
