  • If you have ever wanted a soft, snuggly, cosy crochet blanket then chenille yarn, velvet yarn or blanket yarns are the best! HOWEVER, they can be difficult yarns to work with so in this video, I will show you the BEST and EASIEST crochet stitch to use with these yarns. I will show you how to crochet between your stitches (so no struggling to find the tops!), how to carry your yarn up the sides to avoid excess shedding of yarn tails AND how to crochet around your finished blanket to prepare for any border you fancy!

Do you have a left handed version of this video? If you are left handed, you can convert ANY video on TH-cam yourself! Simply go to www.mirrorthevideo.com/ and follow the instructions to mirror flip any video to convert to left handed!
How much yarn will I need? This is a very tricky question to answer as there are so many variables! How much yarn you need will depend on which yarn you choose, the thickness of that yarn, your tension and how large you want your finished project to be. I suggest making a small sample first so you can gauge how much yarn you'll need. If making a crochet square, you can weigh your finished square to work out how much yarn it used!
How many squares do I need for a blanket? That all depends on the size of the square you are making and how big you want your finished blanket to be! I always advise making one square first then measuring the size of it. From there you can work out how many squares you will need to get the blanket size you want 😀
Do you have the written pattern? Yes! I have written patterns to accompany my video tutorials on my website here: www.hookedbyrobin.com The written pattern is generally released a week or so after the video tutorial to ensure there are no errors in the video itself and to make amendments in the written version if any are found. All the written patterns are FREE to access on my website
How can I print the pattern from your website? Do you have downloadable PDF's? Not at this time no. This may change in the future but for now, I only provide the written pattern directly on my website.
Can you remake this video so it is slower? If the video speed is too fast, you can slow it down! 😀 See this video on exactly how: • How to Adjust the Spee...
Why do you use American stitch terminology? I learnt using USA stitch terms, long before I even knew there was a difference between UK & US terminology! American terms are my "first language" so to speak. If you need a conversion chart, I have one here! www.hookedbyrobin.com/crochet...

What you have shown makes so much sense. I searched a lot, even under bulky yarns to no avail. Thank you so much. All I wanted was a simple scarf. Thanks again.

My first ever crochet project was your viral bee tutorial. That was over a year and a half ago.
A few months ago I decided I wanted so so badly to make my boyfriend a blanket and I bought this kind of yarn knowing he would love it. I followed another TH-cam tutorial and had almost a meter of project done when I realised the sides were wavy and turned to one side. I decided to frog it and when I was ready to completely give up on this gift I came back to your channel and realised you have a whole video on exactly what I needed.
You are such a lifesaver Robin!! Thank you so much for being part of my crochet journey all the way through. Now I know to check your channel first! hahahaha.

I just happened upon your channel and this is the best instructional video I have ever seen. I love making chenille blankets but I've only done them in knitting because crochet seems to be too tight without enough stretch or the stitches or to open. This design is absolutely beautiful, easy, and as you said works well with the shedding and weaving of chenille yarn.

Thank you thank you! I am a newbie crochet-er, and I started making a chenille blanket. I probably would have thrown my hook down in frustration if I hadn't found this video and switched from a straight up sc to this hdc into holes. My friends were awed when I stitched in a darkened theater (just need to feel the holes), and that lead me to go try my hand at a bunch of other crochet projects. I recently purchased some realllllllly bad quality chenille yarn and was muttering under my breath when I remembered your video, and now it's coming together into a blanket. Which is good because the yarn was so inexpensive that I bought 12 skeins (and this is why we don't buy yarn at the dollar store, duh). Now it's not going to go to waist and I can make a cute blanket for my newborn grandson.

I started a blanket 25 years ago. I got tired of it and had alot of tight muscle pain so I stopped I finally finished it a couple months ago. Then I saw this video and I loved it so much I made a blanket that covers a queen size mattress for my daughter's 16th Bday. We were limited to only 3 colors and the 3rd color I only had enough for the border. It was more challenging with 2 rows being the same color out of the 3 rows, but, I LOVED it. A project I was sure would take me months, took me 8 days! I love your videos. You are wonderful and making everything look easy.

I am donating a few of my blankets that I made with this stitch to the Boggy Creek Blanket Drive. The others I will donate to Wishes for Wings because they are collecting baby blankets for the month of October. I am going to continue using this stitch for all the blankets that I make using blanket yarn. Everything looks so even and nice and I don’t have to worry about the stitches becoming unraveled. Also, I am going to make a blanket in the spring for pride month using your tutorial for a Ripple blanket. Thank you for being an amazing teacher. You are truly blessed and talented.
