Oh my God! Minty has eyes!!!!!!!! This movie has the BEST characterization & ending of the franchise! I LOVE the part where they reveal the running gag of "Junior" to be Indy's name & he embraces being "Junior". Then the music just at its peak as the foursome ride off into the sunset. Perfect ending to the series, or it would have been. And John Williams's score was amazing (as always).
"He's got a two day head start on you, which is more than he needs. Brody's got friends in every town and village from here to the Sudan, he speaks a dozen languages, knows every local custom. He'll blend in, disappear, you'll never see him again. With any luck, he's got the grail already." One of the great disappointments of film is that Ford didn't make more IJ movies in his prime.
The temple of doom will always be my favorite. Willie was completely unprepared for that adventure which makes her mannerisms hysterical. And short round is just amazing. I grew up loving that movie and was beyond shocked when I learned later that the movie was reviewed negatively.
As a kid, I enjoyed Temple of Doom, but now that I'm older, I am "can someone just shut her up already". But I've always loved Last Crusade. The chemistry between Ford and Connery just can't be beat.
I remember going to the movie theater with my father, to see Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. Talking about relationships between fathers and sons, we haven't had the best relationship, and haven't seen or spoken to each other for the better part of 20 years now. I don't have many moments or memories that bring a smile to my face, in regards to my father... But, watching this film in the theater, just he and I, always brings a smile to my face. It was rare that I got a chance to spend time with him alone, usually time spent with him also included my older brother and younger sister. So just the two of us, watching this movie and getting a kick out of seeing Indy on another quest will always have a special place in my heart.
I don't know the details obviously, but it is never too late to bridge gaps created in life.. Pride can lead us on a path that we may ultimately regret when the chance to mend past differences has gone. I am a father and there isn't a day that goes past that I do not wish my children would simply send me a text saying how they are, but all I can do is wait and hope that they become wise enough to realise that holding onto bitterness is defeating. You don't have to make him part of your life everyday, and he may not deserve it, but I bet he feels the same way.

Completely agree on "Crusade" being a film that is better appreciated with time, as when you're young the father-son dynamic completely flies over your head, and it's that dynamic the one that makes this movie truly special. Sometimes Spielberg is accused (fairly, IMO) on being too sappy and sentimental in some of his movies, but here it fits perfectly with Indy's story.
Sir Connery's mannerisms as the elder Dr. Jones reminded me so much of my late father who, like the character, sported a white beard and had a similar detachment hiding endless affection and love. I enjoy the movie now even more than when it was new.
The father/son theme also gave freshness to the franchise, helping avoid yawn-inducing redundancy you get in many sequels. Connery playing the role made the movie.
This one is my favorite. Some elements like the action and villains are not quite on the level of Raiders, but they're still good, and the pitch perfect father/son arc more than makes up for it.

This was definitely meant to be the final film (as we all know). Raiders has a truck chase scene, starting on horseback. Temple of Doom has a car chase and a mine cart scene and even an inflatable raft ride. I picture Lucas asking Spielberg what's left for the 3rd. Spielberg tells him, "We could have a train, boats, motorcycles, a blimp, an airplane dog fight, or a tank. What do you think we should go with?" Lucas replies, "Why not all of them?"
I love how the music in all three films matches the culture they’re dealing with. The music in Last Crusade has a stately, elegant Easter mass feeling.
That sequence when the guy drank from the holy grail and turned old fast eally freaked me out of the kid. But I really enjoyed Indiana Jones and his father's interactions throughout the movie.
I almost wish Donovan had died in a more conventional way, if only because his onscreen death puts paid to my fun little idea that Donovan is secretly a Scaroth splinter (Julian Glover had played an alien splintered through time named Scaroth on _Doctor Who_ in 1979).

Yes, Dreamy Eyed Man, I too am glad they chose to close the trilogy when they did, Yes, Indiana Riding off into the Sunset surrounded by his Father and his Companions was a fitting way to Bid Farewell to one of the great heroes of Film.
The first twelve minutes of this film always depresses me now, because I loved River Phoenix as young Indiana Jones, and just four years later he died far too soon.
