Really underestimating the sheer versatility and movement potential of the Winger's higher jump height there. The damage bonus is just the cherry on top. I agree with ultimately choosing between stock and the PBPP, since the Winger is somewhat situational (depends on the map how useful it is), but in a situation where it is useful boy oh boy does it deliver. You can basically go anywhere you want on the map. So many new and unexpected flank routes open up, and if you ever get into a bad situation you can often just jump away to safety somewhere. It's really underrated.
I’m glad people are starting to say that the wrap assassin is somewhat decent, it’s not great but it’s certainly not useless and certainly more useful than the sandman
The main issue with the wrap assassin has nothing to do with its stats. A lot of maps have areas an colliders where your balls will just instantly shatter, making them effectively useless at best and actually hitting you for self bleed instead at worst.
@@SethAbercromby oh I am well aware, the things like badwater last and stuff like Hightower’s tower are real pains but if you don’t have to deal with it is a good option
Yes, it may not be the best one out there, but it's certainly more than usable, due to the alt fire. It's actually more like a ranged weapon than a melee.
Personally, I can't imagine not playing with the winger. I'm addicted to the slightly extra mobility. And I love using the wrap assassin as my melee. Although, boston is always my backup
Love to do the fan o war winger combo, I know its not the best strat, but its fun af And yeah Im so used to the extra mobility, when I switch to an other secondary it feels like I play a class that isnt scout lol
@Jakal-lantern Absolutely agree on that. The winger is one of the most fun weapons in TF2. Also, being able to do 60 damage across the map with the wrap assassin is insane. Definately one of the best scout loadouts.(typo edit)
There’s a script you can use for the winger which automatically switches to the winger for like 0.12 seconds or whatever when u double jump to achieve the bigger jump at all times. Pretty Op
I love the soda popper even without the hype meter gimmick. Its potential for hit-and-run burst damage is simply fantastic. Perhaps it's not quite as consistent on high health classes, but you can often use the pocket pistol to mop up any remaining HP.

I feel like the Shortstop should go up a level because in the right hands it can be devastating, its also pretty good if you combine it with the criti-cola, otherwise everything seems good!
Shortstop + crit-a-cola has been my go-to combo for quite a while now, the shortstop is basically a FoN scattergun hybrid, which is lovely for me because I hate the abysmal mag size of the FoN
Sun on a Stick is generally bad, but it's because of its shitty damage and rare upside. However, in HL or Pubs in general (since when do you find a game WITHOUT a Pyro), it's pretty much good for survivability. Pyro is a Scout's soft counter, so having this, though far from being a great option, is an option to have
@@prediculous8059 "pyro is a scout soft counter" man thats the words of someone that only sees scout getting killed by flare gun combos, exp scouts not only beat pyros but also truly counter them since scout can always stay away from pyro effective range till he pulls out his seccondary and make himself vulnerable to free meatshots( unless he uses the shotgun or panic attack) the only thing that pyro can do to kill scout is using airblast to ambush scout into corners besides that i agree the sun on a stick can be usefull to avoid fire dmg
I like the Winger. It's low clip makes you use the scattergun more, which is a great playstyle, and it works as an excellent finisher and chip damage. The mobility is also good on SOME maps...
the wrap assassin is actually kinda good! apparently from testing, if the ball has been in the air for 1 second its a 100% crit which is really good for baby face blaster and negating scout's one downside which is long-range combat
my loadout is Scattergun, Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol, and Atomizer. I often switch the stock Scattergun with the Force-A-Nature, but in a lot of situations I highly value the scattergun's increased number of shots. I only use Force-A-Nature when my team is significantly winning/guaranteed to win. The Force-A-Nature also has an insanely good sound that, even if it was bad, I'd still use it just because the sound is so cathartic to me. While the PBPP has a smaller clip, I love how it can give you a slight health boost. Absolutely sick. And like you said, the faster shooting speed is HUGE. I'm so glad it was the first gun I unlocked when playing the game, never going back to stock pistol as Scout ever again. Atomizer... it's a level 10 bat, and boy have I died to it so many times because of that dang triple jump. super sick. I'm so lucky to have unlocked so many good items and haven't bought anything (atomizer, PBPP, widowmaker, eureka effect, etc.). great video, glad I'm playing with the best loadout ever!!
