Imagine this... An ex-classmate of mine, apparently ST certificate holder, was able to secure a seat in my college(VJTI) with 56% while the cutoff was 99.2%.
His sister entered IIM - A with 76% (percentile). Lol.
And their father is/was a chief editor at TOI. Dude was loaded.
Are they economically challenged? No
Were their parent making more than ours already? Yes.
Did they deserve the seat? No.
This whole quota system is so flawed, its just beyond words now.
In my opinion, the core of the problem is the lack of good colleges and universities, even if you get rid of reservation the competition is still going to be cut throat,
We should focus on building more infrastructure first, after that the reason for reservation itself will dwindle and people won't protest if you remove reservation, if you end reservation now, people and mostly poorp people are gonna protest
Actually reservation is benefiting only those who are already taking advantage of this scheme for generations.
If your father took advantage of the scheme then children should not be allowed to again encash this scheme
Exactly even after getting govt jobs also they need reservations for promotions. Like why shall generation after generation will work hard. I am very happy now that most psu and other sector are getting privatised.
@@swarajsonavane8881 it's not about about competition, its about deserving people getting into the university ( financially backward , high achievers) . The caste based system is a baloney. Equality should be based on the current situation, long gone those days of casteism. As, she said caste is a permanent attribute how long you gonna continue this reservation?. There should be open competition and only reservations should be made for first graduates and financially backward candidates.
Reservation was never given on the basis of financial stability , it was given on the basis of social status
Let's suppose a dalit boy and a brahmin girl wants to marry ,both the families have same financial condition ,let's say the boy is little bit more rich . Will they be able to marry .....? answer is "A big NO"
WHY .? where is the logic that both are same if they have same financial condition...? Are they not equal...?
Secondly reservation only gets you into the college ,after that if a high caste and a low caste student graduates both are doctor of equal capabilities because both have passed all the exam required to be a doctor. Let's suppose a society having no reservations in any govt sector be it colleges, jobs , or promotion will the lower caste be allowed to study in premium institutions.......? Ideally yes they should be allowed but actual reality is not so simple .

Reservation is one of the key factor that starts creating hate for SC, ST category. If a guy with 1000 rank doesn't get admission and a sc/st category student get admission in same college for 10k rank. This morally hurts that students and sometime a it develops sense of hate towards those category students .

I got 1700 rank in a competitive exam and I was not able to get admission.
Sc/St category students with 12000-13000 rank were able to get admission in the same course.
I was better than those students still I was not able to get admission. This incident triggered a sense of hate for sc/st category .

I have friends across all categories, I never use to judge people on the basis of their caste, but recently I have noticed, I always make sure to read surname of a doctor before visiting him. Thank you reservation to keep the caste based judgement still alive in our minds.

All throughout my school life I never bothered to think to which caste my batchmates belong to. To me all of them were my friends, all of them were Indians.
Fast forward to me attempting entrance exams, not securing any government seat but my friends who scored way lower than me got in. It baffled me, it just didn't make any sense. The caste I never discriminated against suddenly got planted in my head as the 'students who got in with reservation, they killed my merit'. It has created unnecessary hate in my mind for them. And that is... India's reservation policy for you. Reservation divides you more. Period.

Majority of my relatives have left India and gone to Canada US or UK or Australia( all are Gen.).And remaining few relatives are planning to do the same (again all Gen.).My friends who are general are also planning the same .All my loved ones are leaving this country
.This reservation thing being one of the reasons . I will call this pure discrimination An ST whose parents income is 90K monthly and a general whose parents earn is 20k monthly .The general student could not get a medical seat in government college but The ST who was more than 300 ranks behind got the government medical seat in state qouta(Based on a real story) .That day the general student cried like hell .I knew both of them. Now people judge where is India going where... well I've an answer ....gravitational force

After high school, I made sure that my education was affiliated to a Western country, it might be expensive but it’s worth it. Believe me, India will remain under developed af for a long time. Better get on the winning side because India really is against us.

i lost my potential admission at an NIT. but my OBC friend with 24 marks less than me in JEE mains did get it, not to forget that he doesn't need to pay any fees irrespective of how much his family income exceeds mine. thank you India.

I had 9463 rank in IIT advance 2015, couldn't make into an IIT, but my SC friend with 13k rank got admission in IIT Guwahati, an obc friend whose CRL was 7.5k but category rank was 1.4k and he got into IIT Bombay. There are millions like you and me now. But it's ok. This shouldn't be an excuse, if there's one seat, someone unreserved is going to qualify for it, and it's our duty to try and become that one ! 🙏💯

It has been only seventy years since the beginning of reservation, but 4,000 years since the beginning of the caste system. That is to say, the caste system continued here without reservation. Reservation is not a barrier to caste abandonment.
I scored 147.2 marks out of 200 in SSC CGL and din'd get selected because cutoff for unreserved category was 150 while for sc candidate it was only 126. Now i have so much hate for reservation and i started disliking reserved cartegory thanks to the indian constitution and politicians of the country.
The reason why India has the worst beurocracy in entire Asia. Because here people are selected not on the basis of their merit but on the basis of their caste.