The 3rd one was the first one I was allowed to see in the theater and boy I was blown away 😃 I‘m so thankful that I had the luck to be a Kid/Teenager in the 70’s, 80‘s and 90‘s… so many great and original movies we were able to experience in cinemas and be amazed by the practical effects and great story telling… Jaws, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, E.T., Terminator, Back to the Future, The Goonies… the List goes on and on… and countless great Thrillers in the 90‘s…. Oh man… I miss those days… today it‘s all Comic Books and even though I like those Marvel Movies it‘s starting to get boring. Thanks Minty for bringing back sweet memories 👍🏻🤗
🍿🎟🎬📽🎞 the films of the 1980s into the late 1990s are the next generation of Hollywood Classics hands down! Oh yes I’m proudly biased here bc I’m a kid of mid 80s and teen of mid-late 90s. My parents were moviegoers and VHS owners.. as well as my extended family members who were into film direction, scriptwriting and production during the late 60s into the 80s. My siblings and I had access to the family owned video stores from ‘87-94 and sometimes movie theaters free passes with family members. New York City & The Hamptons of Long Island TV & film Hollywood Elites movie screenings were fun but as kids we loved the movie stars and directors. 1988-1991 was so electric for new movies back to back~ gen x’ers & us millennials were spoiled indeed 😁 Fun review Minty! RIP Sean Connery 🕊
It truly is the last Indiana Jones movie. There has never been another movie in that franchise. I swear on my Crystal Skull that is the truth. Anyway, another great video Mark about one of my favorite movies as a teenager. Thanks.
'you left just when you were becoming interesting!' one of my favorite lines. this movie has brilliant dialogue between Indy and his father. the humor is so good. And the part where Hitler signs his dad's diary... omg. hilarious.
After my Mum died when I was 28, my Dad used to keep visiting me abroad and we became the best of friends. This movie always reminded me so much of our relationship.
Minty, you forgot to mention the offshoot prequill, 'Young indiana Jones' T.V. series. from 1992-93. Which was inspired from the beginning of 'The last crusade' where you see young indiana, securing the golden chalice.
When I was a kid, I always hoped they would do a forth movie and base it on the video game "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" Such an awesome game and Indy story.
@@elijeremiah1058 offcourse they thought that way, and i think that maybe was the only old tank model that really drives at this time. I don't know any ww2 german tanks that are functional.
Last Crusade is truly fantastic and adventurous! I think Connery totally gets a great chance to play a very different character here; definitely a solid contrast from his version of James bond!
This is my favorite of the entire series. I think it was a great blend of action and comedy. Sean Connery definitely added something special to the film with his performance.
🦈⚓Loved the River Phoenix prologue, his bangs were looking good& he could've pulled off Han Solo so well back then:)He played Harrison Ford's son in The Mosquito Coast-1986-directed by great Aussie director Peter Weir🦈⚓
So funny how we perceive movies differently from each other. I saw Quest for the Holy Grail eight times in the theater during it's initial run when I was about 10 years old. It was definitely my favorite of the tree then and now. Maybe it was the deeper emotion in it that got me. I was missing that in my family unit and I really identified with Indy re-connecting with his father. Either way, thanks for your awesome vid. Much entertainment for me!
I was 16 when it was released and it was during the exams. So a classmate went to see it and was raving and hinting. And I do wanted to see it. But then we went on holiday etc. I finally got to see it on august 10th 1990 (it was released in May 1990 in NL). And I loved it! I always adored temple of doom, but this instantly became my favorite. There are so many clever and well shit action sequences. You are really falling from one action and location into the next. The humor is more present and also emotion. And I remember the feeling when Indy went over the cliff! And Sean is looking over with Brody and Shalah. I felt really sad! My mind was racing: “Who would kill off Indy?” And I guess the whole theater went quite but I remember the roar of the audience when he climbed up! And then moments later the disbelief that Dr Jones Senior now gets shot! Man! Such a great adventure movie, the best out there!