The flying guillotine is highly underrated, from my experience it's a really good counter for snipers. All around just a great combo with the scattergun.
The winger is extremely underrated in my opinion, the extra jump height might sound like a meh upside but I've used it for a long time now and you'll be surprised what sort of places you can get up to and really trip people up during gunfights
Hey Toofty, have you thought of making a loadout series where you discuss what’re the best loadouts for each class based on 4 factors: Slot A: General/Most reliable Slot B: Sidegrade loadouts for certain maps Slot C: Alternative playstle Slot D: Wild Card (or a slot that can be used for whatever, i.e, MVM loadout, extra Alt playstyle, etc) Just something to think about is all
In MVM,milk FOW and either stock for consistant damage, shortstop if you wanna play passive and the map has putfalls/the bots get too close to the bomb or soda poper/FAN for mobility, max damage up close and the FAN for that knokback like the shortstop.
@@davitdavid7165 popper, Fan or shortstop are the best Shortstop can be useful if you don't have a Pyro (or you have a phlog Pyro) if you have an airblast Pyro, shortstop is pretty bad. Fan can be useful without a Pyro, and to pick money too. Popper is about mobility and money ( or mad milk with fan of war, with the speed and jump height upgrade)
I personally always use the wrap assassin, it's perfect for engaging and disengaging fights, plus it allows the scout to deal decent damage at medium to long range.
Hey, I'd like to mention my load out. Baby faces, pocket pistol, and wrap assassin. The pistol covers you on getaways if you get hit, allowing you to speed up and also heal, and the wrap assassin is a good start to building up your boost, allowing you to exponentially increase your speed and make you a more mobile target over time. The baby faces has less capacity, but encourages a more aggressive playstyle. I loved your load out and I'm gonna try it right now!
In my experience, the Shortstop is actually really good for a begginning scout. To be good with the Shortstop, you basically need to have good tracking, and with its absurdly tight spread, it can almost invalidate random bullet spread.
I recently switched from stock to Shortstop and found i really enjoy using it. I also like the Back Scatter for ambushing enemies (altho you can do so with any other Scout primary).
The baby faces blaster should never be used competitively but if you pair it with the wrap assassin and the flying guillotine its soooooooooo much fun.
i can agree the set is pretty decent. with using the bleed weapons at the start of a fight, it refunds boost if you get hit a bit. i still dont really like it since newer players that arnt the best at dodging and hitting shots so getting that two hits at the start can be a struggle for them. i think that there should be a small buff to the cleaver and wrap assassin to grant a mini crit or slightly more damage since all you get right now from hitting a cleaver and ball is like 50 damage (havent played tf2 in a bit so i dont remember) and 8 damage a second (i think its a second, once again, dont remember) or some sort of primary boost buff (like granting the bfb 25% more charge or granting the soda popper full charge. just an example)
honestly i think you underestimated the winger, the jump height is doubled thanks to jumping twice allowing you to (with considerable map knowledge) get to very good hiding spots and more freely traverse the map, but otherwise i agree with your final loadout
it's also worth noting that the soda popper doesn't have the knock back on shots, meaning you don't knock your opponent away from your second shot and can do more damage that way too
I feel like the backscatter is criminally underrated... I used it a lot when I was a newer player I couldn't aim, the less accurate spread was amazing and mini crits were good too. I never was effected by the smaller clip because you usually kill your target with a minicrit meat shot.
