My opinion is that the scattergun is more satisfying. It's more satisfying to hit a couple fat meatshots than to empty an entire clip (if not more) into an enemy 🤔

yeah, IMO tf2 has the gold standard when it comes to fun and skill based weapons, its shotguns really are something, as well as the rocket launcher and class designs in general, no other fps really compares to it in terms of design

Not only that, but in my 100% coverage math of Tracer vs Scout, Scout out damaged tracer in every setting. Besides that, I've done a mock battle for Scout and Tracer fueled by real numbers and ability timings and: Scout either, 1. kills tracer before she can shoot because she blink dodges his first three shots and then gets two shot at any range. 2. kills tracer before she can shoot because she blink dodges his first three shots and then recalls for 2 whole seconds, giving scout a FULL CLIP and leaving her with no defenses to get two shot at any range, 3. kills tracer after getting dropped to half health because she blink dodges his first three shots and then shoots, gets shot, recalls for 2 whole seconds, giving scout a FULL CLIP and leaving her with no defenses to get two shot at any range, meanwhile her damage can't even scratch scout at medium range. 4. or, take any of those situations, give both characters every single legal buff in the game, and Scout kills Tracer in one shot instead of two, at any range. Yes, Tracer could theoretically deal all of Scout's HP in half a second, but at the same time, it would take the full half second. Meanwhile Scout's scattergun would take a single shot, leaving Scout the winner if played by the milli-second.

I didn’t look at the word “hero” in Tracer’s wiki. I knew it was her wiki because the second one is extremely detailed, which the TF2 wiki tends to make their sentences extremely detailed as possible.

Tf2 had stun mechanics before, but valve pretty much removed it since the entire community and competitive plays cried for being unfair and replace scouts sandman stun with a slow and it can be easily countered by strafing. The only way to get stun is by the huntsman arrow taunt or the heavy's mittens, even then it's just a force taunt.
@@2themax351 Organ Grinder (Gunslinger taunt) and Spinal Tap (Ubersaw taunt) also stun. The Mittens and Huntsman are by far the most useful though in terms of their stun mechanic though, because you can stuff an entire uber if you're in the right place at the right time.
@@2themax351 I think airblast got changed though, and rocket surfing is a thing. I was more referring to scorch shot, force of nature like you said, and other weapon specific knockbacks.

I think I would give it to sombra, even though she doesn’t have the ability to one shot anything with a backstab. She has way more mobility and has infinite stealth. Sombra’s hacking is much more applicable than spy’s sapper but that’s mostly due to the fundamental differences in the games. Sombra doesn’t have disguises but in a 6v6 format, it would be almost useless compared to the casual pubs in tf2. But tbh I’m prob biased because I suck at spy

Heavy would probably fucking destroy bastion if Toofty uses the health conversion thing. He deals more damage normally already, and has the same health. The scaling system would give him 918 dps and 510 hp in Overwatch terms. Which honestly, I think that's just a completely arbitrary thing. There's a million ways you could try to scale TF2's hp system to Overwatch and it'll never completely work. It seems like it's just unnecessarily buffing TF2. You're telling me a squishy class in TF2 is a little tougher than your average Hero in Overwatch? Personally I'd just compare their raw numbers. They're close enough already. I think the whole conversion thing comes from the fact that Overwatch generally has larger numbers.
Despite tracer “winning” this fight, it an actual 1v1 perspective, scout can one shot tracer,has an array of weapons (most one shot tracer) and scout is also faster. Also, blinking can help avoid bullets, but as a wise man once said: “I have the high ground!” Therefore, since scout has the faster speed and the high ground, he would be much harder to hit while he would only need to get up close for a one-shot kill.
I have a friend who is a tracer main, not super familiar with tf2 but wanted to try it out with us once. She joined me and my friends casual party and she completely outperformed all of us by a pretty significant margin, including the actual scout main of our party
If Overwatch characters get to have headshots (crit damage), then I feel that TF2 characters should have random crits calculated as well, using the chance of getting one. Eg if it's one random crit in 30 shots, then 29 * 105 + 1 * 315 (or whatever crit is) divided by 30. Count crits for both classes or neither, in my opinion.

BOTH GAMES ARE GOOD AND BOTH GAMES WILL SUCCEED! overwatch is not "dieing" it's still going very strong and already has a sequel in the works, and yes, there are flaws, but i don't think tf2 is exactly perfect either and tf2 is growing, growing a ton and is almost at csgo levels of growing but it's being halted by its lack of dev and bot crisis right now also, fun fact: most tf2 players that hate on overwatch have never actually played it once and don't have an exact reason to form an honest opinion on it and jumped on the hate train like overwatch was the next hunt down the freeman
@@jockeyfield1954 nah. Most of them just got bored of overwatch in like 100 hrs then went back and played tf2 for another 1000. Overwatch was fun, but feels like so much wasted potential. Blizzard never had a clear idea what they wanted to make.

