    I came here in 2017 for my masters in IT and then continued with my PhD hoping for a PR pathway at some point. So far, every single door has been slammed shut in my face when I got there…
    When I completed my masters, the points cutoff jumped to around 90 from about 75 when I started. I decided to accept a PhD scholarship from my uni as Victoria still had a PhD PR pathway in 2019. That was removed a year after I started. I completed my research and decided to get my skills assessment from ACS using my overseas experience, only to realise that they added the requirement for payslips and bank statements in 2019 (which for me was from 2013, and of course I don’t have them after 11 years). Why can’t we be assessed using the rules that were in place when we first arrived in the country?
    All this just feels like a lottery - even if you have what they need, you have to jump through so many hoops that by the time you reach your target, the rules will change.
    My take? Forget Australia, and if you can, go to some other country that actually welcomes you, and not keeps you running around in circles.

      Sorry for that bro. Totally understand, there are 10000’s of hard working individuals who just want to do normal job and raise a family,ily in Australia. My brother had three kids after coming to Australia and he was still under 485 visa, he applied for student visa but got rejected. He just wants to leave Australia now, no hope.. we pay so much tax and the university fees are 10 times more to international students. If we were in US his kid would have gotten US citizenship .. and also they reduce the tax with number of kids.

      Changing the regulations is fine - the issue is that they’re playing with people’s lives here. In trying to “improve” the immigration system, they appear to have lost their integrity and have left out all ethics. Remember, there was a time when the government was welcoming international students, and now they’re being blamed for pretty much everything. Hypocrisy, thy name is the government(?)

      No doubt many of the Asian countries will consider the recent changes and the proposed new points test as a great financial opportunity.
      No extra points for Australian or regional study and equal points ranking in other respects Australia or abroad.
      Strict requirements in terms of meeting TSMIT for hours contract salary make proof of work experience more difficult in Australia than abroad. Not really a level playing field.
      Far lower fees and living costs for those who study abroad .
      Difficult to see how the removal of the points that students were led to believe would be awarded at the start of the course were not justified.
      Higher Education is the fourth largest export with new points test if implemented resulting in longstanding damage and possible recession.
      Most of industry has been out sourced.Why education!

    Yes, I agree if I have known that there would be no grad visa for someone like me who is over 35 yrs old then I would never come to Australia. I love Australia because of many aspects specially education but after hearing this bad news for 485, everything went down since I came here leaving my family in my home country, I spent lots of money and made sacrifices for the better goal but then my positive outlook turns to nothing... It is really sad, I am so devastated. Anyway, thank you so much Karl Conrad for your empathy to international students like me.

    Hi Karl, when we arrived in this country last year as a student, we were treated like the most valuable guest in this country. Now within just one year they are treating us as if we are criminals or terrorists and trying to get rid of us by any means. This is so so unfair. The 35+ aged student did not come to this country illegally or exploiting the system. We came because the ministers literally advertised to come to this country offering an extended period for a 485 visa. Now in the middle of the journey how come they say "oops!! it was a mistake"? How come a developed country like Australia makes this unfair decision? I don't even know how it's even legal? Our countries are not developed but our system at least has some fairness and our courts would never allow such an unfair decision.

I have a question though, i have submitted my EOI on 14 may 2024 with 80 points for 189 visa as civil engineer and have yet to receive any email of invitation till date. Does this mean i have not been invited or my eoi is kept for the next invitation rounds. Btw i have also applied a 190 eoi with 85 points as civil engineer to expand my chances of getting an invitation. What do you think? Do i have any chances for migrating to Australia? Hi
    Thank you AILS for supporting us. I am also an international student currently doing masters by coursework. I came to Australia in 2023 with the hope that I will complete my masters degree and then get working visa to gain more work experience in Australia. Like many I have also sacrificed and invested many to come here. I have left my family back in my country and took huge education loan to cover the expenses.But all of sudden bringing such changes is really stressing and devastating for me. I really appreciate the Australian rules and do not have any issues with the rules. But it is really unfair if it is applied to those who are already here and studying. Hope the government will allow transition period/grandfather clause to make it fair to onshore students.

    My partner has been accepted into uni for her masters but I’m worried that she will get refused her student visa. Her current covid visa expires the end of August but she is starting uni on the 7th July. With all these changes and refusals happening whilst the government decides what to do whilst the world is still turning is a rather unsettling place to be.

If you want to emmigrate to Australia and you have the skills go through the same process as any other prospective immigrant. Hi Karl, hope you are doing well.
    As they are asking the international students to find job in their field and get PR, is it really that easy as it sounds?
    I have applied more than 100 companies and got rejected because of my visa status with 485. One my friends also faced the same!
    What do you think government should do for the fresh graduates so that they can manage a job in their field without any problem of "CITIZENSHIP OR PR" term in the job description?
    Would love to hear from you about this please.

    • @wesleyreid3174
      @wesleyreid3174 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A lot of businesses are no longer taking risks with students or new graduates who don't have PR or citizenship. My friend is a chef and has been told not to hire graduates or students that are none citizens or don't have pr as the government is clamping down and making it more expensive to sponsor workers plus they could be removed from the country at anytime.
      As you can see, the new imogration laws have already made an impact on small businesses.

    • @akiburrahman8051
      @akiburrahman8051 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @wesleyreid3174 exactly that's what is happening! My point in that case then why the government making changes in such way that having a job will give extra benefits! We are literally betrayed by the government without any doubt! If they don't want us to get PR even if having the potential to get it, why they overpromised and allured us to come here to invest thousands and thousands of dollars and study here? Is it fair at all?
      Aren't they hypocrites?

    • @wesleyreid3174
      @wesleyreid3174 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @akiburrahman8051 It's the government pointing the finger at students blaming them for the housing crisis to win votes, they think by forcing students to leave will solve the problem, instead of stopping forgrien investors buying up every home and driving the property make up.
      I've said it before you should only be allowed to buy property in Australia is you are a citizen or PR.
      The plan is to cut the population size as of now we are at the population level that we should be at in 2040. Smaller population less jobs needed but low and small growth in gdp.
      It doesn't look good for international students at all, even the EU and UK are going the same way.
      I really don't know what you and your friend can do I don't think the government is going to back down on this.

There are currently over 750.000 people here just on temporay student visas alone and this rate of immigration is putting a huge strain on both infrastructure and services. Think about it with 750.000 students in the system (which is not counting those who are actually Australian) in a country of only 27 million how many vacancies do you think are going to generated year on year in those fields.

    Why even hold masters in research different from masters in coursework??

    • @rl2388
      @rl2388 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Master by research usually required a stricter background (I.e., able to present a research proposal and found a suitable supervisor during application) instead of just fulfilling a minimum score to get into the program. Also, students usually require a probation(usually 6 months) and major review period during their first year of candidature.
      Hence, master by research is essentially different from master by coursework.
      But of course to be fair, master by research students are generally still younger than the PhDs and it does not necessarily mean coursework is not a difficult program to get into.