The Last Crusade is not only my personal favourite Indiana Jones Film but I think it is thee best one in general out of the whole Original Trilogy especially with Harrison Ford & Sean Connery’s chemistry making that film what it was. Plus I could relate to it as it was one of the last films I watched with my Dad before he died when I was 7. Great times before the end times!🤘😎🤘
I'm glad you came around to this film. I always loved it. What makes me laugh, is that Elsa, was a blonde-haired Austrian woman and Indiana Jones "let her go...".
It's pretty amazing that Dr. Jones even found his dad in a giant world at war. And THEN he went on to find the Grail. I can't even find the remote when it's lost in the sopha cushions, half the time... 🙄
this movie is absolutely fantastic when hes telling the Nazis that Brody has the book, and hes a master of disguise he knows 30 languages and will blend in. very next scene is him bumbling around in some foreign town. absolutely hillarious
I'm probably wrong, but I'd always assumed Jones mentioned Brody by name, while-- to an extent-- describing Salah. Like, blending in because he knows the local languages/customs, etc. 🙂
Temple is my favorite for many of the same reasons Empire Strikes Back is my favorite of the Star Wars movies, it's cold, dark and gritty. That being said, Last Crusade is perfect in every way. I was in my teens when it came out and I longed for another Indiana Jones movie and boy howdy did I get it! It has gotten better with age and being a parent with sons makes me appreciate it even more.
My favourite of the series (which in my head canon will always be a trilogy), slightly edging out "Raiders" namely because, Sean Connery. 😃I also kind of like the idea of Elsa being the one who shoots Henry and then drinks from the wrong "Grail". And I'm not sure how anyone could consider Last Crusade "playing it safe" when they made the supposed love interest the villain.
Exactly. Temple of Doom employed cheap stunts intended to cash in on shock value and audience disgust. Replacing them with a thoughtful, in-depth plot in no way "plays it safe." Minty's out of his mind.
Wow, I've never seen Minty without his glasses! Although I must say, you look much more like Josh Gates from Expedition Unknown in that outfit/hat and without glasses than you do Indiana Jones! Still look good though!
I love all the Indiana Jones movies, well, Crystal Skull not so much, but the first 3 definitely! I love the chemistry between Ford and Connery! Brilliant. I also saw this at the cinema! It was awesome 🤩
This is definitely my favourite of the classic 3, and also one of my fav movies of all time, I’m the same though as a kid Temple of Doom was my favourite but as I grew up I realised that was probably my child brain being attracted to cool things like chilled monkey brain and run away mine cart scenes 😂😂 Crusade has the best story telling, adventure and characters in my opinion, it’s the perfect movie
Temple was my favorite as a kid, but as you said, this movie becomes more beloved with age. It's now my favorite of the Indy films. I feel like the tie was a counter to Connery's bowtie. Kind of an old vs young dynamic.
Watching in the chronological (time frame of the movie) helps. Indy 2 is 1935, Indy 1 is 1936 & Indy 3 is 1938. 2 is my least favorite of all the Indy movies (including 4 - 1957) but when watched in chronological order you see how Indy has stayed the same and how he's changed. It "explains" why Marion isn't in #2 especially after the "heat" of them in #1. Marion not being there in #3 it's easier to go "yep they had another falling out" (which is explained in 4). I have all 4 and it is the way I always recommend watching.
I truly love this film, and it is my favorite of the trilogy. 4 was a mess, and I'm not really looking forward to 5.One can only hope; they learned from their mistakes. Also; my nephew loved Temple of Doom as a kid.
Number 5 is going to be a dumpster fire. I don't even watch 4. Same as Star Wars; after ep 6, I watch something else. Disney is like having weevils; you can't eradicate them or smoke them out, they simply gnaw away until everything is rot.
Crusade also has a great cameo with Alexei Sayle (The Balowskis in "The Young Ones") as he plays the Sultan of Satay who reeally REALLY likes the Rolls Royce Phantom II. 🤣
Yes, that one doesn't get enough love. People are too much against Willie Scott but her being slightly annoying was the point. She even gets in a couple of good punches toward the end though.
