@@Sinraiser The only problem with that is Hayter voiced BB in Peace Walker (set in 1974) and Sutherland voiced him in Ground Zeroes (set in 1975). Nobody's voice is going to change that drastically in the span of less than a year.

Hayter is both a screen actor and screenwriter with notable works as XMen and Guyver. Seems pretty Hollywood to me. As much as i love Kojima, he pissed me off over David. Maybe being let go by Konami and Death Stranding flopping is karma.

Correction: David Hayter himself says on a podcast that Kojima was never a fan of him and always tried to replace him, also he doesn't have anything against Sutherland and is aware that Big Boss and Solid Snake are different characters so it would make sense to replace him. He just thinks the situatuon could be handled more respectfully due to all the legacy and charism he built onto Solid Snake, cause by his POV Kojima just kicked his butt out.
I would argue that Snake being a clone of BB, it actually makes more sense for them to have similar voices, but I also acknowledge that Liquid's voice flies in the face of that anyway, so it is what it is.

Well, I side with Hayter on this issue but he still didn't handle it very well when he got fired. He kept posting about it on social media and even posted that photo of him with marker all over his face like "see I could do mocap too!!!!" I don't blame him for being pissed but he overreacted just a bit. But Kojima also made him re-audition to be snake for every new game and always wanted to replace him. I think Konami wanted to keep him because they knew how iconic he was to the character. David has acted in some movies. Also, I think he did the screenplay or something for MGS4 and I think he pushed back on some things Kojima wanted like at the end when Snake starts to shoot himself and there's a bang off-screen and it shows him still alive. Hayter tried to get Kojima to re-write that because it was dumb, and he's right, it was stupid. Hayter is also fluent in Japanese. I think he also took less pay for Twin Snakes in order to get more of the original cast re-hired. He also has played all of the games (except probably MGSV lol) so he is the *perfect* person to play Snake. Kojima just didn't like him because he always wanted a famous movie star to be the protagonist of his games which makes him seem so pathetic. Kojima is really creative but he is not a good writer lol. If he made a movie I'm sure it would suck.
I feel the need to point out that everyone who says that Hayter is Solid Snake and Sutherland is Big Boss probably haven't played Peacewalker. For that entire 30 hour game, which takes place literally a few weeks before MGSV, Hayter plays Big Boss! Every other character in Peacewalker who appears in MGSV has the same voice actor.

@@brandonlewisgaming6982To play Devil's Advocate, there is a fan theory that what we play in Ground Zeroes is actually Venom's implanted memory of the what happened at Camp Omega. Kaz has that line when you call him over comms about falling for Paz's lie about being a student who wants peace. And if you recall at the end of Peace Walker the big reveal is that Kaz knew all along about Paz and Galvez's true natures, so that line doesn't make sense. That line only makes sense if we consider that either Kojima Productions made a mistake with the continuity (which to be fair is probably the more likely option) or we play as the body double in GZ. To also support the idea that we play as the body double in GZ is the fact that Venom remembers Paz as the lie she portrayed throughout Peace Walker. And that would fit with that line since I think one of the cassette tapes mentions that they couldn't finish implanting Big Boss's memories to Venom so parts of the Medic still exist in his mind. Or I'm just reading way too much into it which is probs the case. Oh well.

David Hayter is actually a Hollywood screenwriter and has all the capabilities and know-how to write a coherent Metal Gear Solid game/movie if he chooses too.
He tried to have a MGS movie done for years. He was on board but the movie was in limbo for 15 years. David knows the lore, character and respect the fans. David even cut his own salary in Twin Snakes in exchange for having as many MGS cast return as possible.

Kojima was jealous of hayter getting attention for his work. That's why he kept trying to replace him in every game. Hayter said he had to re-audtion everytime.
I think Kiefer Sutherland delivered a great performance, but I do prefer David Hayter. However, I do also want to point out how pathetic it is to oversimplify what happened between Kojima and Konami. I'm not saying Kojima didn't make any mistakes with the development of Metal Gear Solid 5, but I wouldn't describe the situation as merely Konami firing him. They abused him. They locked him in a small office for several months with no contact with his team or anyone for that matter. They made his life a living hell so he would leave the company on his own. And even after that, when he started his new studio, Konami used their influence to block the studio from getting insurance. And it also shouldn't be forgotten that he isn't the only one of their employees they treated like absolute trash. It was basically common practice for them. It's interesting to see how many people can just ignore literal human rights violations when a bright shiny new toy is waved in front of their face.

