    My bike spent weeks in the shop after a routine tuneup resulted in a rough running motor at cruising speed. I finally suggested replacing the new plugs with different new plugs. Ta-da! Problem solved!

    The process of elimination. However, very few have buddies who will let them take their bike apart to test their own bike............. Doc means throw parts at it until it works right.

    Had a 74 nova. Points ignition and all that good stuff. Coil went bad. Replaced it with a brand new one. New one was bad. So it does happen

    Hey Doc, luv the channel!! Ughhh, However I have a 2012 Switchback with a 4way flasher problem. Turn signals and all other electrical working fine. When I depress L&R buttons together 4 way flashers do not function . Is there a relay or flasher somewhere????

    Currently dealing with loss of data from both the Speedo and TSM on my 2012 fltrx. Codes u1064 and u1097. 15A battery fuse blows as well. Having a hard time

      By any chance you changed handlebars? Or headlight? This moves key wires going to the hand controls. I always ask, what was the last thing your friend did to your bike before this happened?…..Doc

    Hi Doc,
    I am installing Kuryakyn bullet turn signal light bar on 07 Heritage classic but I cannot figure out how to connect wire for license plate light that is in the turn signal bar. In the instructions it only says that those wires go on base of the tail light bulb (base plate). Very poor instructions. When I spoke to the tech guy at Kuryakyn, he got frustrated too and told me to tap into the running power wire. Please help. I would like to connect this to Custom Dynamics pro beam tail light that has black red and orange wires.

    Here's a question... got an 07 fxd new battery and new starter, and I've resurfaced the ground cables.... my problem is I got to start it only sometimes its got a dead start after the motor started turning over ?? Its not the compensater because it doesn't have the clunk.... help me out....

    04 FLHRI....Complete engine shutdown while riding...Coasted to the side of the road, then shut the ignition switch, and then back on to restart it, and all was well...I took no chances and ASAP replaced the CKP. Why? Because I had 2 cars with similar symptoms , and both were failing CKP's.

    Great video Doc! I would like to suggest a topic. I would like to hear your thoughts on using a reuseable oil filter (like the HiFlo reusable oil filter) for the twin cam engines.

      From mild to old faithful. Early Sportsters with oil dip sticks held in with rubber will blow out. Late models with screw in will create pressure in the oil tank. If sufficient pressure accumulates the walls of the tank could expand but more than likely oil will puke out your breather bolts, pushrod O rings and any other place that will allow the motor to breath. When you over fill it blocks the breather hose coming from the motor. Thanks ~ Doc

      @@joseavila7211 Noise in the Lower end? These are questions you should ask your local dealer with someone that can listen, diagnose and explain. Lower end noises from the left side point to primary chain needing adjustment, front motor sprocket needing tightened or transmission issues. Rare to hear lower end noises come from right side, but cams/lifters can become noisy. All these reasons are not caused by over filling oil tank. Thanks ~ Doc

    man ,i just did that,replaced the sator,rectifier,new battery,took my time did it right,and now my 30amp fuse keeps blowing,now am brain dead,I found a short under the rear fender to the tail light,but still blowing 30 amp fuse,bike starts up,when I plug the rectifier in it blows the 30 amp fuse,been four days,now am starting to burn out,??????????????

      Could be a bad part. I an assuming you did not have this issue before you replaced all these parts🤷‍♂️. So start with the stator. Test it. Then remove the regulator and wire going to the main fuse. Look for a pinched wire. Did you upgrade the charging system that needs a higher fuse capacity? It might be time to bring this to a Master Tech….Doc

    03 softail injection , starter doesn't crank hard enough, no spark(one spark rarely when let go of starter switch), new ckp and ignition coil , constant power at relay to ignition coil drops from 12 to 9v when cranking , is or can the starter solenoid draw too much power?

