I belong to SC caste from Maharashtra. my grandfather was very poor and could not even afford to provide normal food and clothes to my father. we had no land or asset as such. Because of poor living standards and zero financial support my father could not pursue higher education and thus failed 12th std. he started doing labor work on daily wages for around 30rs daily. as my grandfather was ill and retired all the responsibilities had to be fulfilled by my father. with just 30rs of daily wage he somehow managed himself to get married and as well as marry off his 3 sisters. when he used to get done from work while coming back his financially stable lower middle caste and few upper caste friends use to spend money on alcohol and dance bar. but he saved every penny he could and later on became a civil contractor. since then he started earning well and started investing in lands and real estate. now he owns 3 lands and one flat all on his own. he put me and my 2 brothers into good schools and did not use the benefit of reservation as we were financially good. he always said we are not taking reservation just so the one who really needs it can take the benefit of it. Also, i forgot to mention during his childhood he had to beg to get food for his family and faced a lot of discrimination from upper caste people.
As a category of ST, I am now preparing for the JEE through the help of government, there are also students of general category preparing with me, but they always says that you will get the seat easily..than us that's literally hurts.. It feels like the relationship between category is going in a different direction... It seems like they are starting to hate us for that ...

Everything was alright but u sounded very diplomatic in ur opinion. When a candidate toils hard for 2 yrs at such a tender age for such difficult comptetive examinations like jee and see other candidates in his own peer group securing better seats than him inspite of having a low score, how does he feel is simply unimaginable. And in these exams even difference of 1 mark changes your rank by thousands. The better solution should be to provide free coaching and financial assistance to the needy ones and then let them fight their own battle. Why killing talent in name of reservation??

I know there are lakhs of competitors and seats are just a few thousands, but sadly 60% of them are reserved. A same candidate with 90%ile is nit deserving for that seat, but a sc/st with 35%ile is.... WHY??? ... this is not a way jisse discrimination km jo jayga, isse bss hatred badh rha hai... Open category ka towards reserved categories. My sister was denied to take admission in graduation. Because she belongs to SC. My father was demoted many times from where he was working. My other sisters always face discrimination of her caste. She was demeaned openly by her friends. Even my friends also taunts you will get free job you don't need to study.

If you remove that you are removing the equality of opportunity for millions of underprivileged and lower caste Indians. This prevents them from social and financial mobility and keeps them in the state they were for 2000 yrs. Now even the so called upper caste people have reservation called Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). So all sections of the society are benefitted . Inorder to stop discrimination we need to start this from school, we need to educate the students to treat everyone with dignity and respect. If we make the right steps we can eradication caste within the next 200 yrs.

I am an SC. Have heard stories from my father that how my father was forced to sit at very back of class in school and he didn't even had slippers and had to go bare feet in winters and summer. And many more incidents of discremination and humiliation. But he fought all the odds and managed to get himself a decent job in bank. He gave us a decent life but also he worked hard to uplift rest of his brothers and sisters. He worked hard to pay off all the debts his family had. He taught us to always remember where we belong so that we are always down to earth and feel responsibility for others of our community who still didn't got chance to change their lives.

The reservation system in education should only be based upon the income of the individual's household, my friend's father earns less than 1 LPA and he comes under EWS category he got similar marks/percentile in JEE as our peer group at school but still he won't get a good branch in colleges like DTU/NSUT, while me myself an OBC-NCL would get an average branch in those colleges like EE or ME and our other friend whose an SC would get a good branch like MCE or ECE in those colleges itself, and we also are well in our financial condition. It really breaks me and my friend's heart! he's still very very happy for us and we all are very good friends despite this shit system, he said he will take a drop if he doesn't get into those colleges this year 😔 and we also are not heroic enough to leave those seats as our parents won't agree on it. So as an OBC myself, im sorry to all my general category bhai behn
I have a small story to share. I had a friend whose surname was JOJO. He was either ST or SC. he was really bad in studies and was scoring the least marks in the tests in my coaching institution. We were preparing for Engineering exams together. I scored 3225 rank in OJEE and he scored 28000 rank. And guess what he got a better govt college than I did. Then we moved our separate ways and last year I saw his profile somewhere. The guy is a manager in PNB. Clearly quota helped him out. Anyways my opinion is that the seats and jobs should only be given based on talent and not cast. Just my thoughts 💭 😑😑
I'm not against reservation specifically. But don't you think reservation at each end every stage is wrong? I mean, if you have already given reservation for a particular community for their education, then why give them reservation again in employment? Don't you think they were already brought on equal grounds as everyone else, when they availed reservation while studying? Why again help them during employment in government exams? It's like you see a backward community, you help them educate themselves by providing reservation, to fight on equal grounds as everyone else. But you provide reservation again in terms of employment to them, which now makes them superior to others, which is logically unfair. So, reservation should be given rightly and should be given only once, not at every stage of life. It's either during their education or during their employment. That's how you can bring everyone on equal grounds. From there on, let the deserving candidates fight and win. Seems logical, isn't it?