Without short, a channel struggles to expand so my hands are kind of tied due to the current trends and algorithms. But I agree, it is a tremendous oversimplification. However, he did go over budget, and they did fire him, so I would argue it was factually accurate. He also unfairly got rid of Hayter, which I strongly disagree with, which was the focus of this video. My question is, which bit of the script would you have cut in order to expand in that section? I confess I struggled to decide.

It's clear he didn't handle his responsibilities as a producer very well and mismanaged the budget, and it's clear that his ambitions were far too high to be realistically realized in Metal Gear Solid 5. And even though I liked Kiefer Sutherland's performance in the game, I don't agree with the decision to fire David Hayter. But on the other hand, I think that what Konami did to Kojima and many of their other employees was far more reprehensible than the mistakes and poor decisions Kojima made. And I'm not sure what you mean when you ask what part I would cut out. If you're talking about your own video, that's hard to say. I understand that it's a short and that you probably would need a full video to discuss the Konami incident in a fitting manner but I'm not sure it would have taken much to briefly allude to it at least. In any case, I would have cut out the enemy of my enemy line because no matter what the situation is, Konami is not your friend. I'm glad they're reviving some of their legacy franchises and not just letting them rot and I'm glad they're making older games available to play on new consoles but none of that means that they are anyone's friend. They are still capable of mistreating their employees and screwing over paying customers. It's fine to give them a chance, but we need to reserve the right to call them out if they start down that path again. And I hate to sound cynical, but it's very likely that that will happen.

Well he's not revoicing lines in the game since they're just going to reuse the old voicework and since Jim Piddock(Major Zero) doesn't want to reprise the role since he feels his voice acting is too limited(not so much when you remember Kiefer as Venom). The only time they did that was having Para Medic's voice actress reprise a specific line on the port of MGS3 on the 3DS. But it's nice to see Hayter in the limelight marketing the remake.
Ironically for MGSV, not having Hayter or the third portion of the game kind of worked thematically. It was called Phantom Pain for a reason. To me the big boss arc ended in Peace Walker (I personally consider it being snake eater, portable ops then peace walker). I didn't need another game to justify big boss getting into Villain territory because it was hinted near the end of peace walker. Phantom Pain felt like the post-credits of "You're still here? go home the movie is over"... which I thought was the whole point of the game.
In a perfect world, they get Hayter for Ground Zeroes, say he has scheduling conflicts and can't play snake for Phantom Pain only for that last scene with the tape to have Hayters voice instead of Sutherlands

Someone who can emulate hayter voice and mannerism but with a flair of youth along with innocence behind voice. Think we remember Hayter saying that he never met Kojima personally. If you weigh that with the fact that everyone after Hayter (Sutherland, Reedus, Mikkelsen...) was flown out to Japan to meet with Kojima, and got to go on massive "bro dates"/shopping sprees with the man is a huge context clue as to what really happened.

Meanwhile a group of fans in Spain got the help of the original Snake's voice actor of the spanish version of Metal Gear Solid Alfonso Vallés (aka the spanish David Hayter) to dub the scenes of all Metal Gear Solid series. Konami_Spain was very excited about it.
Richard Doyle did a great job as Big Boss in mgs4, is like the game says. there can only be one room for snake and one for Big boss right? it's all about character change. His voice was great in Peace Walker but different than mgs3 cause as the years passed by for Big boss and smoking he needed to change for that reason. it's just the respect actors have for voice acting. Spain shoud've done the same.
@@Sinraiser It's not Spain's fault that the first Metal Gear Solid had an amazing Spanish voice acting and people were expecting the rest of the sequel to be the same. The country respects the work of the other voice actors but it also respects the work of an Spanish voice actor who is very well known for having done thousands of voice acting in videogames such as Metal Gear Solid, Left 4 dead 2, Portal 2, Alien colonial marines, Half-Life 2 espisode 2..., as well as tv series, films, etc. And this man has been changing his voice to adapt to Snake's aging as well. Like I said, this is a work of fans, it's not oficial and you cannot play the games in Spanish, it's just the cutscenes being uploaded on the internet. On another note, the people of Spain respects a lot of other voice actings and here's an example. Resident Evil games where always in English until RE6, when the remakes of RE2, RE3 and RE4 came out and Capcom gave the option to choose a language, everybody chose to play them in English instead of Spanish to honor the originals. In a summary, you should be happy to see people bringing life to legends in other languages besides English and keep the same level of epicness which usually never happens.

