Day #7,471: I wait eagerly for the first documented case of a human being hitting thunder in Stadium 2 against an NPC, but morale is running out as quickly as supplies. I fear this winter may be my last.
Now Claude here Isn't top tier But RNG Will make Werster be in envy First the bite, it'll be a cinch Sandslash can't move, cuz it flinched! The shrew is stuck, no where to go! A reset is a must, Werster does know He sends Hitmonlee, thinking it'll do But surfs kill it, toodle loo! He gets down to Sandslash, losing again Vaporeon drowns it, 10 out of 10! Another fail, that'll waste time Werster just feeling out of his rhyme He tries Monlee again, but the opponent had a band The Sneasel just crit, the Sneasal still stands Monlee goes, and Sandslash gets weak His frustration grows, unlike his streak Speaking of which, Delibird comes about Frustrations a move, sending Sandslash out He counters with Voltorb, sending a bolt But Claude switches out, sending a Jolt It wittles the ball down, but the fox is gone Now for Delibird....how long has this gone on!? Voltorb tries to thunder twice Sadly for Werster, it was no dice The bird beats him with his own medicine Frustrations ironically not for Werster to win Next round Werster almost wins, till he sees the Blastoise Missing thunder again, no time to rejoice Voltorb goes down, then Monlee And thus, another non victory
And as I sit here, bored and weary Of watching a Werster eye's so teary Patient that I'd see this man achieve one world record more Then suddenly, I heard a tapping Pitter patter my heart was slapping Would Werster win this round and more? RNG answered: Never more.
So is this just bad RNG? Or is it genuinely rigged? I can never tell with the Stadium games, they're so poorly documented that you can't even find a list of the technical differences between R1 and R2 in either game.
As someone who's played both games a LOT, I am confident that they're not rigged. Also, the differences between Round 1 and Round 2 are known, Round 2 is the same, but the oppponents have different Pokemon, different held items, different movesets, different DVs, different Stat EXP and different AIs. Less is known about Challenge Cup, but it seems that in Round 2 the opponents Pokemon will have on average higher DVs and Stat EXP whilst you will have on average lower DVs and Stat EXP. Also, in Round 2 the opponents in Challenge Cup have more balanced teams a lot of the time, meaning that in some cases they have to deviate from their programmed strategy (for example, the paralysis trainer in Round 2 can have Pokemon who can't paralyse, and the mono-Flying trainer can have non-Flying types, and so on).
Ok, I know what speedrunning is and I saw plenty of Werster's videos, but I've never played this particular game, so I gotta ask - why the unreliable thunder instead of thunderbolt on Voltorb?
In the Pokemon Stadium games(PS1/PS2) for the N64 the players were supposed to use their Pokemon caught in RBY/GSC respectively. Since Nintendo figured that not all people purchasing PS1/PS2 would have both the GB games as well as the Transfer Pack, they gave players the ability to add in so called "rental Pokemon", maybe also to help people out if they were lacking a good, trained Pokemon for a certain role/with a certain typing, etc. . These Pokemon were usually underpowered compared to what a ingame trained Pokemon looked like, and the moveset was fixed for that Pokemon based on which Cup you were entering. As a rule of thumb, the first evolutionary stage would supposedly get access to the more powerful 120 Base power moves, sometimes even nice coverage moves to make up for the lower stats(especially Speed is very important because it determines who gets to strike first). To give you an example, Staryu would get access to Surf, Psychic and Thunderbolt, whereas Starmie would have to stick with Bubble Beam and Psybeam with no electric move. While Starmie would get First Strike Advantage on a bigger assortment of foes, it loses out on more powerful moves(even though it has a higher SpAtt) and coverage. I have not played PS2 myself, but knowing what PS1's rental Pokes were like, I assume that Werster is probably opting for Voltorb over Electrode because Electrode's Electric move is Spark as opposed to Thunder or Thunderbolt, maybe only Thundershock.
That's why they gave rentals bad movesets eg thunder instead of thunderbolt, so you would be encouraged to purchase your own copy of the Pokemon game to create better ones, increasing sales for Nintendo.
I have never in my life seen someone get worse pokemon RNG than you ngl Edit: I commented like halfway in, but god-DAMN what was that 6 total thunders that missed consecutively? No wonder they upped the accuracy of thunder in later gens holy fuck, Stadium had such shitty ass movesets lol
@Andrew Miller yes he does, this isn't Challenge Cup. Werster is a perfectionist with his routing so there is definitely a reason for him using Voltorb over Electrode, what specifically I don't know. If I had to guess the Electrode doesn't have either Mirror Coat and/or Explosion/Self Destruct.
@@mjf2891 The fact you asked this means you havent. That level is entirely why Vaporeon was faster. They have the same base speed, the difference was their levels (and that Sandslash was a rental).
@@bryanc1772 ... okay I was joking but I didn't realize that non-rental pokemon were even an option in Stadium, I thought the campaign was exclusively rentals I assume that it only takes custom sets from RBY/GSC. I saw a Skyward Sword run that basically just used a glitch to copy a pre-made save file at the final boss onto a new one... it seems kind of illegitimate, like building a team on the Gameboy but only starting the timer for the N64 gameplay. I respect the rental decision.
@@alexread6767 Werster decides to use Rentals. It’s not hard nowadays to build a team from GSC that are pretty optimal for stadium battles. It definitely would make things a lot easier. But GB Pokémon are not an option in Challenge Cup

After you're finished speedrunning, you should write a book on zen meditation to relieve stress and frustration.
Scott McKewl lol traumatize him with delibird frustration