As always, I enjoy your takes of classic movies along with the lesser known information about them. Yes, I agree "Crusade" is the true sequel as "Temple" is technically a prequel. And I loved the movie-within-a-movie opening. Yes, also without Sean Connery, it would have been seen as being too on-the-nose from the first movie.
Watching this again, many years later, now as a father, makes a brilliant movie *borderline* sad (in a TON of feels kinda way) at times to watch. Many small scenes really have heart. Too bad they didn’t stop at this one.

He's hilarious in this, I agree. A complete over-the-top ass.
The end where they ride off into the sunset is absolute perfection 👌🏼
And that should have been the end of the Indy saga but no they had to ruin the legacy, what a shame
Definitely the Best Indiana Jones movie. Raiders was great, but this one made more money and showcased young IJ and his father.
Yes, Dreamy Eyed Man, I too am glad they chose to close the trilogy when they did, Yes, Indiana Riding off into the Sunset surrounded by his Father and his Companions was a fitting way to Bid Farewell to one of the great heroes of Film.
Don't forget Temple of Doom was a prequel.
Raiders was Part 2. Temple of Doom was Part 1.
Last Crusade was the absolute BEST one.
🍿🎟🎬📽🎞
the films of the 1980s into the late 1990s are the next generation of Hollywood Classics hands down!
1988-1991 was so electric for new movies back to back~ gen x’ers & us millennials were spoiled indeed 😁
Fun review Minty!
RIP Sean Connery 🕊
I know you don't normally do TV shows, but I'd like to see 10 things about Young Indiana Jones if you don't mind
It truly is the last Indiana Jones movie. There has never been another movie in that franchise. I swear on my Crystal Skull that is the truth. Anyway, another great video Mark about one of my favorite movies as a teenager. Thanks.
Yeah, it’s a good thing they left it at three.
I wasn't ready to see Minty without glasses.
But glad I did.
one of the greatest action films of all times , let alone the best of the franchise
My Mother took me to see this one in theaters during its original run. I absolutely, un-ironically love this film.
'you left just when you were becoming interesting!'
one of my favorite lines. this movie has brilliant dialogue between Indy and his father. the humor is so good. And the part where Hitler signs his dad's diary... omg. hilarious.
Sir, are you aware that hat looks dashing on you? Absolutely fabulous! 💙
Yea me and my dad God rest his soul saw this movie in the theater and we loved it.
Connery was so good in this, really one of his best roles and performances.
It’s a gem!
When I was a kid, I always hoped they would do a forth movie and base it on the video game "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" Such an awesome game and Indy story.
That was a brilliant game.
Not forgetting 'Last Crusade' on the ST and Amiga which while not as technically brilliant was a very playable platformer.
@@skylined5534 Right!! Fate of Atlantis was amazing.
I love this movie so much. The panzer tank scene is one of the best action scenes ever. Spielberg’s directing is amazing.
Only error is that it's no german tank
@@Daemonarch2k6 Oh ok interesting.
@@elijeremiah1058 it's an english MK IV
@@Daemonarch2k6 That’s cool that you know that! I wonder if they thought the English tank looks better in the movie. Either way I’m glad you told me.
@@elijeremiah1058 offcourse they thought that way, and i think that maybe was the only old tank model that really drives at this time. I don't know any ww2 german tanks that are functional.
Never get tired too watch this movie from my Age 16 till now my 52 year old. Master piece ever made greetings from 🇲🇾
OMG You look SOOO good without those sunglasses!!!🤩 good for you minty. always a great episode.
cheers mate
🍻
No mention of the wonderful and absolute best of them all, "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". ;)
You listened to us on Facebook! No sunglasses today!! Nice👌🏼
"Last Crusade" is definitely my pick. The screaming skull always gives cinema that extra sparkle💖
Best installment of the lot! Saw in the theater and bought a VHS copy at local McDonald's 😃👍 What a great time to be alive 🤍🤍
I love, love, love this movie so so much!
RIP, Sean. You'll be dearly missed!
R.I.P. to River Phoenix as well.