I feel Kojimbo could have had Hayter voice Venom in the intro up to the reveal, since Venom’s practically been brainwashed into thinking he’s Big Boss. Then when the truth is revealed in a later mission, have the voices swapped back to Sutherland as Venom & Hayter as Ishmael for all of the missions (including ones you’ve played previously). It’s also an unfinished game that turned out super well even with Konami pressuring Kojimbo. So I mean it’s always fun to speculate.
I really dont like how Kojima not only kept trying to replace hayter, but also hasnt invited any of the old cast to have roles in Death Stranding. It shows a real disrespect to the little guys who worked with him when no one else would. FOR SHAME!
I like the idea that Kojima got Sutherland to be Venom in MGSV just to nail the idea that Venom isn't Big Boss, but realistically it's just mainly his preference. It also sucks because Venom doesn't end up saying much throughout the whole game, making the choice so much weirder.
I think we forget that Kojima is a person like anybody else with hopes, dreams and ambitions. Having created so much iconic, genre-defining content, I think he just wanted something for himself, a sprinking of Hollywood in his games. Once he got it, he wasn't quite sure what to do with it lol
When you play MGSV and learn that your character wasn’t the real Big Boss then I feel like it always left the door open for David Hayter to return as the Real Snake Big Boss or Solid.

I couldn't agree more. It leaves me so drained arguing with ignorant newcomers to the series who just don't understand the lost potential. MGS's narrative got more convoluted and less engaging on a steady downward trajectory for 20 years, but at least each game offered a complete package of gameplay and story. MGS5 gameplay was so phenominal that it's still world class almost a decade later, but at the cost of a stupid unfinished story. They were so close to completing the circle of the entire series. Such a shame.

Solid Snake and Punished Snake are 2 different bros, and Venom Snake was a fake Big Boss. So, technically, 3 different people. Technically because David is a clone of Big Boss.
Punished Snake is not a "bro". He's Venom Snake. "Ahab" was a Militaire Sans Frontiers member, a soldier and specially a medic Big Boss trusted so much he wanted him to go in the same helicopter as him during Paz's rescue. The guy gave his life to protect BB and he had a second chance not only to live but to become Big Boss himself. The guy really did great tbf He's Venom Snake
And Akio Ōtsuka voiced all 3 of those characters in the Japanese dubs. There was no real excuse for replacing Hayter, besides Kojima's hollywood clout chasing.
It is outstanding gameplay isn’t it, matched to a cluster screw of a story. Just compare MGS1, a masterpiece of cinematic story telling … no, THE proverbial masterpiece (at least within the gaming world), to MGS5. All these kids today who defend it just have no idea how badly they’ve been ripped off. Such a shame, it was phenomenal until you start to realise that the storyline is more like a weird convoluted dream sequence, which ironically is exactly what The Phantom Pain was.
But the Ground Zeroes Snake has Kiefer’s voice as well. I like to think the Kiefer voice is Snake slowly transitioning to his older Big Boss voice (Richard Doyle) in MGS4.
As much as I'm pissed that hayter was absent from Ground zeroes I understand why kojima choose to leave him out so he wouldn't spoil the next entry to MGSV but I think it would have been amazing if after you beat both ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain you would unlock Ground Zeroes true Voice of David Hayter and also the small amount of voice you hear of big boss in Phantom Pain that would have saved tons of stress on the fan base

I'm a fan of Kiefer Sutherland from 24 so I was pretty elated when I found out he was in this. I didn't know he was part of the game till I first heard his voice when I played ground zeroes

See that would be a good reason, but one as the earlier comments stated it makes no sense to change the actual Big Boss' voice, and two they didn't change the voice for the Japanese version.
Still doesn’t make any sense. Because in Ground Zeroes you play as the real Big Boss and he’s voiced by Sutherland anyway. And in japanese, the voice actor never changes to begin with. So that’s not the reason. Kojima just wanted a celebrity in his game due to his massive Hollywood hardon, that’s literally the reason.