Some statistical figures for all the misguided upper caste outrage to douse itself. Numbers don't lie btw. 1) % of Bhramin population in India : 26%. 2) % of Bhramin population in middle class/working class : 65%. 3) 97% of the jobs in India come under unorganised sector. Out of the 3% of jobs in the organised sector ; 60% of them are government jobs for which there is 50% reservation (which is basically applicable for 74% of India's population. However those OBC's above the creamy layer have to register themselves under general category. Yes this is misused..that can be addressed through reforms). For such a small number why the disproportionate outrage? 4) % OF BHRAMINS in teaching positions of higer education : 65%. 5) % OF BHRAMIN students in higher education : 63%. Are reforms necessary? Yes. But is reservation/affirmative action wrong? Absolutely not. It's social justice. Just that some uppercaste/Bhramin folks still don't realise how privelaged they are just because of their birth. For all the atrocities that has been committed in the past ; frankly the uppercastes must be thankful that they haven't been victims/survivors of anti-bhramin pogroms.

@-Black Lotus- reservation is not that much bad policy. Government policies should uplift every section of society not by pushing down particular section of society to uplift other. So reservation should be like this that it uplift the backward section by not harming non-reserved category.
I belongs to SC caste, and i took benefit of reservation in my study, only because of very poor condition of my family as my father was died in my childhood and my mother was housewife only. This reservation gives me chance to do btech, and now I am doing a job in private company, with some good salary, my social standard has been increased. So according to me and my upper caste frnds, reservation is good in my case, as I was really deserved. But at the same time, my one of classmate belongs to SC caste wasted the seat after dropping the degree in between after lots of re-appears and also wasted the whole stipend money on luxury life,received from government that was the refund of total fees of college. At that case me as well my upper caste frnds thinks that he doesn't deserved reservation due to his well family rich condition. So i think govt should give reservation only to the weaker section SC STs, even after proper enquiry from their neighborhood and after checking their household condition & salary etc. As I am now well settled, I personally feel that i should not use the benefit of reservation for my daughter when she well start studying. And also I try to give her freedom to find her life-partner herself, in any caste when she will be well educated.
I'm Upper Caste and i totally agree about you reaping benefits of reservation was justified bcz of your family situations but the problem steps in when people who never have faced castism or in fact lived a lavish life than a large number of Upper caste people ( my classmate in class 10th was a ST girl and so fr she was so rich and kind that she was the one feeding us in cateens ) . The majority of SC/ST holding top ranks and position in Govt exams were already well off in their life and this reservation was a cheery on cake for them. If there was any income barrier on benefits of reservation , this affirmative action wouldn't be questionable or unjust . But when two person have same resources and facilities , would one be getting preferance .

Every culture and religion has their limitations and boundaries. It's not fair to impose personal opinions on a particular caste or class. If a Brahmin wants to marry another Brahmin, they should be provided their liberty to do so. Just like in Islam, Muslims are not allowed to marry a non-muslim. But the real problem is that most of the benefits of reservation are availed by the rich or upper middle class SC-ST who live in cities not by lower middle class or poor SC - ST... For eg - my friend who is a SC his father and mother both are having Class 1 government job i. e 4-5lakh rs per month and has 3 houses in Delhi itself he went to the best school in Delhi and there is no way one can tell if he is poor ... The real purpose of reservation is upliftment of weaker section of society but in the reality well to do reserved people takes it all.
I didn't knew anything about caste system of society until 10th class and my most of the friends belonged to SC caste ....after i came to know about the discrimination faced by general category people for college seats in 11th .. if reservation is the reason behind Caste discrimination still alive then why don't people discriminate with OBCs ( who avail 27%reservation) and recently introduced EWS reservation for General category "poors" with annual income upto 8Lakh (🤣 so basically the govt RSS believes that a Brahmin with upto 80k mnthly income is poor whereas an OBC with 7lakh annual income is Rich and can't avail reservation) people? The truth is why around 50% seats are today reserved is because more than 25% of these are for non-shudra castes!! (In fact SCs have only 15% seats as reserved for them, while they population is around 30% in this country.) But when it comes to discrimination its practiced only against Shudras! Today around 80-85% of population is eligible for seats reserved. Stop making such excuses just to save your ancestors ass! I belong to SC. My parents have had really poor background, they didn't even have house or 2time meals. My father really struggled & with tannery business now we are stable. We live in 2km away from Kolkata. Here we have separate localities for low caste & others. Nobody from high caste attend our weddings, nor we are invited to theirs. 5years back, high caste people had separate road. Now this issue is resolved. Now we do interact & go to each others house but we are not allowed to enter their kitchen or temple.