Also shorstop is also underrated its practically the best cause u never gonna get that close and come back in one piece especially if u are new to the scout also other guns are banned cause force nature could be devastating in cordinated team because of the callout also winger is somewhat becoming a meta and soda poper give a scout straight edge over other scout due to faster firing speed same goes for force of nature
It's because pretty much anything the backscatter does the stock scattergun can do just as fine. Sure you don't get mini crits but you do get 2 extra shots, which for scout can mean all the difference between whether or not you finish off that duel with the other Scout
I know it sounds weird but one of my favorite loadout is Shortstop, mad milk and Fan O'War But the loadout that use Toofty is my second favorite loadout
@TotallyNotMaxYT Cast some holy water on it XD It's not a loadout to do serious work with but I love it nontheless because it's such a crappy loadout XD
The Candy Cane I would probably put between B and A, it gets better the better the player is more than any weapon on Scout, possibly in the game. It pairs well with the Winger and Soda Popper because those two items give you mobility, making it easier to dodge explosives
It's certainly more viable than the sadman. I would put the sadman in an easy E tier just because the health tradeoff for a mechanic that barely works and is useless most of the time isn't worth it. Probably the only melee worse than stock.
Same lets be honest the best secondary for scout are all of the pistols the other ones are either really situational or totally uselles but the pistols are really good all 3 are amazing
I just like the long distance damage the winger gives over the other pistols Sure if you miss your damage falls off quicker but you also need to hit less shots.
My though process is: the winger does what the atomizer does even better and you can actually fight back while using it, so, how's this a inferior secondary to other pistols in any shape or form?
My original scout loadout was scattergun, winger, and wrap assassin. The extra jump high comes in clutch. But then I realized I suck at track aiming, so my new loadout is Scattergun, guillotine, and atomizer. I still get the extra mobility, but this time I have better aim with my secondary since I mainly play projectile classes.
10:34 Not just that, but the slowdown doesn't work half the time as you can just strafe to cancel the slower speed. It's a bug that needs to be fixed, but us most likely not going to.
Even if the bug gets fixed, the slowdown mechanic really isn't that good to begin with. Not good enough to make up for the 15 hp you have to sacrifice for it.
the winger's increased jump is 90% the reason why most scouts use it. people don't get a feel for how high that boost can get you. it doesn't seem that high, but on some maps with a lot of flank routes, you start to realize that it's just enough to get you some more places
"The moment you add a weapons that has perks but effectively no downside then that weapon will always going to be really good." Laughs in Third Degree.
As a scout that plays 3 pistols and mostly winger i feel the jump height as much as you feel like playing a machine gun with the pretty boy, ti use it almost all the time because of that jump height that gets you to places that not even the force a nature can get you (depends of the map) and the 25% damage makes it as good as other pistols for finishing your enemies (if random spread dont mess you up)
He literally explained why the scout has mostly utility for his melee because he doesn't normally hit people with his melee but then says the basher is the best
@@MSCDonkeyKong But that is barely used unless you are in a competitive game and even then I think that the atomizer's triple jump would be more handy and give more options also sorry for the long response
But the basher is also a great ultility for movement for example you can use the bleed damage to make you jump even higher than the atomizer i use it a lot on ctf_2fort
@@aerial_noclip now I don't use the basher much but I think the fact that it could jump higher than the atomizer is just straight up wrong and plus I think using the weapon that was meant to jump is a lot better than hitting yourself in the face causing a small bit of damage and bleed just to jump a bit and even if it is better somehow there are pairings you can use with the atomizer to make it better like the winger the soda popper or the force of nature both give you much more jump height then either
@@eomaismaker th-cam.com/video/d1oiH2XMCzo/w-d-xo.html Only the soda popper can keep up with this. Doesnt make me agree that the basher is good outside of comeptitive, but it definitely has more burst mobility than any other scout weapon.
As an unprofessional Scout main, my favorite load out is Stock, Winger, and Wrap Assassin. The Popper is a close second, but nothing compares to the consistency that stock gives you. I love the mobility the winger gives me, but I’d be lying if I were to say this wasn’t a tough choice. The pocket pistol, mad milk, and especially the clever are amazing options for me as well. I’ve been using the wrap assassin for a while because I like having a bleed projectile like the clever without having to give up the mobility of my winger. That being said, I may end up switching the Boston basher. I’ve really warmed up to that option. My secondary loadout would likely be the Popper, Clever and Basher.
