  • In this video I show you exactly how to put on a timing set and cover for a Gen 4 454 Big Block Chevrolet V8. This is something that you are going to need to watch thoroughly and be mindful when doing the job yourself. We are more than halfway through our Big Block Chevy build and I can't be more excited to continue!

    I am following along as I build my engine, nice to have a guide to follow for reassurance because parts aren’t cheap so small mistakes can be costly. Great videos, looking forwards to the rest.

    This is just the most amazing series. What would be next level is showing us how to add horsies. So really just an addendum to this series. But I guess this isn't getting enough hits unfortunately for it to be worth it...?

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for watching! It's not that it wouldn't be worth it. It's that engine is in my 1967 Camaro and I built it to be mild and fun. Not a scary monster that I can't just cruse. But if we do build a monster big block you can guarantee it will be here on the 2CarPros TH-cam channel.

    Hey buddy love your video series. You have to tell me if you sold the two bolt Main to cover the cost of all the Machine Shop work at least what did you do

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ken thanks for watching! Yes there was a bit of horse trading for the machine work on the 4 bolt. Really didn't need a machined 2 bolt when I had a 4 bolt.

    Does the oil pan have to be off to install what you have here? Also is there a risk of messing up the distributor if it was removed when the engine wasn't at TDC? Great job, thanks!!

  • @nightsnake64

    Can you share the part number on the cam gear thrust bearing and does the block need to be machined for the the thrust bearing? Thank you in advance

      Some people are so nice! I still can't believe someone just gave me a 4 bolt! Yep! Everything is exactly the same just the main caps have 4 bolts instead of 2. Thanks for watching! We have more big block videos coming very soon!

  • @DarthMayers

    Hi question, is dot to dot TDC on #6 or #1? I see others that say dot to dot is TDC #6 then when you rotate and put both dots at 12 #1 is at TDC? I'm confused

    • @2carpros

      Dot to dot on TDC of #1. Thanks for watching!

  • @geraldmontoya952
    @geraldmontoya952 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With the key pointing to #1, how do you know if it's the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke?

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So the camshaft decides that. When you line the dots up you are on the compression and everything is good. Thanks for watching!

    Why did you change the cam sprockets midway through the install? You open a box with a nice billet sprocket, but installed a cast sprocket.

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't, the camera settings makes it look kinda like billet in the first shot. But it is cast. Thanks for watching!

      @@2carpros dude what are you talking about? The sprocket at 2:03 has holes all the way around. The sprocket at 9:29 has 3 oval shaped holes. It's unquestionably two different sprockets.

    I was going to rebuild my engine but come to find out I don't have to I got a 1992 Alero RVs been sitting for 10 years got a 454 4 bolt main 4 speed tranny only 40000 miles on everything last time this thing's been registered was 2010 but my engine does not need to be rebuilt is it worth any body out there kind of in a tight spot I live in Florida

    Does the cam use a plate with the 2 bolts to hold it in on the front or or is it for roller cams?

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, not on this engine. I don't believe the roller cam matters for a thrust plate. Thanks for watching!

    • @keithscudder7136