Someone had to say this loud and clear, thanks WION for bringing this out.
People had hope with BJP but they also succumbed to this reservation drama.
The only way in which parties like BJP who traditionally have been against this reservation can revoke it is when they get the security to retain the power otherwise why any political party would commit suicide.
The prolblem is not those who will lose the reservation but those woke kids as well who think that BJP is continuing its legacy of the so-called BRAHMINICAL PATRIARCHY.
SC, ST are some of the biggest supporters of BJP you might not see them on social media but numbers speak for themselves.
The only way to overcome this is to replace the system with income-based reservation...to start with.

In my college, I'm paying 40,000+ fees and the same fees for them is 3,500 and they are using luxurious cars and living lavish lifestyle as compared to mine & btw 80% of them is paying 3,500 and we who are paying more than 10× fees have to sit with them. Even my scores are better than them.

if you look at the data from SECC (socioeconomic caste census), the poverty among SCs is 33.3% ST is 50.6% and generals is 15.6%, most of the sc and st who didnt fall under poverty line were barely above, what you are going through is sad but sadly most sc and st are not rich
Exceptions don't make the rules, if you know a couple of people from the reserved category who are rich, doesnt mean that most are rich or well off. Poverty is still more prevalent in reserved class.
Caste based Reservations are the reason why majority of top indian engineers, doctors, scientists, entrepreneurs and scholars are leaving India to settle in Western countries. India's system doesn't respect talent, whereas western countries value talent.
Western countries also have Reservations. They call it DEI.
first of all 40 % of seats are on merit and second majority of them leave because of money and lifestyle not for reservation. Even foreign companies prefer those top institutes

My father used to work in government job around 20-25 years back and he is general category and experienced a lot of discrimination, not just with recruitments, but also in promotions and growth opportunities so he resigned from government job and works in corporate job now, he dosen't regret resigning one bit

Reservation is a really big problem of modern india
When 64% of your jobs and top institutes are reserved this is bound to happen. Last year in the civil services there were around 320 seats left for open competition. Mind you this is open which means all obc,sc,st etc everyone can compete. This is the so called elitist exam which selects all ias,ips etc. With around 6 lakhs appearing for the exam look at the chance of making it through

Greatest achievement in India is, LEAVING INDIA & SETTLING ABROAD.
Best example was IAS Tina daabi for her current marks her ranking will be around 390 to 430 but she got 1st rank because she belongs to SC even though her parents are rich. I have small doubt about her sister also but I don't know her marks.

the only thing about Tina Dabi was that in UPSC prelims she benefitted from SC category cut off mark but in final result she had first rank because she did really well in UPSC Mains and personality test which is more difficult than UPSC prelims and rank is not given based on caste but based on marks.

I cleared JEE Mains and Advanced. Got merit scores. I was not selected because reservation gave ceats to reserved candidates. And bar for score was increased. Those reserved candidates who scored 1/4th of mine were selected.

But for some vulnerable community especially in this country, it's not possible to exercise these fundamental rights without the rights being secured constitutionally. What a shame.

As an entrance exam student appearing for JEE Mains exam and also belonging to the unfortunate general category. The cutoff percentile for general was 90% whereas cutoff percentile for ST was just 26%. Isn't this discrimination?
Seriously 26% ?? I'm shocked and at disbelief !!!!! I'm a doctor and sadly I belong to general category. I still get tears in my eyes thinking of the struggles we had to go through to grab that one precious seat . If you are from UR category there is no such thing called average student. You should be either brilliant to crack the exams with higest percentile or you should just leave the idea of preparing for it because such exams are not for average general category student. Also don't forget an average general category student who isn't ews. His /her father just earns more than 8lakhs but lets suppose 9 lakh annual income isn't enough for you to get a private seat. So the whole of your life you end up cursing yourself.
Is your condition and ST people's condition same? Do you know what they go through. I know one of my ST friend whose home wasn't working with Mom and Dad, but that friend has to work too. He delivers milk at many homes and you know still he doesn't earns that much. Meanwhile I know many General category students who are rich and don't study at all, leave cut off they will be happy if they pass the tests and Boards.

Shivi Jain u have to understand in those era people from FC were only made to study medicine and other high professional courses. Also people from the upper middle class in urban can afford high class trainings from coaching centers and can afford higher education. So the main agenda of reservations is to provide equal opportunities to all the communities from all the nuke and corners of the country. So, even when u apply for any courses u going to compete with the candidates from the communities in your category and not from others.
As someone who missed UGC NET for 1% while someone got it with marks 10% less than me, I'm not going to be sorry to hold grudge.

I can easily have EWS quota since my father is a retired government employee, and if I had it I would have passed the exam flying colours. The cut off for EWS was 6% less than what I have scored. But I choose to fight. I'll qualify the exam, it was my first attempt and I was youngest one there, as the others taking the examination said. But yup, it hurts a bit.

