    The best video by far on how to do a transmission fluid change.

  • @funlife51
    @funlife51 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Another helpful solution to keeping your fluid changed is to obtain a hand vacuum pump , Northern tool has one, and remove the fluid from the dipstick tube.
    Just place tubing that will reach the bottom of the pan and pump until no fluid comes out... then refill with fresh fluid .. drive a few hundred miles and repeat the process. Valvoline max life fully synthetic fluid works well.
    You can easily do this procedure in your driveway and repeat as often as desired.
    Your transmission will thank you with smooth shifting and a longer life.

    I have a 1995 Chevy K 1500 and only changed the fluid 2 time in 217,000 miles and she is now getting rebuilt for $2,500. She’s worth it considering the price of new trucks that loose value everyday. Love my old truck.

    Solid video amigo. 16 bolts and square pan for the 4L60E and 17 bolts with 2 rounded corners in the back section for the 4L80E. Figured it out quickly when I climbed underneath my 1994 K2500 6.5TD and realized I had accidentally ordered the wrong filter. :) Good video!

    After owning our 2000 gmc jimmy for 12 years and only putting on 40,000 km.( Yes Im Candian. ) Having not driven it for 6 years and parked in our covered garage we decided to sell it. We had it inspected. The inspection said that we had a leak in the seal to the transfer case and it was overfull. There was not one spec of oil on our garage floor in 6 years. So I started researching videos. I came across yours and watched it many times. Even though we couldn't find a leak we decided to go ahead and change everything just like your video showed. If not for your video and step by step instructions i don't think we could have done it ourselves. Was there really a leak i don't know, we couldn't find one. But we now know if we ever again have to change the transmission fluid we can do it. Thank you so very much.

Where the shifter is, I was able to just lower & slide the lip of pan past that... You have GREAT content...

    I never knew there was a seal removal tool like that. My old seal was hardened from age; it didn't come out in one piece. I had to use picks and screwdrivers to dig out all the small pieces. My new seal looked different, and it was a genuine GM part. I guess either style does the same job.

    This is the best video on this topic that I’ve found on TH-cam and I’ve watched probably 20 videos on transmission fluid changes. Excellent job describing how to replace the filter. I didn’t even know what transmission I have until I saw this. I have a 98 k1500 z71 extended cab truck. Any idea how many quarts of fluid is the correct capacity? I can pull the pan and drain it and refill the same amount but I want to make sure it has the correct amount too. Just got the truck a few weeks ago. Not sure if the transmission has ever been done before!

    Great video gives me a good idea on what i need to do with my 97 silverado. Shes slipping and i ran into a 30 year transmission mechanic who mentioned to me similar to what you said. To drain the pan and use half of the old and half new fluid.
    What are your thoughts on this?
    I plan on doing what you did...put the old fluid into a 5qt jug to see how much was drained and then add new fluid accordingly

    Thanks for posting this video. I am getting ready to change the filter on my 2001 Silverado and I am glad I saw this. When ordering a replacement filter from RockAuto I saw that there are different filters for the 4L60E transmission depending if it has a deep or shallow pan. How do you know what depth pan you have for ordering the filter? Also my transmission has a built in drain plug which makes draining the oil easier. Finally in my owners manual they only recommend changing the transmission fluid every 100,000 miles, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt to do it more often.

    just did this yesterday on my tahoe. nice job on video but why didn't ya clean trans mating surface before installing pan? you cleaned pan but trans side still showed old gasket material. pretty easy to overlook stuff. i changed pan to one that has a drain plug. i forgot to move my magnet from old pan to new one. so i will be doing this again pretty soon.

    You can also disconnect the cooler line start the truck and it will pump out all the fluid...as long as your quick on the key or have someone on the key while you watch the hose no risk of running the pump dry
