    Just hard to pay that kind of premium for an item with a (sometimes extremely) limited life span. It's like buying a new tubliss system every few months depending on how you ride them.

    Jeff, I ride tubless as well and have been since they inception, I'm up here in the PNW, and ride upper corner and canada, so I might be running 2-4 in rear, and 6-8 in front if its greasy, so my question are there specific mousse bibs that equate to tire pressue? Like I'm interested but don't want anything that feels like 10-12lbs in front or back, cheers, appreciate all your info!

    I think the pro racers are putting time line on the mousses because I’ve had the same ones front and rear for 2 years, this year is the first time I took them out to clean and lube them and they look good for another year, I have all my holes and spoke nipples closed off so no water gets in, but some people just don’t like them, I’ve had no problems at all

    I am interested on how well they hold up in rocky terrain, I have had two flats in the last 6 weeks with conventional tubes. In all the years of riding I can count the number of flats on one hand. The Michelin’s seem a bit soft for the kind of riding I am doing.

    Hey Jeff, Would the Nitro Mousse be a good option for a Baja ride? Going to ride the whole length Baja in like 8 days. Little Over 1200 miles. Thanks.

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure. Heat is the enemy for mousses and in Baja you have to get on some pavement (which creates heat) and 1200 is a lot of miles. They would probably get the job done BUT you would be rolling the dice a little. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

    • @matthewcox9624

      Jeff Slavens Thanks for the info sir. Thought I might try them because the guy leading the ride uses the Michelin bibs in all his rental bikes and has said he has had good luck with them. He said one of the reasons why he has had good luck with them is when they are on pavement they keep the speeds down under 50 mph.

      Yes, Fasst Simple Solution to go with the Flexx handlebars. Cycra is a great brand but the CRM Ultras are long (which make them bend easily) and I don't care for the mounts. The regular Cycras with BRP mounts are much stronger.

    I have three bikes. 300, 350, 450. I have 4 sets of rims. I have all four fronts with Mousse, one rear with Mousse. All currently Michelin, but moving to Nitro Mousse. I respect Mr. Slavens, but he's got no first hand experience. I have not experienced the "dead feel", I have had zero problems with not lubricating between rides, and I've ridden mine at 70mph plus at 107 degrees fahrenheit. I love TUbliss, and think Nuetech is an incredibly well run business, so I'm very curious to see how they work. According to Nuetech, the Nitro Mousse lasts longer, can handle heat better, and does better on pavement cornering, and has a "livelier" feel to them. Either way, I'm already sold on Mousse, and I'm only a recreational rider that puts 500 miles a month on my 3 bikes.

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dagster
      You've made a very big assumption when you state that I have no first hand experience. I've been in the MC industry for 46 years, worked for the KTM, Husqvarna, Suzuki and Yamaha factory teams and still work for Yamaha's off-road team. I've put many miles on bib mousses and had many conversations with the factory teams and retail consumers about mousses and the dead feel is a comment I have heard many times and have experienced "first hand". I never said the dead feel is a bad thing but it is something that some riders don't like yet others like the dead feel. My many years of experience gives me plenty of credibility when I say that Michelin mousses have a dead feel compared to tubes or TUbliss.
      I am not anti-mousse. There is a definite need for them in the racing world and many other applications but for what I do I prefer to run lower pressures for better compliance and increased traction.
      Also, I've never said that they must be lubed between rides but I have said that some guys do lube them between rides as do some of the factory teams. Friction and the resulting heat are the Kryptonite of bib mousses.
      Your comments are welcome and I'm glad you are putting miles on your scoots but the "first hand" comment is a bit out of line.
      No hard feelings,
      JS

      I must have misunderstood. My apologies. A point I'd like to make about mousse and tubliss, is that they are technical products that are designed to make your life easier and more enjoyable on a motorcycle. A person could easily get their head caught up in the technical details, then get buyer aversion. TUbliss I've found has some rules you just shouldn't break, namely not being too low on rocks, but the mousse is as braindead a decision as there is. If you don't want to worry about flats and fiddling with psi etc, then mousse makes great sense for the recreational rider like me. I suggest folks "give em a try" and you'll probably find it's not so complicated and technical as it all sounded before you hit the trails.

    You guys advertise a liquid silicone mousse lube on your website. How does that hold up compared to the lube that comes with the mousse?

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both lubes have similar outcome. The silicone is easier to apply and some guys install a valve stem and inject it.

    • @fnalley1761
      @fnalley1761 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the quick reply! It does seem like you could spray the silicone for easier application or saturate a sponge for the tire carcass.

    • @wfodavid
      @wfodavid 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was just thinking that about the valve stem. I agree about the Michelins having a dead feel compared to the Nitro. For me, much easier to feel in the rear. Traction has always been good or better with the Michelins. I'd like to know if there is a weight difference. Not ready to try the tubeless yet. Thanks for the vids!

    Jeff,
    I'm using the 120/110/18 shinko 505 cheater. I put the same size nitro mousse in and the bead didn't seat correctly. After a few hours the bead came completely off the bead on about halfway around the rim, made the rear end squirm around badly. The chart you speak of, is it available now? I'm wondering if that tire required a larger mousse? Thanks, love your vids

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Brent:
      The bead not seating correctly was a red flag that the mousse size was incorrect. We've had the sizing chart on our site for a few months >>>> slavensracing.com/wp-content/uploads/Nitromousse-Fitment-Chart-7-2018.pdf

    • @brentking283

      @@brianwilson1145 I ended up putting about 6 inch piece of old mousse in and forced the fit. When I changed tires I went with one size bigger mousse than was recommended and haven't had any more trouble since. IE 130 tire and 140 mousse, (IRC M5B) it's a bitch to mount but once the mousse breaks in it rides pretty plush. Not sure how it would work on the shinko

    I would like to know your opinion on this idea. I'm thinking of running a nitro mousse in the front and a Michelin in the rear. I figured that the nitro would help keep the front end a bit more lively, and use the Michelin in the rear to absorb more of the impacts to stop it from getting to squirl when going over rock terrain. would like to know your opinion on this set up.

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brandon,
      If you are racing, mousses are the way to go because having a flat would kill your results. For trail riding I'm not a fan of giving up comfort, tire tread life and and traction so I use TUbliss. If you must use mousses, your plan sounds reasonable.

    What does it feel like psi wise? Like a 12 psi tube? Or 14? Or 10? Thanks!

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      With mousses the PSI feel is a moving target because it changes all the time. However the Nitro maintain a consistent feel much longer than other brands. They claim a 13PSI feel but that depends on what tire you use it in.

    • @PrimalEnduro
      @PrimalEnduro 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I typically run a Dunlop D803 trials tire in the rear @ 10psi for my slow rocky north eastern single track, I've had great luck with UHD tubes and Tubliss. On my last ride I got a flat with the Tubliss and was able to plug it, but that tire is now not usable Tubliss (back to a UHD tube), since the plug really won't hold that well in that soft radial tire. The Nitro Mousse seems like a good product but will I loose the low pressure qualities that make the d803 work so well in my terrain? My other concern is some limited road use. We use short sections of road to connect single track, usually a couple of 2-3 mile stretches during the day with speeds around 45-50 mph. Is that a deal breaker with these?