But I would rather fight in an open condition. And yeah in my field the reservation is 63% (SC+ST+OBC+EWS+PWD +TRANSGENDER) and the open category seats occupy only 37% of the total space.

I'm a beneficiary of OBC quota in Undergraduate. That time as a 12th std student I didn't have any understanding about caste system. In school Many of my friends were from unreserved category and we still stay as besties forever. But I saw their dreams crushed into dust because of this quota system. I finished my UG and made sure I enter Post-graduation only under unreserved by working so so hard. It made me respect myself. And when I looked at my intelligent unreserved friends, they left this country and living happily in a foreign nation. I can't imagine what they would have gone through. Some stayed back and still struggling. This is new - inequality system. I will never ever utilise quota system in my life and I'll make sure my future generation will excel being unreserved.

Thanks Wion for pointing this out.I completed my BSc in microbiology but was preparing for IIT JAM for MSc believe me I wasted two important years of my life for IIT JAM.Second year attempt I rank 102 in All India IIT JAM but didn't get IIT,But those who fall under reservation category got IIT even with 300 rank unfortunately I was very disappointed and suffered emotional pain. Then again the college teacher told me to try foreign universities for msc I don't know what magic is I am now admitted in MSc with full scholarship in Oxford University(no.5 University around the globe).However, I come to England and find that there are hundreds of thousands of Indians who are very intelligent but are stuck abroad because of the stupidity of our government.I don't support any political party directly or indirectly but I feel compelled to say today that BJP is indulging in horror games with the future in general category which may turn out differently later on.What I have come to realize is that if the generals do not agitate against it, the generals will have a very difficult time in the days to come

Once a person has used a "reserved quota", his/her descendants must automatically be ineligible for any further SC/ST quotas. Meritorious students from still truly disadvantaged classes can be provided all educational/hostel facilities (at public expense), so that they can study as comfortably as their peers, of higher social status, but the entrance-level scores at medical, engineering colleges should not be lowered. If exams are held only with an anonymous roll number, the possibility of favoritism can also be eliminated: that'd be a real level playing field for all.
The problem isn't reservation, it's the caste system, easy to call reserved when she itself wouldn't leave her caste tag would she? I am general, the kind of disgust people feel on SC/ST is dumb, the EWS, OBC etc are all reservations only, why is that people see the 20% of the seats they get as a problem despite MOST SEATS not getting filled. However in terms of education and govt jobs there shouldn't be any place for reservations. There should be constructive tools like additional classes/reduced fees etc at public costs.

The first example of inequality is when the students passes 10th exam and then realizes different cut offs based on caste. Even good friends become enemies due to this caste based system. Please don't blame reservation system for the feeling of caste that exists in our society motivating descrimination towards lower classes. It's purely because of caste based pride that people have. Unfortunately we are talking about removing reservation system without understanding the root of the idea of reservation that Dr. BR Ambedkar gave. It's not just economical upliftment of an upressed class but social upliftment. Have we achieved social upliftment of these classes yet? Is there nowhere where people carry pride against their so called caste? While these Illness still exists , people should still raise their voice against removing caste based pride in the society, social harmony, before having the courage to remove reservation system.

Please don't blame reservation system for the feeling of caste that exists in our society motivating descrimination towards lower classes. It's purely because of caste based pride that people have. Unfortunately we are talking about removing reservation system without understanding the root of the idea of reservation that Dr. BR Ambedkar gave. It's not just economical upliftment of an upressed class but social upliftment. Have we achieved social upliftment of these classes yet? Is there nowhere where people carry pride against their so called caste? While these Illness still exists , people should still raise their voice against removing caste based pride in the society, social harmony, before having the courage to remove reservation system.
Social harmony should be a prime concern over wealth of a country. A rich nation with ill social condition is a waste achivement, sickness to mankind.

All I am saying is that feeling of caste or pride over caste that motivates descrimination towards the lower class is the real evil our nation is facing even today. We have a problem in our house we worry we raise our voice and stay mute over the problem that is existing from decades in somebody else's house? Come on brother let us understand the real problem and act against it, not just fight for our problems while we don't care to even study or know problems that many houses in this country face in the name of caste.

Modi raised the Medical quota to such extent that a general category average kid can't dream to be doctor anymore.
It has become next to impossible to become a doctor from the General caste. General caste students are becoming increasingly dejected. This will have severe social, psychological and moral implications. India needs best doctors and not mediocrities.

Let me tell you the real story. My batchmate got admission based on caste reservation with 60% marks in engineering college where I struggled inspite of having 80+ did she deserve the reservation? Definitely not. Why. Because her father was mechanical engineer graduate from IIT Bombay. While my dad couldn't even complete hua graduation due to financial background. This is just one example

I got 452 in NEET UG in 2019 as an general category.. Lost the govt seat by 1 mark... And many people who were SC, ST and OBC got govt seats just with 350 marks... Made me suffer a lot!!!