I belong to SC caste from Maharashtra. my grandfather was very poor and could not even afford to provide normal food and clothes to my father. we had no land or asset as such. Because of poor living standards and zero financial support my father could not pursue higher education and thus failed 12th std. he started doing labor work on daily wages for around 30rs daily. as my grandfather was ill and retired all the responsibilities had to be fulfilled by my father. with just 30rs of daily wage he somehow managed himself to get married and as well as marry off his 3 sisters. when he used to get done from work while coming back his financially stable lower middle caste and few upper caste friends use to spend money on alcohol and dance bar. but he saved every penny he could and later on became a civil contractor. since then he started earning well and started investing in lands and real estate. now he owns 3 lands and one flat all on his own. he put me and my 2 brothers into good schools and did not use the benefit of reservation as we were financially good. he always said we are not taking reservation just so the one who really needs it can take the benefit of it. Also, i forgot to mention during his childhood he had to beg to get food for his family and faced a lot of discrimination from upper caste people.

When a candidate toils hard for 2 yrs at such a tender age for such difficult comptetive examinations like jee and see other candidates in his own peer group securing better seats than him inspite of having a low score, how does he feel is simply unimaginable. And in these exams even difference of 1 mark changes your rank by thousands. The better solution should be to provide free coaching and financial assistance to the needy ones and then let them fight their own battle. Why killing talent in name of reservation??

If you remove that you are removing the equality of opportunity for millions of underprivileged and lower caste Indians. This prevents them from social and financial mobility and keeps them in the state they were for 2000 yrs. Now even the so called upper caste people have reservation called Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). So all sections of the society are benefitted . Inorder to stop discrimination we need to start this from school, we need to educate the students to treat everyone with dignity and respect. If we make the right steps we can eradication caste within the next 200 yrs.

I am an SC. Have heard stories from my father that how my father was forced to sit at very back of class in school and he didn't even had slippers and had to go bare feet in winters and summer. And many more incidents of discremination and humiliation.
But he fought all the odds and managed to get himself a decent job in bank.
He gave us a decent life but also he worked hard to uplift rest of his brothers and sisters. He worked hard to pay off all the debts his family had. He taught us to always remember where we belong so that we are always down to earth and feel responsibility for others of our community who still didn't got chance to change their lives.

Reservation is an opportunity to educate the poor people and They can fight against the caste based discrimination against them and claim their equal rights. and a new law should be made for those who are capable enough today to send their children to good institutes.
The reservation system in education should only be based upon the income of the individual's household, my friend's father earns less than 1 LPA and he comes under EWS category he got similar marks/percentile in JEE as our peer group at school but still he won't get a good branch in colleges like DTU/NSUT, while me myself an OBC-NCL would get an average branch in those colleges like EE or ME and our other friend whose an SC would get a good branch like MCE or ECE in those colleges itself, and we also are well in our financial condition.
It really breaks me and my friend's heart! he's still very very happy for us and we all are very good friends despite this shit system, he said he will take a drop if he doesn't get into those colleges this year 😔 and we also are not heroic enough to leave those seats as our parents won't agree on it.