Pairing the Winger with the Atomizer can let you reach some pretty crazy spots. Excluding rocket and sticky jumping, the mobility is completely unparalleled mixed with Scout’s already crazy speed
The Back Scatter being low tier hurts. I once had someone say to me in a game "Back Scatter. Cheater." and afterwards have just continued to use it since.
The wingers jump boost alows you to reach places that you otherwise would need the atomiser (the atomiser also deploys 50% slower) or a charged soda popper to reach and since your soda popper wont Always be charged and the atomiser cant attack att range so you will have to swap weapons to be able to defend yourself the winger is the best option and also the fastest since joumping trice takes more time than joumping twice or if you kombo it with the soda popper you will be able to fly away untill you fall and die. The winger allso alows you to get around places that you already could get around even faster than before.
Winger is so useful against soldier bots. That ability to change directions so quickly and move more away from the rocket is quite useful. Same for the FaN, Soda Popper, and the Atomizer.
Id think id go for the winger and the fan o war The winger lets me jump higher and the fan o war marks any enemy for death which means they will take +35% damage from my scattergun, and also perfect for mvm
Scattergun, winger, frying pan is my loadout as a scout main. I used to use the FoN and the sandman. But I love the winger. The added mobility is huge for my playstyle.
Honestly Great list! If I had to stay with one loadout my whole life, it would be scattergun, winger, and atomizer just because I have a very flank heavy playstyle. So mobility is my priority.
@@zveks2022 flank doesn't mean you will be behind them 24/7, the consistent 6 dmg shots with consistent spread is better than a gimmick. Also flank also doesn't mean you will be suprise attacking the enemy, most of the time you just WATCH the flank and make sure the other team's flank doesn't get through it. And when you are actually pushing the flank, you are mostly the distraction so that the other team focuses you and your combo will enter in for free and cleanup.
11:22 I like using the atomizer because its both a utility and better damage output if needed. It deals 40 damage when in the air, and with its triple jump, its like a match made in heaven.
In terms of game code, all weapons' ammo is the "clip". Be it drum, mag, belt, piss dart, or whatever. It's like how 3D models have jiggle bones for hair or breasts or whatever.
Honestly, through the time I have played scout, a lot of his options are viable in whatever format you set yourself in. My main load out has been Force-of-nature, Mad Milk, and the Wrap Assassin, but seeing your video has shown me a new direction towards what other play styles I can explore, so I might switch to Boston or pistol lol, thanks for the awesome vid!
one of my favorite scout loadouts is helper scunt back scatter, mad milk, and fan-o-war get behind enemy linds, mad milk then mark for death. you'l die but so will your enemy since your teammates will shreck them
Another plus for competitive boston basher, since Medic also gets a movement speed boost for healing Scout, he and the Scout can reach the front line quicker, while also building the uber quicker with the Scout.
I use stock- stock - atomizer most of the time. I can definitely appreciate the basher as being better in serious play (mainly for Uber building as you mentioned) but since I'm a pub man I prefer having that little extra movement option. Sometimes I still use the basher tho because I got that 3 rune blade drip 😎
Soda Popper, Winger, and Fan-o-War. I usually actually play this like spy, with the fan being my knife. If someone is marked in melee range, the Soda Popper's high sustained DPS will tear nearly any class to shreds, and the Winger is nice for getting to and approaching from unexpected angles to get the fan hit in, and it's good for picking off escaping marked enemies. Plus the Winger and Soda Popper hype combine to turn you into birdscout. It's a meme loadout really, but a really good meme.
@@minecraftveteranyoda4476 basically where you meme with force of nature and winger with the bat that bleeds you, I forget or the wrap assassin/sandman
Here's my take: Scattergun Mad Milk Atomizer Atomizer for the extra jump, which can be used not only for mobility, but also throwing off my opponent's timing and rhythm. Mad milk for supporting teammates, as well as tanking during a fight I'd otherwise loose, due to not having an escape. Scattergun for consistent, reliable damage output, and sustain.
