It’s both amazing and heartbreaking how Stadium 1 & 2 keep finding ways to make Werster’s Speedruns a living nightmare. Everything that should go right for him goes wrong and the CPU kicks back, relaxes and sweeps him.
What do you expect in such long runs of a game that has rng every turn. It's not like this game is even made for speedruns, but hey, it's Pokémon, must speedrun.
Hey, I'm early enough to do the math. I'm also not great at math, so let's see how that goes. .8⁵ (land all hydropumps) × .0625³ (3 crits) x .125 (assume 1/8 range on Vulpix) = 1/100,000. Double the denominator if it was a 1/16 range. Not the craziest thing to happen to werster, but still premium grade bullshit.
I am pretty sure that OHKO on vulpix is even worse. That might actualy have been a straight 1/39 roll. Because assuming identical special stats, hydro pump would not be able to OHKO *at all*. That's certainly some werster luck here, lol.
Final Battle: Turn 1: Hydro Pump hit (Poliwag have Mystic Water?) Turn 2: Crit. Hydro Pump (I don't remember exactly if that text only appeared in OHKO, was a crit. for me) Turn 3: Hydro Pump hit Rematch: Turn 1: Crit. Hydro Pump Turn 2: Crit. Hydro Pump Turn 3: Crit EQ. Was fun to see this in the finals, that's right!
"That's right." Nostalgia aside, I remember the RNG on this game was such ass. I also learned to turn the announcer voice off because you could tell right away if you attack missed or not. "WIll it hit/connect" was your cue that no, no it did not hit the Pokemon
Me watching: "Huh that wipe was pretty bad, this game sure can mess with you" You should've seen my face when I saw the video was even 3 minutes longer
I'm pretty sure it doesn't cheat at all. I played Stadium 1 and 2 for hundreds of hours. It's like Battle Frontier where it's a lot harder than the normal gameplay in the handhelds so people get the impression that it's cheating. You don't remember the battle when a L.24 Pidgey crit your L.55 Charizard 4 times in a row whilst you kept missing Fire Blast because it didn't matter, you just mashed A. Also the AI is a lot better in the Stadium games. For example they play differently if you are using a Wobbuffet, and they "know" what moves Pokemon can learn. Like in Stadium they will often switch Golem and Rhydon out against a Raichu because the AI knows Raichu can have Surf. So people see things like that and they think the game is cheating, but the truth is even if your Raichu doesn't have Surf they often will switch out their Golem/Rhydon (I'm pretty sure this exact scenario has happened to Werster in one of his speedruns actually), in this case it's just that the AI knows movepools of Pokemon in the Stadium games, but a more casual player might click Surf only to see the opposing Golem switch out, so I can understand why they think it's cheating by secretly reading your moveset or even your move choices each turn, but it's honestly not, it's how the AI was programmed. As for things like accuracy and crits. I can't prove it to you in the code, but I have played the games so much that I would have noticed if they were cheating. It would have been discovered and well publicised by now if the opponents in Stadium (or Battle Tower/Frontier) were programmed to have different accuracies and crit ratios.
So, the thing about stadium is that while the AI doesnt really "cheat" they can read the game "RNG". So sometimes they will only go for certian moves because they read the rng and it gave them the best outcome for example, so you can see those ridiculous streaks a bit more often than you'd probably see naturally because of that.
@@shadeknight6537 Yeah when I saw that calc I assumed that there have to be some stat differences. Vulpix had 85 HP, so if SPDEF were maxed out and Poliwag had maxed SPA it should have lived at 1 with max roll. Really unlucky lol
So Dwight in R2 has max Stat Exp but the DVs are still random, your Pokemon vary based on their BST but I can just tell you that Vulpix had 63 Sp Def. If Poliwag had minimum Special DV, it *couldn't* OHKO. If it had a perfect Special DV, it was a 25/39 range to kill. If it was an average DV, it was a 9/39 range to kill. So either way my instincts were right, it was definitely a range.
i swear to god this is one of the hardest pokemon games there is maybe pokemon stadium 2 is a little harder just on how much of an advantage the computer has i swear it cheats

Hydro Pump's hidden effect:
100% hit rate against Werster.
50% crit rate against Werster.
In this case, 60% crit rate. 😂😂
Kingdra: Hydro Pump 0% hit rate against Mirror coat
