  • Part 1 of 3 of Giclée printing and stretching of fine art canvas. Printing using a Canon printer with pigment inks and stretching onto Hahnemuhle fine art canvas. David has been printing Melody's paintings using this process since 2003, at that time giclée printing was just becoming available for artists to self publish their work. Part 2 & 3 now available

    I have an old Epson 9800 myself. I have had it from new but it has been lightly used and I do the odd print for people now and again. I used to print work for other artists but it is a labour of love and not a money spinner.
    I always use a purdy brush and gingerly apply the first coat of a waterbased varnish. I have used as many as three coats and it makes the canvas look like it is leather. Varnishing also lifts the colours.

    Hi
    Can I ask you how much you have paid for this Canon IPF8300 printer or know how much it's worth today. I can't seem to find an accurste price on the internet.
    Do you also know if there are some printers out there on budget that print 24-44" that you recommend. Like the HP z3200 or the Epson stylus pro 9600?

      I'm not sure now, had it a while, previously an epson, both good. Usually they offer deals on new printers at the end of the financial year. Have a look at Fotospeed, but look around, plentyof suppliers. Sorry I would be guessing.

      I use Hahnemuhle Protective Spray. The spray is a totally clear lacquer that gives some mechanical protection (just protects the ink surface, not a lot of protection but I do tell people they can wipe over the picture with a damp cloth), it's main purpose is to protect a canvas from UV light. It is only needed on canvas that is not framed with a glass. Hahnemuhle is quite expensive, does several large pictures per 400ml can, other makes are available but I have no experience with those.

      Hi Lori, lost it after a PC problem, when I recovered it I thought it a bit too long. Nearly finished will publish it soon. It has lots of information if you are starting out, feel free to ask questions. David

    What type of Paper is this?

      Hi, I use eithe Hahnemuhle canvas artist, or Fotospeed Renaissance, I prefer Hahnemuhle but it's more expensive. Fotospeed will send a sample pack of canvases, worth trying as it's a personal choice. Hope that helps, David

      @@melodyartporlock Thank You. Can you tell me how much per print costs? Any estimate? If you have printer and material, then how much it costs per print on an average?

    • @melodyartporlock
      @melodyartporlock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@oldxgold1672 Not sure, in terms of our own photos and art prints the mark up is sufficient to make costs insignificant. If you are printing for other people then best look at some of the print shops one sees in towns or online. David

      Look at both Epson and Canon, my printer is now obsolete, don't know the price of a replacement, but look towards the end of the financial year when they have deals

      If the quality looks poor it will be down to the GoPro video. All prints are scanned with a large scanner, colour calibrated, file sizes of 1GB or more are normal. Thank you for your comment, but you are mistaken.
