I watched this movie by chance on one of my sleepless nights on cable 20 years ago. Ever since TH-cam going giant I've been looking for this movie. I couldn't remember the name, the coach, I just searched countless times English movie about the world cup, and this movie refused to show, to the point I actually started doubting that I ever watched such movie on cable once. Exactly, I've always said that Mike Bassett is a film FOR genuine football fans, it's got all the nuances and its perfect satire. Rubbish like 'Footballers Wives', 'Dream Team' and 'Goal' were just made to capitalize on the tabloid glitz and glamour, they have no appeal to actual football fans.

This is one of the most positive, upbeat films I have ever seen. Mike Bassett believes in himself and the players he picks. I watch it on a regular basis. It's a feelgood film.
@Brian Mason If I remember correctly Bassett had an assistant who just agreed with everything. Just like Lawrie Mcmenemy in the Graham Taylor documentary
