I has a great friend who I met in the 8th grade. His name was David Kaelin. He was so smart that he could pass math class while hiding a novel in his textbook and reading during the class. He introduced me to smart country music from the likes of Kristofferson and Prine. We were as close as brothers. He died in a fall during a hiking adventure when we were in our early 30s. I can't listen to Kris and his so very intelligent lyrics without thanking God for my friend without whom I may not have ever discovered the geniuses of country music. RIP, my brother.
The older I get the more I am drawn to this kind of music as well as Classic Gospel. I shed tears of happiness and joy just listening to a guy that's even older than this 80 year old guy. I love seening the younger folks with him. God bless all of them.
same here... Maybe when we get older we can look back and understand things and miss things that we took for granted when younger. Life is funny that way but always always worth the journey... tears joys all worth it...
What a wonderful group of young people having fun singing and playing tunes from the greatest era of country music this nation has ever known. Thank you Kris Kristofferson for the countless hours of joyous entertainment you have given me for many years.
I was lucky enought to be one of the hundred or so people who got to attend the taping of this show. It felt crazy to be in that small room with those artists. The show wasn't supposed to be a tribute to Kristofferson but it turned it one. Jewel was there in the audience to watch but Kristofferson talked her into coming up on stage.
How awesome! Just listening to utube and somehow that Bobby McGee came on and everyone on stage. Never seen it b4. I just know Lady A but didn't know the others. Fabulous! Love Kris. Rip😢❤😢
I feel for you, my mom and dad had to enter a hospice home, because me and my 5 younger siblings don’t live in Southern California or even California anymore. My mom fell yet again, but this time she wasn’t coming back, my mom was in the worst pain I’ve ever witnessed, she died 3-19-24, just got back from another long visit with my dad, he’s declining, because he is totally deaf and has Dementia. He is dying and I don’t know how I will handle it. I have always been such a daddy’s girl, I wish I was in Riverside, not the farthest northwest corner of Washington state.❤💔❤
Freedom's just another word for nothing left to loose. For me it made a big difference in my life. It changed my view on freedom. I had never thought of freedom as anything hurtfull until this song. It just struck my heart from the first time. When you are totally free you don't need anyone else. You are totally alone with you beloved freedom. You have nothing left to loose. You have noone to love. Thanks to Kris. This sentence has ever since been a solid brick in my wall. My wall against sweet sensations with tragic outcome. The wall to keep trust, faith and promises.
I discovered Kris K. in 1972. As I always wanted to thank him for shining a light on the darker side of life I use this post to do it. Thanks Kris! I've been to less than half dozen concerts in my life. Kris- 3 times.
I well remember hearing Mr. Kristoffersen play this ( and Sunday Morning Comin' Down) at Newport Folk Festival in 1969. A fresh face, with a wonderful portfolio of songs!
While Kris is not the greatest singer of all time, there is no doubt he is an extraordinary song writer. If he were not a musician he could have been a poet. His songs will live way longer than this mortal life.

