We Made the Switch to Nitromousse!

    [The following is an excerpt from our write-up, read the whole review at adventurerig.com/nitromousse] This fall we made a huge switch on our dirt bikes that we are really excited about. We finally switched from traditional tubes in our tires to Nitromousses. With this switch comes many benefits but one of our favorites is the fact that we can “say goodbye to flats.” Not only do we dig the feel of the Nitros, we are now carrying less with us out on the trail. We should’ve made the switch sooner, but we’re glad we’re here now.
    If you’re reading this review, you likely know what a mousse bib is but there are a few things to mention about Nitromousse and why their technology stands out. Nitromousses aren’t just simple foam inserts, they’re made with proprietary materials that Nitromousse has developed based on performance and durability. The foam tubes are made from “elastomers that have millions of nitrogen charged micro-cells” (nitromousse.com). No matter what you throw at your tires, the Nitromousses will take the abuse.
    Have you changed your fair share of tubes either in your shop or out on the trail (hello pinching the tube when you’re grabbing your last bite)? You’re going to be pretty skeptical the first time you go out and ride without an extra tube on hand. It’s really wild to have a totally, 100% flat-proof system but also one that feels good and performs well. Leaving extra tubes at home feels pretty great the first time you do it.
    There are two different options for Nitromousse so you can choose the best feel for your riding style. The Platinum model is great for the mixed rider, meaning someone who rides single track but also gets out on those dirt backroads. Platinum is a 10-12 PSI feel. The Plushie is geared more towards technical single track riding and is a 6-8 PSI feel. We opted for a Platinum in the front tire and a Plushie in the rear. So far it’s been working out really well for us. We are typically riding technical desert single track with the occasional fast and flowy dirt trail. The “feels like” PSI on both the Platinum (front) and Plushie (rear) are our typical pressure settings. We haven’t put enough miles on yet to wear out a Nitro, but once we do we’ll update this video with a pinned comment talking about the longevity of the Nitromousse. Note that there are different sizes depending on the tires you are running. You must get the right size! Be sure to triple check the fitment before ordering.
    Overall, we’re really psyched on our Nitromousses and can’t wait to get out to the desert this spring with them. We’re also excited to see how much life we get out of them (it will be different for everyone) and will be sure to update this once we’ve worn them out. If you’re ready to never have to fix a flat, it’s time to switch to Nitromousse. Be sure to head to their website to check out the fitment guide and if you want to save even more time, check out the Rabaconda 3-Minute Tire Changer.
    *We received this gear for free in exchange for a review, however, it’s important to know that all thoughts are our own. Also, we are really excited that Nitromousse wanted to work with us but we were ready to make the switch regardless and would’ve bought this system if they didn’t want to work together.

    Planning on the RIdaho Grit 1 this summer and considering the Nitro. I'm confident the front will be fine but worried about the rear with the long high speed transfer sections. I'm not planning on changing a tire in route unless a failure. Also, we are going to run the Divide route from Eureka back down to our starting point so there will be an extra 1000 miles south. Have you had any failures that would change your mind for a trip like this? Riding a YZ450FX

      It seems like we are getting about two tires per Mousse. And when we change the tire the second time the Mousse is noticeably softer. That’s probably about 2,000-2,300 miles per mousse. I think you could do it but it may be worth a call to them and ask their opinion as well. I’d hate to steer you wrong and have you find out in the middle of it.

    I’m interested in this idea. How many miles can i expect to get if i lube well when I install ? Have you reached the limit yet? How much time at highway speeds can they go?

    • @AdventureRig
      @AdventureRig  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just reached the limit on my rear mousse. I logged over 1000 miles on it. It will depend on your riding environment. Most of my milage is flowy singletrack or slow technical trails. Don't really cruise dirt highways much. Per their literature - "Nitromousse is FOR OFF-ROAD USE ONLY! Nitromousse is NEVER to be used for on-road, or onhighway use. Do NOT use Nitromousse at speeds above 75mph, as it will lead to premature wear and can cause total failure."

    Still running them? How are they holding up? Do you feel the dead/heavy feel vs tubes or tubliss?

    • @AdventureRig
      @AdventureRig  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Still running them and just recently put new mousses in. Honestly they lasted much longer than we originally thought. We don't feel a dead/heavy feel with these.

    Would you recommend thse for a dual sport? For instance, a '22 KLX300 currently with Dunlop D606's front / rear that does pavement about 30% of the time, trails 70%??

    • @AdventureRig
      @AdventureRig  ปีที่แล้ว

      My only concern would the limit they impose on them for speed.

    • @Snappedaxles
      @Snappedaxles ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They can’t be used on the road. The heat generated will destroy them. I’m pretty sure this is the recommendation for al mouses?

  • @crazybalony
    @crazybalony ปีที่แล้ว

    How are they holding now? When have you changed them, if you had to, how many kms did you salap on them? In thise total amount, how many times have you re-lubed?

    • @AdventureRig
      @AdventureRig  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We never did end up re-lubing them and put about 1100 miles on the front before it needed to be changed. The rear was changed after 1500 miles.

      @@AdventureRig okay, so this is quite significant! So you recommend these bibs over the Tubliss system any day?

    • @antonsyd7077

      @@crazybalonyIt all depends on preferences, but at least in theory tubliss can add more firmness to mousse after break-in period

    OK, after a year now what are your overall impressions? Are NitroMousse something you will run longterm? Any thoughts on occasional pavement use, say 15-20%? Thanks. I’m very interested.

    • @AdventureRig
      @AdventureRig  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We still love them. However, they do get expensive as you rack up the miles. We run on the pavement as well at times and have not had any issues. Heat really seems to kill them.

      Thanks. Appreciate that good feedback. I’m going to give them a try; at least on the front. @@AdventureRig

    How often do you have to apply lube? I assume you have to remove mousse to do this ?

    • @AdventureRig
      @AdventureRig  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We only applied it during install but I have heard of some that will periodically take them out to apply lube with the goal to extend their life.

    • @mikeaust80

      Set the wheel up with a valve (I use Presta). Use syringe and some rubber tubing to add lube no need to remove the tyre

      They’ve been great. At some point in the spring I’ll probably need to replace them with a new setup.
