Stock for Premium, Limited, and GT is 245/40r18. If you downsize to 17s and run 245/45r17, it's the same overall diameter. I sometimes think about doing that for the daily setup since you get more sidewall cushion. Only issue is if you decide to run a decent BBK like a 6/4 pot, you might run into clearance with the 17s. The stock calipers was already so close in the video. Lol.
Certainly will have clearance issues with a 6 potBBK. 4 piston would most likely clear depending on offset. We are looking into brake upgrades/solutions
@@WIDEBODYNATION I think the only easily available to order BBK for the masses is the Rotora BBK from Subimods. All I've done at the moment was swap to EBC Yellowstuff pads, Motul RBF 600 fluid, and I have the DBA T2 slotted rotors on the way (fronts are being worked on for import from Australia at the moment but the rears should be in this week and they're direct bolt ons). It just sucks that there really aren't many options for us just yet.
Went the same route with Sparco Terras and Conti DWS 06 in 245/45/17s. Transformed the ride as a daily driver. If I want to do track days, I'll buy a summer set.
Oh, did you get a run time with the lighter wheels? and what elevation is the strip you are running? I have a Premium with 18s but I'm thinking about going to a 17 with a bigger sidewall just for the wheel weight savings.
Un-sprung weight is an 8:1 ratio so dropping 10 lbs per wheel is , (8*10)*4 so 320 lighter as far as the motor is concerned. U can drop massive weight with full ceramic rotors but prepare for the $$$
Wheels look good. I went with the plastic hub centric rings. Cheaper and do the job. I figured if once centered there shouldn’t be any stress on them. As for Discount Tire, they miss balanced two of my wheels(57cr). They got the weight off but ended up scratching it when removing the adhesive! I asked them not to touch it anymore. I spent the next day removing that dam adhesive tape off myself.
I’m always suspect if they balance the wheels correctly. I really only go to them due to the tire warranty coverage cuz I never make it through a set of tires without a picture or something
needs floppy ones to bend when going fast and for the occasional high lip driveway. I dislike my rigid RockBloks despite them giving good protection. But tough to complain when they were 50% of the price for RallyArmour flaps....
I understand downsizing for weight but brake clearance in the future will be in the issue with a BBK. And with a 17x9 I feel like you could’ve gone a wider tire vs the factory width
I don’t really feel the need for wider since it’s AWD. Yes 255 or 265 could be better lateral grip but 265 opens up rubbing and clearance issues. BBK is tbd. Depends on what we end up building the car for
The WRX trans isn’t as stout as STI transmissions though, so perhaps not ideal to lean heavily on a WRX transmission. I agree that downshifting and being in gear during cornering can take some weight off the brakes tho
Subaru was magazine cheating w/the Dunlops; high grip tires equals "good" magazine/journalist numbers. Black wheels have no personality; but everyone is different. what was the circumference difference btwn the 245/40/18 and 245/45/17; the 17s setup seems smaller overall.....
I would have stayed at 18”s they still would have been lighter with enkei s that close to the breaks is gunna cause more damage if a wheel bearing starts to go not to mention wheel weight issues …the machine tells them were to put them and how much ..probably could have been same weight savings just by down sizing the rubber to a lower profile on the 18 “enkies and go wider for bigger traction patch equates to better grip while keeping clearance for bigger brakes later …first ride and your all ready talking about a better brake upgrade 🤦🏼 I think this was a spur of the moment purchase to be honest this is why they call things stages when tunning a car it’s so you don’t over spend and do rework it’s about a 1300 to 1400 mistake hopefully you can sell them get the bigger brakes then get a race wheel with wider traction patch to hold the power down this is like a guy who turbos his car and wants to make 500hp but the stock connecting rods can only hold 300hp buy the connecting rods for 500 put them in or rebuild a new moter for 8000👏👏👏👏🤦🏼
So you don’t like the fitment? The 17s with the 45 profile tires literally fill up more of the wheel well than stock. I agree it could use a little lowering but that’s classic that most people assume 17s just automatically mean more wheel gap

If you run the aluminum hub adapters make sure to put anti seize on them.
Gotcha, not currently running any hub adapters
... I think he's talking about the aluminum hub centric adapters for the "big bore" hub wheels....
New wheels loook goood! 😍
Thanks! Back to power mods!

Yes, helps the (stiff) stock suspension immensely especially if you run tire pressure in Low 30s
I'm thinking this same setup for my 22 Limited in silver, Terras in black
can you share some more details on how it transformed the ride? i'm interested in 17" rpf1s for what I Believe would be tremendous weight savings
You’ve convinced me to go with 17x9 rather than 18x9.5, thanks 🤣
Good choice!
Nice Looking at the 501 rally methods at 17x8
After seeing your car, I have decided to use the same size on my Base 2023 WRX.
Nice choice!
Sick wheel setup man!
Thanks! Started getting a lot more compliments on the car with this set up believe it or not
Looks nice!
Thanks! I like them!
wheels MADE IN THAILAND?is it will be the same quality that "proudly" MADE IN JAPAN?
Thailand or the Philippines will make no difference. They are made to Enkei's specs and carry the same Japanese road certifications...

Ran a 8.65 at 82 MPH with the new wheels. Shaved almost .2 and added 2 Mph just in the eighth mile
@@WIDEBODYNATION Wheel and tire weight is overlooked by many. It makes a big difference.
Can we get more pictures of the car? Are they perfectly flush with no real poke? Looks damn close. Needs some mudflaps :D

Gasoline runs 6ish pounds per gallon....drive around near empty....look at those weight savings

Thinking about it for sure, looks and paint protection

How did the 17s with 245/45/17 affect handling in terms of cornering, windy roads.
Huge improvement in ride quality and steering feel. PS4s are great tires and RPF1s are so light.

Glossy black not for me, also 35 offset to much. I’m considering the same wheels but 45 offset and silver.