Not really, people just want him to voice Naked and Solid. Makes sense as Hayter played both of those characters first. Solid is also a "clone" that bears a lot of resemblance to Naked, so the two sharing the same voice is perfectly reasonable.

@@Spillow-C Nah, let's not bullshit here. The real reason Sutherland was brought in was 'cause Kojima is a huge American TV/cinema nerd and wanted a celeb in his game. The idea of Kojima thinking that "Naked/Venom having the same voice as Solid was lame" doesn't really hold up to scrutiny, given that he was perfectly happy for the Japanese VA to stay the same in MGSV (who played both Solid and Naked previously). Liquid sounds different 'cause he initially grew up in Britain (completely different accent) and presumably isn't much of a smoker, hence the lack of gravel in his voice. Solidus sounds different 'cause Kojima envisions older Naked as sounding different in his old age compared to his youth. As Solidus is a "perfect" clone of Naked, it makes sense that he sounds similar to Naked in MGS4. The change to Sutherland makes little sense in-universe, as Naked was only a year older than he was in the last game when Sutherland replaced Hayter, and I don't buy that his voice could change that dramatically in a single year.
I didn't like the voice change at first, but no shidd after finding out the truth about bog boss it made sense and I loved the reason for it. One of the most "i'm telling you what's going, without telling you what's going on" moments in history.
@silentscope1483 No. Everyone who knew about it is one of them. They made media about it because they wanted to make money off of people being scared or they were trying to help people stay indoors. I.E. Kojima encouraging people to feel like they're doing a good job being delivery boys. 21 pilots, Tessa Violet, Chemical brothers/aurora all made songs about the pandemic and released them in the middle of it. Ubisoft made "rainbow six quarantine" and they quickly changed it because it was too obvious. They're all evil people who hate common people like us. A lot of them would openly admit to wanting to kill all of us because of things like Climate Change and pollution.
He’s talking about HD Remakes of the entire series starting with MGS3 right now but soon soon!!! We will be getting an HD Remake of the original Metal Gear on modern consoles. That is my dream!
People overrate Hayter. Sutherland was an excellent choice on all fronts, they just didn't use him. Because no matter what bullshit anyone tries to spin, that game wasn't even 2/3rds finished. As for Hayter, just go play MGS4 or PeaceWalker in both those games snake sounds like shit, yet somehow people still fellate him because of some nonsensical tradition when the truth is when it comes to voice acting and acting in general Hayter is pretty mid. His body of work is proof enough outside of performances
Hayter's performances in MGS4&PW seem to be a product of the direction he was given, and not on him as a VA. He's shown to be able to give an MGS1-MGS3 style performance even after TPP when people ask him to do the voice at events. Taken as his own thing, I don't really blame Kiefer for Venom being underwhelming. He had very little to work with. That being said, Hayter's Snake voice is immediately recognizable, whereas Sutherland's voice doesn't stand out at all.
This video has a lot of misinformation. Firstly hideo kojima was not involved with the first metal gears box art and has stated so. Second, Konami didn't get mad that hideo went over budget on the phantom pain and fired him they fired him because Konami wanted to fully focus on the mobile game industry and hideo kojima was the exact opposite. Third, Konami didn't scrap a third of the game the only evidence of that is one title card and one mission left over in the game files that developers have stated several times were scrapped for story reason and not budget or konami

After that Gree started mass advertising free games by comparing with PCs and consoles. Konami saw that and knew they could'nt stay behind.Konami boost it's profit by 80% between 2011 and 2012 with their first 2 mobile games. the cost of mgs4 and mgs5 was above 50 million each. It's all business and Hideo was smart leaving his name all over GZ cause he knew. They even canceled Silent Hill project back then and NOW after a decade they bringing it back. But don't go saying "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".
I'm in the camp that mgs v (minor spoiler alert) that punished Snake or venom snake or what ever was not actually the big boss, therefore his voice wouldn't completely be like snakes and the way the production of mgs v went was truly a tragedy because damn what I would given to see a surprise twist or something.
I love kiefer. I also loved his performance as venom snake. He is undoubtedly one of the best actors of the 21st centuries. But david hayter will always be our snake. Kojima is quite popular with kicking out voice actors. Stephanie joosten, the voice for quite, also got kicked out for no reason. On a death stranding project, she was supposed to be fragile. But she got replaced without notice or information whatsoever. Kojima straight up abandoned her. No wonder konami fired that dude