I have a small story to share. I had a friend whose surname was JOJO. He was either ST or SC. he was really bad in studies and was scoring the least marks in the tests in my coaching institution. We were preparing for Engineering exams together. I scored 3225 rank in OJEE and he scored 28000 rank. And guess what he got a better govt college than I did. Then we moved our separate ways and last year I saw his profile somewhere. The guy is a manager in PNB. Clearly quota helped him out. Anyways my opinion is that the seats and jobs should only be given based on talent and not cast. Just my thoughts 💭 😑😑

I'm not against reservation specifically. But don't you think reservation at each end every stage is wrong? I mean, if you have already given reservation for a particular community for their education, then why give them reservation again in employment? Don't you think they were already brought on equal grounds as everyone else, when they availed reservation while studying?
Why again help them during employment in government exams? It's like you see a backward community, you help them educate themselves by providing reservation, to fight on equal grounds as everyone else. But you provide reservation again in terms of employment to them, which now makes them superior to others, which is logically unfair.
So, reservation should be given rightly and should be given only once, not at every stage of life. It's either during their education or during their employment. That's how you can bring everyone on equal grounds. From there on, let the deserving candidates fight and win. Seems logical, isn't it?

1) % of Bhramin population in India : 26%.
2) % of Bhramin population in middle class/working class : 65%.
3) 97% of the jobs in India come under unorganised sector. Out of the 3% of jobs in the organised sector ; 60% of them are government jobs for which there is 50% reservation (which is basically applicable for 74% of India's population. However those OBC's above the creamy layer have to register themselves under general category. Yes this is misused..that can be addressed through reforms). For such a small number why the disproportionate outrage?
4) % OF BHRAMINS in teaching positions of higer education : 65%.
5) % OF BHRAMIN students in higher education : 63%. Are reforms necessary? Yes. But is reservation/affirmative action wrong? Absolutely not. It's social justice. I belongs to SC caste, and i took benefit of reservation in my study, only because of very poor condition of my family as my father was died in my childhood and my mother was housewife only. This reservation gives me chance to do btech, and now I am doing a job in private company, with some good salary, my social standard has been increased. So according to me and my upper caste frnds, reservation is good in my case, as I was really deserved. But at the same time, my one of classmate belongs to SC caste wasted the seat after dropping the degree in between after lots of re-appears and also wasted the whole stipend money on luxury life,received from government that was the refund of total fees of college. At that case me as well my upper caste frnds thinks that he doesn't deserved reservation due to his well family rich condition. So i think govt should give reservation only to the weaker section SC STs, even after proper enquiry from their neighborhood and after checking their household condition & salary etc.
As I am now well settled, I personally feel that i should not use the benefit of reservation for my daughter when she well start studying. And also I try to give her freedom to find her life-partner herself, in any caste when she will be well educated.
I'm Upper Caste and i totally agree about you reaping benefits of reservation was justified bcz of your family situations but the problem steps in when people who never have faced castism or in fact lived a lavish life than a large number of Upper caste people ( my classmate in class 10th was a ST girl and so fr she was so rich and kind that she was the one feeding us in cateens ) . The majority of SC/ST holding top ranks and position in Govt exams were already well off in their life and this reservation was a cheery on cake for them. If there was any income barrier on benefits of reservation , this affirmative action wouldn't be questionable or unjust . But when two person have same resources and facilities , would one be getting preferance .

But the real problem is that most of the benefits of reservation are availed by the rich or upper middle class SC-ST who live in cities not by lower middle class or poor SC - ST... For eg - my friend who is a SC his father and mother both are having Class 1 government job i. e 4-5lakh rs per month and has 3 houses in Delhi itself he went to the best school in Delhi and there is no way one can tell if he is poor ... The real purpose of reservation is upliftment of weaker section of society but in the reality well to do reserved people takes it all.

if reservation is the reason behind Caste discrimination still alive then why don't people discriminate with OBCs ( who avail 27%reservation) and recently introduced EWS reservation for General category "poors" with annual income upto 8Lakh (🤣 so basically the govt RSS believes that a Brahmin with upto 80k mnthly income is poor whereas an OBC with 7lakh annual income is Rich and can't avail reservation) people? The truth is why around 50% seats are today reserved is because more than 25% of these are for non-shudra castes!! (In fact SCs have only 15% seats as reserved for them, while they population is around 30% in this country.) But when it comes to discrimination its practiced only against Shudras!
Today around 80-85% of population is eligible for seats reserved.
Stop making such excuses just to save your ancestors ass! Discriminatory practices have been here since ages and practices by even those (like those in villages) who have least to do with Reservation in govt services!!

I belong to SC. My parents have had really poor background, they didn't even have house or 2time meals. My father really struggled & with tannery business now we are stable.
We live in 2km away from Kolkata. Here we have separate localities for low caste & others. Nobody from high caste attend our weddings, nor we are invited to theirs. 5years back, high caste people had separate road. Now this issue is resolved. Now we do interact & go to each others house but we are not allowed to enter their kitchen or temple.