Dear Kris Kristofferson, thanks for a great and outstanding song, thanks for all of your songs! May God always bless you Sir, I think you brought so much joy into the life of a lot of people in this world! Greetings out of Bavaria, Germany!
Kris and my uncle, Fred Foster, were great friends and worked together on many songs. Fred has passed away but the musical legacy lives on. Kris is indeed a humble, great man.
I had the pleasure of sitting and talking with another of Kris's good friends, back in July of this year, (2019.) Another Foster, this one being Jerry Foster, another member of The Songwriter's Hall of Fame.
I watched a Documentary about Kris: His Life and Work ....your Uncle Fred told one of the funniest stories about Kris when he was starting out going up to Canada to support Ronnie Hawkins on tour...had me in stitches...you should check it out ..he could definitely tell a story!! RIP
Personally, i think this performance should be on CMA Awards 50! this is Country! the love, respect, camaraderie, the passion for music and just having fun while entertaining at the same time!
All of your songs are so beautiful! Thanks for posting them. God Bless You All! May you'll be well, happy, successful, and become able to enjoy peace all the time!
I loved Kris Kristofferson since the early '1971's' when I learned that he was the writer of this song with Fred Foster, I discovered this song through the Great Janis Joplin and every time this song is played Janis is present even right now, she is the one who made this song to be the Song of a Generation of Lovers of Peace and Freedom. Many memories are identified in this song that have shaped our life later on. Rest in Peace Janis and live free Kris.
Kris Kristofferson, thank you so much, this is so wonderful, I´m from Germany and I love to hear your voice! You and your musical group are just perfect, it couldn´t be any better and hopefully we will have many more years to come with you Sir! Your songs accompanied me through the past ten years and sometimes difficult life, thank you Mr. Kristofferson out of Bavaria in Germany!!
Bennie Sweat, don´t say that! My uncle was 89 In October, my Mom is 84, both in good shape! I am 55 and as of what I can read in Wikipedia, Kris Kristofferson was born in June 1936, so he should be 81 years now. But still I think we are all in the hands of God and I want to wish you many more years to come, thanks and all the Best out of Bavaria in Germany!
My Dad was nearly 102 when he rode on ahead 3 years ago, Mum's just catching up the trail at 94 and still riding this life! Don't count the oldies out yet!
Dusty Fogg, thanks so much! And yes we should be proud of our older people with so much wisdom! Sometimes I hate when my mother with 84 is giving me some advice, but then the next day I think - it wasn´t so bad what she said! I hope to have my Mom around for many more years and I also wish the same to you and all the Best out of Bavaria, Germany!
What an outstanding performance and brilliance! After some google work I think I found the names of the front line performers. 1: Jewel Kilcher (with Kris), 2: Kris Kristofferson himself, 3: Mickey Rafhael (harmonica solo), 4: Martina McBride (herself!), 5: Charles Kelley (the tall), 6: Jo Dee Messina, 7: Hillary Scott, 8: Dave Haywood, 9: Amanda Shires (fiddle solo), 10: Jason Isbell (guitar solo), 11: Brandy Clark. Still missing the second line. Corrections and additions appreciated.
After viewing TH-cam videos for at least five years, I am declaring this video to be the very, very best. Everything, from the harmonica to the guitars, to the singers, this combination is unmatched. KK is a legend!
This was one of the first songs our music teacher taught us when I was in grade 5 back in the late 70s, and it is still one of best songs I've ever heard.
All of them together can't diminish how great Kris is by himself; watching Willie, last night on the 2019 CMA'S, gave me chills and sadness as he labored mightily to sing with ? Musgraves. Brought tears to my eyes realizing that he and Kris are the last two of the Highwaymen.
My applause to Skyville Live for producing such an excellent quality video! This is uncommonly good and whoever produced it should be recognized. Too often, the filming (visuals) just aren't very good or the sound is less than wonderful. In this case, the producers did an OUTSTANDING job that should be appreciated.....

This was the first Kris Kristofferson song I learned back in the early 70s. Still love it just as much today! And Mickey still sounds great on the harmonica. He never seems to age!!
@@sniper58dk You're kidding of course. I might suggest that you do your homework before you make a statement such as this. Kris definitely wrote this song. It was recorded by Roger Miller and made into a huge Country hit long before Janis got hold of it. Roger sung it the way it was supposed to be sung. So please don't say it's a Janis song. Sad that she didn't live long enough to hear her own version being played on the radio. BTW, I'm NOT a bro.
@@sniper58dk Kris wrote the song and it was performed and released first by Roger Miller who had a big hit with it. Kris and Roger were best friends and Roger knew it had a special meaning for Kris. Janis was also good friends with Kris and picked it up later.

+biggestkkfan Well you know I agree with you there! Dylan is great to be sure but his lyrics are too abstract for my pea sized brain. Kris just cuts right to the quick. The call his writing simplistic, but I've tried writing like that and it..is..hard!! I love how Kris is finally being giving the exposure he deserves. Big thanks to people like you who just keeping finding these awesome posts.

Hearing this song for d first time! 👍🎵... Who was Bobby?
Busted flat in Baton Rouge
Waitin' for the train
Feelin' nearly faded as my jeans
Bobby thumbed a diesel down
Just before it rained
Rode us all the way to New Orleans
I pulled my harpoon out of my dirty red bandanna
And was playing soft
While Bobby sang the blues
With them windshield wipers slappin' time
I was holdin' Bobby's hand in mine
We sang every song that driver knew
Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose
Nothin' ain't worth nothin' but it's free
Feelin' good was easy, Lord,
When he sang the blues
And feelin' good was good enough for me
Good enough for me and Bobby McGee
From Kentucky coal mines
To the California sun
Bobby shared the secrets of my soul
Through all kinds of weather, Lord
Through everything I done
Bobby baby kept me from the cold
Then somewhere near Salinas, Lord
I let him slip away
Lookin' for the home I hope he'll find it
And I'd trade all of my tomorrows
For one single yesterday
Holdin' Bobby's body next to mine
Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose
Nothin' left is all that Bobby left me
Feelin good was easy, Lord
When he sang the blues
And buddy, that was good enough for me
Good enough for me and Bobby McGee..