One thing I'm surprised you didn't mention is burst damage! If there was a glass wall between the two that was suddenly lowered and they started shooting at the same time, Tracer would die instantly from a single meatshot before she could lower Scout down with a hail of bullets.
Scout before tracer any time... Scout feels like the ultimate freedom of movement even compared to tracer... yes... blink is good,but you have no recharge time for double jump,or the scouts speed...
maybe its just me but the stickybomb launcher would probably cause a landslide victory given the demos two primaries the biggest advantage junkrat has is no self blast damage but the demo can use self damage to effectively cannon or pill jump also demoknight leads to a weird matchup

@@markfungus Yeah, junk mine can be chain to and use in different ways like side mine, triple mine etc. but is nothing compared to demo sticky jump. Dude, if you put soldier or demo in overwatch they will be so fucking broken with there mobility. Still love both game and want to see demo vs junk.
@@jspark8990 junkrat has a pretty good combo that can oneshot most classes pretty easily almost as fast as it takes to set up sticky bombs, so it's not as unbalanced. also, i think demoknight could count as it's own class and be compared to doomfist or genji instead.
Some interesting notes to consider in a theoretical duel between these two characters. With their stats equalized to TF2 standards. Scout can take out Tracer with a single meatshot, with considerable margin for error in accuracy and distance. Funny enough he can take out 200hp OW characters pretty easy too with two shots. as one meatshot would bring them down to 30-ish hp by Overwatch standards. Tracer can one-mag him with her pistols if up close with margin for error if she lands any headshots. Her time-reversal ability also restores health and repositions her, so in a 1v1 she COULD make her effective HP close to double what it is normally. Taking into account that Tracer is slower and has less verticality though. You'd probably want to bet on Scout in a deathmatch between these two characters by similarly skilled players. Scout can instagib her the moment he's in effective range, and can do it before she can finish doing damage or reverse time.
Someone should use all this math together and make a mod where scout and tracer can duel. Take a top scout player and a top tracer. That would be sick.
Actually, check out my reply to Toofty's comment. Beyond that, all that would happen, is Scout would insta kill Tracer every time. Reason being, Tracer MUST be point blank to deal any sort of damage, and while point blank, scout does 105 damage per shot, which occurs every half second, within a tenth of a second of firing, meanwhile Tracer has 88 HP. Tracer? A full second for a full clip, which only kills Scout if she gets headshots.
Beyond that, Tracer got her DPS doubled in the DPS comparisons in the video. If she got crits, Scout should have as well. 300% damage too big? Mini crits instead. Scout still is better. Go check out my reply to Toofty's comment, I did actual math that's unbiased.
In Tracer's DPS, you are assuming she does headshot damage, which in practice isn't consistent. If you are going to use her MAX potential damage, you'd have to use the Scout's as well, which would be under the effects of Crits.
Gotta love how supernatural TF2's characters are: all of them are unaffected by headshots unless its sniper or amby, can tank rockets and live, are healed more effectively from sandvichs then first aid. Hell scout jumps off the air molecules like a Jedi from Lego Star Wars and knocks people across the map with a baseball bat or if thats not enough you can just, you know do the very normal thing of strapping a soda to a shotgun with tape, turn it purple, pull out funny wing pistol then congratulations you can now basically jump anywhere because you can now jump 5 times and higher each time. With a can of soda, a shotgun, pistol, tape and a dream scout can jump from the start of the payload cart tracks to the top of the tower on hightower. Spy can fool automated sentry guns with a sheet of paper and some smoke. The most normal characters are probably pyro and sniper you know the mute with level 20 schizophrenia and the Piss Ninja.
I think DPS and sustained DPS should both be included, since you don't just sit there and fire all of your clip and reload over and over as these classes. You're more hit & run, and fire maybe all of your clip plus one or two shots and get outta there.
2:01 I personally think that the old HP based on "normal health" made more sense. The high health of the tank characters in Overwatch skews the average such that the resulting number (288) isn't representative of any character. Additionally, this will change with every new hero added making the videos out of date, AND with every time a balance update changes a hero's HP pool (McCree and Symmetra, used to have 200 health but now have 225. Törbjorn used to have 200 but now has 250, Widowmaker used to have 200 but now has 175, and Orisa used to have 400 but now has 450). 125/200 will never change and is simpler to work with. Also, when calculating the Scout's speed, he actually moves at a perfect 400 hu/s. That 133% number is derived from 400/300 and rounded down.
@@algotkristoffersson15 The Percent number is derived from the class's speed as compared to the normal movement speed, 300 hammer units per second. The TF2 wiki lists the speed of a class both in percent and in hammer units per second.