R.I.P Harrison Ford
And Denholm Elliot!
@@paulcowlishaw Harrison Ford isn't dead.
I was just at Petra, Jordan earlier this month! How appropriate you should upload this now!! Thanks! How did you know? :-)
I would love to visit that place!
I'm glad you came around to this film. I always loved it. What makes me laugh, is that Elsa, was a blonde-haired Austrian woman and Indiana Jones "let her go...".
I cannot believe that my detective skills lead me here! Nice to see you do this video.
The tie is added to Indiana's costume when he was about to rescue his dad. It's a mark of respect for his father.
It's pretty amazing that Dr. Jones even found his dad in a giant world at war. And THEN he went on to find the Grail.
I can't even find the remote when it's lost in the sopha cushions, half the time...
🙄
Lol if you think that is amazing, you should watch Taken. Find your daughter in a sex trafficking ring in the middle of Paris.
It's so weird to see you without your Reno 9•1•1 glasses on.
this movie is absolutely fantastic when hes telling the Nazis that Brody has the book, and hes a master of disguise he knows 30 languages and will blend in. very next scene is him bumbling around in some foreign town. absolutely hillarious
“Is there anyone here who speaks English?!” LOL
I'm probably wrong, but I'd always assumed Jones mentioned Brody by name, while-- to an extent-- describing Salah. Like, blending in because he knows the local languages/customs, etc. 🙂
As Indy was saying this, I was laughing- - but at least he said it convincingly.😆
Crystal Skull was just too weird. I hear there is a 5th movie planned.
Sadly Crystal Skull was my introduction to the franchise, but seeing Raiders of the Lost Ark sometime after fixed it
Minty ignored that this movie existed apparently.
I’ve never seen Monty’s eyes before, this feels wrong lol
He took off his glasses in his previous Indiana Jones episodes as well.
Temple was my favorite as a kid, but as you said, this movie becomes more beloved with age. It's now my favorite of the Indy films. I feel like the tie was a counter to Connery's bowtie. Kind of an old vs young dynamic.
I'm in total agreement. This is my favorite now but I loved temple of dim as a kid. The gross out stuff and scary culty scenes work on a kid level
I loved Temple of Dim a lot as a kid as well.
@@vickielawson3114
I preferred Riders of the Last Irk.
“After you, Junior.”
This film is my personal favorite of the franchise
I truly love this film, and it is my favorite of the trilogy. 4 was a mess, and I'm not really looking forward to 5.One can only hope; they learned from their mistakes. Also; my nephew loved Temple of Doom as a kid.
Temple of doom is my favorite
Number 5 is going to be a dumpster fire. I don't even watch 4. Same as Star Wars; after ep 6, I watch something else. Disney is like having weevils; you can't eradicate them or smoke them out, they simply gnaw away until everything is rot.
Last Crusade has always been my favorite, ever since first seeing it when I was around seven or eight! 🤟😎🤙
Crusade also has a great cameo with Alexei Sayle (The Balowskis in "The Young Ones") as he plays the Sultan of Satay who reeally REALLY likes the Rolls Royce Phantom II. 🤣
Ullo John got a new motor?
Haha! He was great!
Fantastic video, like always. 😀
Last Crusade has always been my favorite of the group and we don't speak of anything evil that may have come after the trilogy
Don't forget Tilbury docks which doubled as the Venetian harbour and featured ww1 sloop HMS Chrysanthemum as the "Tiber" which crushed the baddies.
i absolutely loved temple of doom, all of these films are equally great imo
Yes, that one doesn't get enough love. People are too much against Willie Scott but her being slightly annoying was the point. She even gets in a couple of good punches toward the end though.
@@jolenetwomey8280 Yeah, she has a couple moments. Can't hang out with Indiana Jones without getting into the adventure a little bit.
I absolutely loved The Last Crusade.
Me and my grandad had many awesome afternoons watching it together.
We'd always be referencing scenes too 😂
A perfect finale to a classic franchise!
Thank you for doing this video . As you said , the older you get ,, the more you understand or connect with it .