Ein musikalisches Kunstwerk mit allen Akteuren, kaum noch zu übertreffen, wird immer wieder genossen
Exakt auch meine Ansicht!!!
Nice voice he has what a singer
what a song...😂
What a lovely song to listen when you are rexlaing sir E
This was the first Kris Kristofferson song I learned back in the early 70s. Still love it just as much today! And Mickey still sounds great on the harmonica. He never seems to age!!
The 70's had many great songs come out! Born in the 50's I grew up with the best of music!
Sorry Bro' that was never one of Kris' songs.. It was written and performed by Janice Joplin..
@@sniper58dk Sorry, bro, but you are the one who is wrong. This is Kris's song, though Janis's version is probably best well known. Look it up.
@@sniper58dk Kris wrote the song and it was performed and released first by Roger Miller who had a big hit with it. Kris and Roger were best friends and Roger knew it had a special meaning for Kris. Janis was also good friends with Kris and picked it up later.
Ve en Paz, querido Kris ❤, la felicidad que nos diste alumbrará tu camino. D.E.P.
I wonder did Kris know that he had just written one of the greatestestest est... Rock/ Country songs ever!
Coverd by many. Charlie Pride was one of the first times I heard it as a lad
@@markhalliburton935 Janis Joplin when I was a young, young lad.
[Verse 1]
Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waiting for a train
When I was feeling nearly faded as my jeans
Bobby thumbed a diesel down, just before it rained
And rode us all the way to New Orleans
I pulled my harpoon out of my dirty red bandana
I was playing soft while Bobby sung the blues, yeah
Windshield wipers slapping time I was holding Bobby's hand in mine
We sang every song that driver knew
[Chorus]
Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose
Nothing, I mean nothing, honey if it isn't free, no no
Yeah feeling good was easy Lord, when he sang the blues
You know feeling good was good enough for me
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee
[Verse 2]
From the Kentucky coal mines to the California sun
Yeah, Bobby shared the secrets of my soul
Through all kinds of weather, through everything we done
Yeah, Bobby baby kept me from the cold
One day up near Salinas, Lord, I let him slip away
He's lookin' for that home, and I hope he finds it
But I'd trade all of my tomorrows for one single yesterday
To be holdin' Bobby's body next to mine
Phuong Do I detect a wee bit of "Janice Joplin?"
PHUONG PHIEU DIEU u
PHUONG h 7oo
Phuong it's coal mines of Kentucky and she's looking for a home not he,but I understand Janis had to reword that but Kris was singing not her and if you didn't know Kris wrote that song.
Janis sang an awesome version, have you heard Pink sing this song?
Jewel has the voice of angels! She not only sounds great, her obvious respect & love for Kris is wonderful to behold.
Amen. I agree
she is a very rare and special person
I was thinking "I know her, I know her" .... that's who it is, she is definitely special
This just has to be the best ever version of this wonderfully atmospheric song. Fab stuff and so sad that we are losing touch with it all.
RIP Kris you.re. a legend of country music now. that you are gone we still have you in our hearts 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
OMG, when Charles Kelley has his solo, I(taking nothing away fron KK) love his voice and I hit replay for this portion of the video.
You got that right miss trish!
Is he the big guy in the background? He is in a number of KK songs, but I don’t know who he is or what is his story.
@Charles, he's a part of Lady Antebellum.
Nema bolje verzije.BRAVO,BRAVO i jos jednom perfekt.Pozdrav svima iz Sombora
One of the best ever written..........great performance
Pauline O'Donnell i think Chris is a very good singer
Kris kristofferson : The greatest ! And "me and bobby mcgee" the most beautiful songs !

Greetings from IRELAND 😉 salamat for this gem. ..
Awesome, this man is for me the greatest songwrither..!!
+RICKY KROL ,
It's great, but forgive me, the best is called Bob Dylan
+Nelson Montanha , not for me that Kris Kristofferson and always will be for me.!!
+Nelson Montanha Bob Dylan for sure is great, but forgive me, I'm with Ricky, to me Kris is the best ever ☺
+biggestkkfan OK! I accept!
Still listening November 2019.
I remember having an 8 track tape in the 1975 time era of his greatest hits and a 1968 VW Beetle.
probably one of the top 100 most played, covered and most successful songs the last century
RIP Kris, thanks for bringing me the joy of Your music.
Thank you Kris for the immeasurable contribution you've made to my life.
Kris and the young team, just fantastic highlights what music is all about... There are no "I" people here...