@@algotkristoffersson15 Percent is useful for explaining movement speed to players, as "33% faster than the Engineer" is easier to understand than "400 hammer units per second". The reason "Hammer units" are called such because they are the unit of distance in the Hammer Editor (which is used to make maps for Source games). Hammer units aren't based on any real unit of measurement, so any game designer working in the source engine can choose to scale their game as they wish - in Half-Life 2 one Hammer unit is equivalent to one inch, while in TF2 one Hammer unit is equivalent to 0.75 inches.
I knew which quote was from which character's wiki as Scout's said class and Tracer's said hero. Nobody is calling scout a hero and most people wouldn't call Tracer a class.

Yay new toofty vid I’ve been a fan sense your last vid, you videos have good editing, good music, and they are very entertaining. Thank you for this masterpiece.
I think this is interesting, but something you have to take into account for these 'hit-and-run' is that they are quite literally, supposed to hit and run. The Scout spends much less time actually delivering the damage compared to Tracer. You can see this with other pick classes in TF2 as well. For example, the Spy spends ages cloaking, disguising and sneaking around but only takes a few seconds to backstab his opponent. Since Tracer has to always be shooting her opponent to get a higher 'effective DPS', while the Scout can shoot and get away to reload, making him more effective in short bursts. There's a reason why the Heavy, the biggest frontline class in the game, has a weapon that doesn't need to reload. It's because he's always on the front lines, always fighting someone. In summary, Tracer needs to be always shooting someone to do better damage, but the Scout can take time to reload while running away. Thanks for reading my spiel.
Something that irked me about this video is that you included the reload time in the dps calculation. I feel this goes against the "Hit & Run" playstyle that these two promote. If a scout fires all six shots and his opponent isn't dead, he isn't going to reload and continue fighting, he's gonna get tf outta there and reload in a safe spot, then run back in with all 6 shots ready. So I don't think it was the right call to include reload times in the calculations.
I disagree. Reload times are important for DPS calculations because it's specifically "sustained DPS." IE, if you're in MvM, shooting a tank at point blank with no upgrades, you'll be doing effectively 100 damage for every second you're on the tank.

Yup, it also really emphasizes the need to train your accuracy and play the up-close role with a big risk/reward factor. Also, he's got hand wraps.

I didn’t look at the word “hero” in Tracer’s wiki. I knew it was her wiki because the second one is extremely detailed, which the TF2 wiki tends to make their sentences extremely detailed as possible.

Tracer's a more efficient DPS in general, but there is one thing OW has that wasn't exactly mentioned - stun and crowd control effects.
Tf2 had stun mechanics before, but valve pretty much removed it since the entire community and competitive plays cried for being unfair and replace scouts sandman stun with a slow and it can be easily countered by strafing. The only way to get stun is by the huntsman arrow taunt or the heavy's mittens, even then it's just a force taunt.
@@2themax351 Organ Grinder (Gunslinger taunt) and Spinal Tap (Ubersaw taunt) also stun.
The Mittens and Huntsman are by far the most useful though in terms of their stun mechanic though, because you can stuff an entire uber if you're in the right place at the right time.

I think I would give it to sombra, even though she doesn’t have the ability to one shot anything with a backstab. She has way more mobility and has infinite stealth. Sombra’s hacking is much more applicable than spy’s sapper but that’s mostly due to the fundamental differences in the games. Sombra doesn’t have disguises but in a 6v6 format, it would be almost useless compared to the casual pubs in tf2.

Which honestly, I think that's just a completely arbitrary thing. There's a million ways you could try to scale TF2's hp system to Overwatch and it'll never completely work. It seems like it's just unnecessarily buffing TF2. You're telling me a squishy class in TF2 is a little tougher than your average Hero in Overwatch?
Personally I'd just compare their raw numbers. They're close enough already. I think the whole conversion thing comes from the fact that Overwatch generally has larger numbers.

Also, blinking can help avoid bullets, but as a wise man once said: “I have the high ground!” Therefore, since scout has the faster speed and the high ground, he would be much harder to hit while he would only need to get up close for a one-shot kill.

If Overwatch characters get to have headshots (crit damage), then I feel that TF2 characters should have random crits calculated as well, using the chance of getting one. Eg if it's one random crit in 30 shots, then 29 * 105 + 1 * 315 (or whatever crit is) divided by 30. Count crits for both classes or neither, in my opinion.

