  • 5/28/22. There are so many great hikes down off of Hole in the Rock Road, this one notwithstanding. I had not done this before so wanted to check it off my list, and it did not disappoint. The views from the top are spectacular, the entry through the Crack is fun, and Jacob Hamlin Arch is impressive. It's fun climbing up under it as well. And the ascent out of the gulch is fun up the slickrock.

Thank you for this interesting video. I would not be able to complete this hike myself and enjoyed the vicarious experience.

I am planning to hike this route with my 13 year old son this fall but on all trails it says ropes are required but several comments say you dont need ropes. Do you think we would be okay to do this loop with no ropes?

let me know if you were able to make a decision from the video -- as you can see there was a fixed rope but honestly I could've gotten up with without the rope

ropes were there -- although you could find a way up without them. My understanding is that they are always there. But if you're comfortable with steep slickrock you could get up without any. Even if I had a rope I went down the crack and up from the arch -- so would have no way to anchor a rope if I needed one