Solid loadout over all. I like to show off my fancy Scattergun anyway, so I use it all the time. The Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol is, for sure, a direct upgrade. The Boston Basher is not my favorite, I prefer the Wrap Assassin. In my eyes it does what the basher does from a range, because I only ever unironically use the melee when I'm doing something ironic.
Basher is only good for building Uber, outside of that it's below average, wrap assassin can deal some damage at range and by using the guaranteed crit trick (make the bauble have an air time higher than a second) you can soften up enemies, especially with the pocket pistol
The flying guillotine is good because it has no damage falloff and rewards the player for landing long range hits. With a skilled enough user, it's an incredible tool for finishing off opponents at any distance, or just throwing it into a choke due to the fast recharge
the shortstop is THE best scout primary, at least in my testing. it's the only scattergun i can actually use effectively. i use the boston basher and the flying guillotine as my other weapons. i would use the wrap assassin but the drop system hates me and will not give me the weapon.
I usually use the atomiser because part of what makes scout strong is his mobility and ability to flank: so something that can augment that ability can be quite helpful
The fact that you would put the war o fan and the candy cane in crappy tier but the sandman and fire stick in mid. The war o fan is a great tool to use on heavier classes because they are (1) a much slower, easier target and (2) the mini crits greatly improve your ability to effectively kill them. The candy cane does make you take more damage from explosives which is really bad, but in turn gives you health packs to effectively deal with afterburn, bleed etc. The afterburn protection is pretty much useless from the sun on the stick, making you take 1 less damage from the afterburn, and the sandman does absolutely nothing for -15 health.
i would use the wrap assasin cause scout weakness is long range but the wrap assasin covers that weakness if u can *aim* also u can dmg yourself with the bauble

@@prediculous8059 "pyro is a scout soft counter" man thats the words of someone that only sees scout getting killed by flare gun combos, exp scouts not only beat pyros but also truly counter them since scout can always stay away from pyro effective range till he pulls out his seccondary and make himself vulnerable to free meatshots( unless he uses the shotgun or panic attack) the only thing that pyro can do to kill scout is using airblast to ambush scout into corners

Baby faces, pocket pistol, and wrap assassin.
I love the loadout choice, but sometimes I prefer the added mobility of the winger
Same lets be honest the best secondary for scout are all of the pistols the other ones are either really situational or totally uselles but the pistols are really good all 3 are amazing
I just like the long distance damage the winger gives over the other pistols
Sure if you miss your damage falls off quicker but you also need to hit less shots.
My though process is: the winger does what the atomizer does even better and you can actually fight back while using it, so, how's this a inferior secondary to other pistols in any shape or form?
My original scout loadout was scattergun, winger, and wrap assassin. The extra jump high comes in clutch. But then I realized I suck at track aiming, so my new loadout is Scattergun, guillotine, and atomizer. the winger's increased jump is 90% the reason why most scouts use it. people don't get a feel for how high that boost can get you. it doesn't seem that high, but on some maps with a lot of flank routes, you start to realize that it's just enough to get you some more places

Personally I would choose the atomizer because I can’t play scout without a modification on the jumps

Id think id go for the winger and the fan o war
The winger lets me jump higher and the fan o war marks any enemy for death which means they will take +35% damage from my scattergun, and also perfect for mvm

Whenever I play with the FaN I turn off automatic reload. It lets me fire the FaN without worry of wasting ammo.

The afterburn protection is pretty much useless from the sun on the stick, making you take 1 less damage from the afterburn, and the sandman does absolutely nothing for -15 health.
last time i was this early tf2 had no hats
I don’t think bonk is situational because it’s a get out of jail card when used right
virgin stock purist vs chad back scatter enjoyer
This dude didn't even mention the Three Rune Blade. My loadout is Scattergun, Mad Milk, Three Rune Blade. It's a freaking sword!
Are you joking?
If not, then three rune blade is a reskin of boston basher.

@@LazyGreen I have 711 hours. The sword is better than the boston basher.
