An oil painting commission
An introduction to Melody's latest oil painting, followed by the presentation to Andy and Janet who commissioned the painting. The painting is a view from their home looking across Porlock Bay to Hurlstone Point. This is one of the iconic views to be found in Exmoor National Park, situated in the South West of England. Their home has been in the family for many years, but now ready to move from the area they wanted a lasting memory that a photo could not do justice to.

Porlock Living Nativity 2022
มุมมอง 194ปีที่แล้ว
Porlock is a lovely village in the heart of Exmoor National Park. The village is very active and the latest of these things is this Living Nativity. Moving through the village from the very dark museum garden, where we meet Mary and the angel Gabriel. Mary and Joseph visit two of the hotels in the village until being directed to the stable, which in fact is the village cider press. On the way w...
Wow! Coming Home to Our New Kitchen
มุมมอง 223ปีที่แล้ว
Returning from holiday to our new kitchen. Having left HDM Kitchens of Taunton with the keys we were excited to find out how they had transformed our tired old kitchen. Actually, we were both excited and nervous, had we made the right choices, would the colours work. Horatiu, the owner, was equally nervous wondering how we would react, Horatiu had wanted to be there when we arrived home, but in...

The platinum jubilee being celebrated in Porlock in Exmoor National Park. A sunny day and a lot of good humour. I suspect prince Louis would have preferred the races and other events in Porlock.
A Father's Love a painting by Melody Hawtin
มุมมอง 1232 ปีที่แล้ว
A Fathers Love is a painting of an Exmoor National Park Red Stag. These are the largest wild animals in Britain and roam freely in the hills just a short walk from where we live in Porlock. We are just a week away from Easter Sunday and it seems an appropriate time for Melody to describe her painting and her thinking behind the painting. Melody studied Art and Art History at Winchester School o...
Applying Gold Leaf to a painting or giclee print - Melody Hawtin - Melody Art in Porlock
มุมมอง 2712 ปีที่แล้ว
Applying 24ct Gold Leaf to a painting or giclee print. In this video Melody is working on "Crossing The Channel With Angels" this is a giclee print that she previously finished with oil paint and is now adding the gold leaf as per the original. These are brilliant techniques to take a giclee print to a new dimension. As with many of Melody's paintings she has Christian music playing in the back...

Please look out for our next video when Melody will be describing how she applies 24ct gold leaf to this painting. Today we join Melody, as a fly on the wall, we get to see how and where she works. Whether an original painting or, in this case a Giclee print on canvas, Melody works with her music...

An autumn trip over Exmoor National Park, starting out on Ley Hill above Porlock Bay and on towards Dunkery Beacon. This is probably the final trip out in our trusty Toyota Surf before advertising it for sale, rather sad as the car has such character.

      If the quality looks poor it will be down to the GoPro video. All prints are scanned with a large scanner, colour calibrated, file sizes of 1GB or more are normal. Thank you for your comment, but you are mistaken.

    I have an old Epson 9800 myself. I have had it from new but it has been lightly used and I do the odd print for people now and again. I used to print work for other artists but it is a labour of love and not a money spinner. I always use a purdy brush and gingerly apply the first coat of a waterbased varnish. I have used as many as three coats and it makes the canvas look like it is leather. Varnishing also lifts the colours.

    what is that spary after printing? what for it is used

      I use Hahnemuhle Protective Spray. The spray is a totally clear lacquer that gives some mechanical protection (just protects the ink surface, not a lot of protection but I do tell people they can wipe over the picture with a damp cloth), it's main purpose is to protect a canvas from UV light. It is only needed on canvas that is not framed with a glass. Hahnemuhle is quite expensive, does several large pictures per 400ml can, other makes are available but I have no experience with those.

    Any specific reason why you don't use wood glue anywhere on the frames?

    • @melodyartporlock
      @melodyartporlock ปีที่แล้ว

      With a stretched canvas it is possible it will stretch or sag with time or different environmental conditions. Canvas stretchers come with wedges to open up the corners and re tension the canvas. So, I wouldn't glue or staple the corners as it would defeat the object of the wedges. Hope this helps, David

    Hi Can I ask you how much you have paid for this Canon IPF8300 printer or know how much it's worth today. I can't seem to find an accurste price on the internet. Do you also know if there are some printers out there on budget that print 24-44" that you recommend. Like the HP z3200 or the Epson stylus pro 9600?

    • @melodyartporlock
      @melodyartporlock 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure now, had it a while, previously an epson, both good. Usually they offer deals on new printers at the end of the financial year. Have a look at Fotospeed, but look around, plentyof suppliers. Sorry I would be guessing.

    • @melodyartporlock
      @melodyartporlock 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oldxgold1672 Not sure, in terms of our own photos and art prints the mark up is sufficient to make costs insignificant. If you are printing for other people then best look at some of the print shops one sees in towns or online. David