      Yes it can. But my suspicions point to battery. Not enough CCA and battery cables are corroded and loose. Thanks ~ Doc

      Hello from across the pond. Yes most hints and tips are applicable to a Triglide. Of coarse there is enough special areas on your bike that Harley-Davidson created a supplement Service Manual to guide us techs. Thanks ~ Doc

    May I suggest a subject for your a future video-discussion. I recently purchased a H-D fancy Gear Shift Linkage. I was told by the dealer/tech (and was very careful to) line up the front and rear to the exact length of the original. When I tightened the rear bolt & nut and moved to the front of the gear shift I accidently pulled the gear shift at the transmission into the next gear. I did not think then it would be a problem. Then I attached the front to the toe shifter arm and thought I was done. It was when I tried to shift back into Neutral or any other gear that I realized I was stuck. I tried rocking it, clutching, cursing, nuthin worked. I had to have my bike towed to the dealer to get it unstuck. If you please ....How did the mechanic unstick my gear shifter ..... it has been REALLY bugging me !!! The mechanic fixed it NO CHARGE ..wrote it up as shifter adjustment. You guys are the best !

    I have an issue my positive terminal smoked when starting my 13 street bob . No sound when I go to strat the bike , my fuel pump primes and nothing after that. Code reader says front and rear ignition coils open ? Could this cause the bike not to start. I cleaned the grounds and starter connections. Any help would be great.

      This got serious when the positive terminal smoked! That could have taken out sensitive electrical components
      Like the coil or ignition. If you have a Service Manual, follow the flow charts. If not it is time to take it to a trusted Tech…Doc

      @@LowCountryHarleyDavidson thanks Doc , I ordered a new ignition coil will try this weekend .Im new to Harley when you mention ignition, are you referring the ignition switch on the tank, or ignition timing , if so I can't find it on the manual I have. just shows me plugs , coils,and starter into.

    Here’s one for the engineers how come the Boom Box on 14 through 19 models are susceptible to heat. When I ride in heat over 100 degrees the screen goes blank. If you shut it down for 30 seconds it comes back on. I am not the only one to experience this. It’s like when your iPhone gets too hot it does the same thing

      Andrew Trapani Luckily we rarely have over a 100 degrees in Northern Illinois and my 2018 has never experienced that heat or ever shut down.

      Tom B. We rarely get it here also. My 18 FLHTK has only done it once, but I have friends who this has happened to two or three time on their 15 Street Glides

    IF I think May ECM may be bad on my 2010 Limited FLHTK. Can I buy it and replace it myself with out taking it to a dealership? I have replaced crank sensor, spark plugs/wires,and coil pack. Still wil not start. All parts replaced were stock Harley-Davidson

    07 street bob has no power when you turn the ignition on no loghts nothing. Any ideas

      The question is too broad. I am sure you have checked the Battery, connections, power and ground cables, main and all other fuses. The 07 has plenty of areas that wires could be compromised. Even the ignition switch could be bad. That reminds me to check the connection at ignition switch. If all above sounds confusing, take your bike to a trusted tech….Doc

      Remove the outer fairing. The module is fixed to the top fork bracket on FLHT/C/U models and the right side of the radio bracket on FLTR. Thanks ~ Doc

    I have a problem with my 93 Harley sportster I have changed the taillight so plugged the wires and it's was fine so on ride to work my tech stopped working and the tail light stopped working so I toke test light out checking the pos and negative on the wires everything looked good I set my test light down I hit with my elbow remind you still attached to negative on battery and so the test light fell touched the fender and it lit up so I picked it and point on the frame it lit up too so looked battery ground and is attached to the engine but no ground to the frame I been busting my head on this toke my bike apart and all wires are good. I have no idea what to look for next. What I am doing wrong here thanks

      Are you sure test light attached to negative terminal? The battery ground wire attaches to the engine rear mounting bolts, and the frame does the same in front of the rear fender, down below at the engine mount.
      Is the tail light custom? Sometimes the wiring is opposite from HD. Remove the last item you installed and see if everything returns to normal. I have seen once, where the voltage regulator went bad and caused some crazy polarity issues. I have also seen owners pinch wires when installing back rest or rear carriers because wires are in the rear fender side panels so a bolt can slice or pinch wires. Look closely under your fender.     The #1 thing is finding the information about the thing is not available w/o a manual. The manual will cost you dearly. It really pisses me off. I bought the machine but getting a schematic? On no, forget that unless you pay a bunch of $$$ for something of unknown usefulness until you buy it. I know electrics but hate whole-heartedly the extortion process of the OEM. It is disgusting.
