    I just changed my fluid, filter and installed a pan with a drain. Didn't have to remove the shift linkage, just cocked it down to the right then back to the left, came right out.

    I just did this service on my 4L60E in my 2003 Chevy S10 and I did not have to worry about that shift cable bracket at all. I just took the nut off the shift shaft and pulled it away that way. The bracket was not in the way in any shape or form.

    Before you remove the transmission from the vehicle, break open a cooler line and start the engine. It'll pump itself right out. Shut it off when it sputters. No muss, no fuss when you remove the pan.

    If you install a new filter seal, leave it 2mm proud so the next time, it's easy to get a screwdriver under it to pry it out.

    Hi Robert...like your "to the point style" and articulate descriptions (new subscriber here 2004 Suburban 2500 100K miles X FBI vehicle) 4L60E...OK it shifts fine for first 30 minutes then starts hard shifting in 1/2 2/3 occasionally 3/4.
    My idea is to buy all shift solenoids and have fluid change and replace them...what else should I do at the time...fluid level is perfect. Ideas Comments?

    I would NOT remove the shifter cable from the shift arm; that ball socket does not last doing it that way. remove the 15mm nut and take the shifter arm off the shaft. I've had shift cables come off the ball socket after one or two of those removal/reinstalls.

    There is no need to torque the pan bolts in any particular pattern. There's literally zero pressure on that pan. Just make sure the final torque spec you use is correct so you don't warp the pan.

    Hi Robert I rebuilt my 94 4l60e almost a year ago on my camaro and was working great no leaks (my first transmission rebuild ever) I only had like 500 miles on it, I only use the car some weekends. Thing is a couple weeks ago I went on a 40 mile trip and the transmission cooler failed, huge leak I dont know at what point in the trip it happened but when I got home it was shifting weird and had very slow reverse, very low on fluod. I replaced the cooler and refilling I accidentally overfilled the transmission but didn't notice it. Then I went to a test drive for like 6-8 miles and the transmission was working good just a bit harsh on the 1-2 shift but felt back to normal. I noticed the fluid level and took some fluid out to get it to the correct level. Thing is now it has a leak which seems to be from the pump seal, do you guys think that the low fluid due to the cooler leak caused the torque converter to overheat and damaged the seal? I don't really know cause I need to take the converter cover out to really see what's happening but the fluid it's coming from that area for sure and I think it's the only place it can leak but I might be wrong

    Can the computer cause a newly rebuilt 4160E to downshift? The old transmission did the same thing. Or, could it be wheel speed sensors...or something else?

    Won't be long now. I gotta swap in a 400th in place of my 4l60. I would just leave it because 400th is just a beast, but for now it is just going to be a back up until I can get a chance to rebuild the 4l60. Ya know I forgot to buy the steels module for the new clutches. The trans still runs and drives. Do you think reusing the steels would be a issue. Unless they are thin or scorched and warped it don't seem like it would be a big issue. Maybe just mic the and send if they are in spec.

    Whats the best pan gasket to use, i put a cork gasket on my 4l60e, and it seeps and leakkes all the wau around??

    • @SouthpawAutoworks
      @SouthpawAutoworks  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I like the fiber. Pan may be warped. You can lay it upside down on a known flat surface to check it. Also good to check the bolt holes for "dome-ing". Of course, removing all gasket material from both the pan and the trans case, is a must.

      There are two different generations of EPC solenoid. The main difference lies in the electrical connector (Delphi vs Borg Warner). You may want to see what you currently have installed, before ordering a replacement.
