Best but worst time to do Flatiron is after a rain storm. All the waterfalls are going, it’s beautiful, but it makes the hike a little more challenging. I’d like to say you made damn good time up that trail! You sound like me sucking wind though! Thanks for sharing!
@@HikingEngineer Great isn’t it?! There’s an even better canyon just east of the Flatiron trail for waterfalls after a rain, but I can’t remember the name of it.
@@HikingEngineer That’s the one I’m thinking of! Yea, if you time it right it’s literally nothing but waterfalls. We’re heading back in this weekend to do some caving near the Kearny mine. It’s not on any list or map but we found it back in the 80s.
WOW! What a super amazing video! Thank you so much for documenting this! I have hiked all over the lower part of Lost Dutchman and only dreamed of going to Flatiron. I have multiple handicaps and that hike would kill me. Your endurance is epic! : )
My shoes fell apart on the way down from the top of Flatiron and i had to hike down half barefoot/half with make shift sandals from the remnants of my boots. It was insane. Was also racing the Sun to get down bc we got there a lil too late. Luckily, i was able to find a mysterious pile of clothes somewhere half way down with a size appropriate pair of shoes. Literally no signs of anyone around as if they got abducted out of their clothes or something 😮😅😂 oh and i also smoked DMT at the peak of Flatiron when i was there…. It was an experience to say the least.
This was a great video and a real treat to watch. You showed the trail and other views which is what I want to see. So many people keep their camera on their faces it is hard to see anything. I subscribed, hit the bell and a thumbs up! In my opinion you sure earned it! Please stay safe out there and keep up the awesome videos! R.J.
thank you for the kind words! that is the intent of my channel to show people what the hikes actually look like, so hopefully you find some other videos useful as well
I can't say I've ever read/heard of a plane crash in/on/around Flatiron -- I would think that would be common knowledge with how popular a trail it is. The one on Humphreys is pretty common knowledge
@@HikingEngineer That hike up Humphries is a HUMP! Did it a few months ago. As an old guy it kicked my ass! I did it back in the 80s, but between then and now it got a lot higher! In my defense we had done the lookout tower on Mt Elden the day before.
Spectacular view, thank you for the share!
Nice video. Really captures the difficulty of this hike. I finished it 2 days ago and my legs are killing me.

I liked doing it in the rain! I just don't have video of it

@@rvtech101 the popular ones are Massacre Grounds and Canyon of the Waterfalls, but they are north of flatiron off first water road

@@rvtech101 not familiar with that but I'll look it up

aw thank you! Yeah it's a tough one even for those without handicaps!
This is super cool. Great job capturing the essence of the hike. I can’t believe people bring their dogs on this trail. Super good job.

Damn .... You are a fast hiker!
I try! haha
Do you know where the t-38 plane crash site is? I heard there was a cross there for the single pilot lt. Stone. Is it by where you were in this video?

Happened in Hog Canyon, just southeast of Flatiron. The little memorial is an additional couple minutes away off the regular trail.
Thanks!

I pay the $10 because the meth heads who live in the wash will break in to your car! They patrol the park .
true, my car has been broken into before in this area!