Some interesting notes to consider in a theoretical duel between these two characters.
With their stats equalized to TF2 standards. Scout can take out Tracer with a single meatshot, with considerable margin for error in accuracy and distance. Funny enough he can take out 200hp OW characters pretty easy too with two shots. as one meatshot would bring them down to 30-ish hp by Overwatch standards.
Tracer can one-mag him with her pistols if up close with margin for error if she lands any headshots. Her time-reversal ability also restores health and repositions her, so in a 1v1 she COULD make her effective HP close to double what it is normally.
Taking into account that Tracer is slower and has less verticality though. You'd probably want to bet on Scout in a deathmatch between these two characters by similarly skilled players. Scout can instagib her the moment he's in effective range, and can do it before she can finish doing damage or reverse time.

Actually, check out my reply to Toofty's comment. Beyond that, all that would happen, is Scout would insta kill Tracer every time. Reason being, Tracer MUST be point blank to deal any sort of damage, and while point blank, scout does 105 damage per shot, which occurs every half second, within a tenth of a second of firing, meanwhile Tracer has 88 HP. Tracer? A full second for a full clip, which only kills Scout if she gets headshots.
Scout can beat people with a fish. Tracer does not have a fish. Is the winner not obvious?
Beyond that, Tracer got her DPS doubled in the DPS comparisons in the video. If she got crits, Scout should have as well. 300% damage too big? Mini crits instead. Scout still is better. Go check out my reply to Toofty's comment, I did actual math that's unbiased.

In Tracer's DPS, you are assuming she does headshot damage, which in practice isn't consistent. If you are going to use her MAX potential damage, you'd have to use the Scout's as well, which would be under the effects of Crits.
Gotta love how supernatural TF2's characters are: all of them are unaffected by headshots unless its sniper or amby, can tank rockets and live, are healed more effectively from sandvichs then first aid. Hell scout jumps off the air molecules like a Jedi from Lego Star Wars and knocks people across the map with a baseball bat or if thats not enough you can just, you know do the very normal thing of strapping a soda to a shotgun with tape, turn it purple, pull out funny wing pistol then congratulations you can now basically jump anywhere because you can now jump 5 times and higher each time. With a can of soda, a shotgun, pistol, tape and a dream scout can jump from the start of the payload cart tracks to the top of the tower on hightower. Spy can fool automated sentry guns with a sheet of paper and some smoke. The most normal characters are probably pyro and sniper you know the mute with level 20 schizophrenia and the Piss Ninja.

I think DPS and sustained DPS should both be included, since you don't just sit there and fire all of your clip and reload over and over as these classes. You're more hit & run, and fire maybe all of your clip plus one or two shots and get outta there.

2:01 I personally think that the old HP based on "normal health" made more sense. The high health of the tank characters in Overwatch skews the average such that the resulting number (288) isn't representative of any character. Additionally, this will change with every new hero added making the videos out of date, AND with every time a balance update changes a hero's HP pool (McCree and Symmetra, used to have 200 health but now have 225. Törbjorn used to have 200 but now has 250, Widowmaker used to have 200 but now has 175, and Orisa used to have 400 but now has 450). 125/200 will never change and is simpler to work with.
Also, when calculating the Scout's speed, he actually moves at a perfect 400 hu/s. That 133% number is derived from 400/300 and rounded down.
If his speed is in hammer units why is it then listed in percent?

Yay new toofty vid I’ve been a fan sense your last vid, you videos have good editing, good music, and they are very entertaining. Thank you for this masterpiece.
I think this is interesting, but something you have to take into account for these 'hit-and-run' is that they are quite literally, supposed to hit and run. The Scout spends much less time actually delivering the damage compared to Tracer. You can see this with other pick classes in TF2 as well. For example, the Spy spends ages cloaking, disguising and sneaking around but only takes a few seconds to backstab his opponent. Since Tracer has to always be shooting her opponent to get a higher 'effective DPS', while the Scout can shoot and get away to reload, making him more effective in short bursts. There's a reason why the Heavy, the biggest frontline class in the game, has a weapon that doesn't need to reload. It's because he's always on the front lines, always fighting someone.
In summary, Tracer needs to be always shooting someone to do better damage, but the Scout can take time to reload while running away. Thanks for reading my spiel.

Something that irked me about this video is that you included the reload time in the dps calculation. I feel this goes against the "Hit & Run" playstyle that these two promote.
If a scout fires all six shots and his opponent isn't dead, he isn't going to reload and continue fighting, he's gonna get tf outta there and reload in a safe spot, then run back in with all 6 shots ready. So I don't think it was the right call to include reload times in the calculations.

I disagree. Reload times are important for DPS calculations because it's specifically "sustained DPS." IE, if you're in MvM, shooting a tank at point blank with no upgrades, you'll be doing effectively 100 damage for every second you're on the tank.
