I also came here as my dad recently passed this weekend, and he watched westerns all day everyday and loved his country music. Miss my dad and best friend. 5/25/2024.

There are still good musicians. They are just mostly obscure. These guys benefited from the Folk Revival back in the 1960s. No-one wants folk music today, but that doesn't mean there aren't many very excellent, unheard of bands doing wonderful stuff.

I boo-Booed, I thought Ghost Riders was written in 1946, turns out it was finished in 1948. Recording of turned out in 1949. Burl Ives did one in 1949. Short while before I was born. To this song is one of the best ever written. I was so interged about Stan Jones, I went on Amazon, got a book about him, very interesting man. Got a CD of over 30 Artist singing Ghost Riders in The Sky. Even Tom Jones sang this song on a 1960s Country Album, he did. Song has got a great history. Done by so many, over 100, great singers. 👍This is based on a 1920s Legend by a man Capp Watts, in southern Arizona, near Mexico Border..Stan Jones was a boy when Capp Watts told him the Ghost Riders. Capp Watts died in 1932. When Stan Jones was 18 riding in Sulphur Springs Valley, Big Thunderstorm and Stan Jones visualized these Ghost Riders chasing these Red Eyed Cows in the Clouds. In 1946 Stan Jones started Writing Ghost Riders in the Sky finished it in 1948. On his sheet music he Wrote Riders in the Sky (A Cowboy Legend). The Legend of Ghost Riders started in Texas in 1889, based, on a factial Legend. There are 2 Utube Videos, about what happened in 1889, one i read today. A very tragic story. My grandfather was a cowboy before WWI, he taught this song to my Dad who sang it to us kids as he milked the cows by hand. At 93 Dad is still on that farm and can still sing this.

Capp Watts died in 1932. When Stan Jones was 18 riding in Sulphur Springs Valley, Big Thunderstorm and Stan Jones visualized these Ghost Riders chasing these Red Eyed Cows in the Clouds. In 1946 Stan Jones started Writing Ghost Riders in the Sky finished it in 1948. On his sheet music he Wrote Riders in the Sky (A Cowboy Legend). The Legend of Ghost Riders started in Texas in 1889, based, on a factial Legend. There are 2 Utube Videos, about what happened in 1889, one i read today. A very tragic story. My grandfather was a cowboy before WWI, he taught this song to my Dad who sang it to us kids as he milked the cows by hand. At 93 Dad is still on that farm and can still sing this.