I'll be honest, i have huge respect for everything Kojima accomplished with the MGS series but you can't have Solid Snake/Big Boss without having David Hayter. I've never really paid much attention to VAs before but David breathes so much life into Snake that you can't help but love, admire and appreciate it. It's a damn shame that MGS V was left on a huge cliffhanger because we'll never get to see the story go on. The only good thing i'll give Konami is to having brought back David Hayter for Delta. Hopefully David ends up getting more Snake gigs in the future and i wish him the best. Dude seems like a really fucking cool guy.
I have excepted Keifer as Venom. Its fine. He isn't a bad V.A. But David is Snake. Now and forever. I just hope to meet him in person one day and thank him for making my childhood awesome.
I see a lot of debate over the difference in voice between big boss, liquid snake and solid snake. Solid snake and liquid snake are clones of big boss, but what people are forgetting, is that they have been through different environments. Liquid snake was trained in a place with obviously British linguistics being used, unlike solid snake, who was trained in an American English area. Also, the amount of yelling, or lack thereof, can affect their voice as well. Plus smoke, whether it's cigarettes or a building on fire, will affect it. So big boss being voiced by both guys I'm ok with. In phantom pain, he's not even the REAL big boss. I kept expecting to hear him say "let's finish the game" which is from Young guns 2, but I'm not opposed to the differences. But David Hayter is and always will be solid snake.
Well said. There is so much ammo for both sides of the debate, but from where I stand, I just prefer MGS when I hear Hayter's voice punctuating my actions. He helped build the franchise and it's worse off without him. But that's just my opinion :)
Two things: 1. MGSV is finished, stop whining about not getting one extra mission. 2. David Hayter voicing Big Boss was confusing from the beginning. Solidus (a perfect clone of Big Boss) sounded different, and David Hayter doesn't sound serious enough for the plot of MGSV.
MGSV would have been perfect if they have Kiefer Sutherland as Venom, Richard Doyle who voiced Big Boss in MGS4 as the real Big Boss, and then David Hayter as Solid Snake.

I hear you but if that’s the case, why was the same Japanese actor used? I don’t fully agree to be honest. And it breaks my heart to say it because MGS is probably my favourite game series of all time, all things told. However I think Kojima tried to be more innovative as time went on and while the gameplay always continued to be the best the world had ever seen, the narrative content just went off the rails. Kiefer’s performance just seemed dialled in if you ask me.
Richard Doyle did a good job as Big Boss in mgs4, is like the game says. there can only be one room for snake and one for Big boss right? it's all about character change. His voice was great in Peace Walker but different than mgs3 cause as the years passed by for Big boss and smoking he needed to change for that reason. just business.
Good. I gave up on MG within 30 seconds of playing Phantom Pain. The moment keifer spoke. I was like, it's the guy running the radio. The in game credit came up saying Keifer as snake, havent played any MG since. Except Mg, Mg2, MGS big boss mode lol, mgs2, back in the day I played Mgs3 every day for 5 hours a day for nine months until I could beat the game on Boss in no saves and one life. I always thought Hayter should have voiced Big Boss when Venom plays the tape at the end of MGSV.

Correction: David Hayter himself says on a podcast that Kojima was never a fan of him and always tried to replace him, also he doesn't have anything against Sutherland and is aware that Big Boss and Solid Snake are different characters so it would make sense to replace him. He just thinks the situatuon could be handled more respectfully due to all the legacy and charism he built onto Solid Snake, cause by his POV Kojima just kicked his butt out.
I would argue that Snake being a clone of BB, it actually makes more sense for them to have similar voices, but I also acknowledge that Liquid's voice flies in the face of that anyway, so it is what it is.

Well, I side with Hayter on this issue but he still didn't handle it very well when he got fired. He kept posting about it on social media and even posted that photo of him with marker all over his face like "see I could do mocap too!!!!" I don't blame him for being pissed but he overreacted just a bit.
But Kojima also made him re-audition to be snake for every new game and always wanted to replace him. I think Konami wanted to keep him because they knew how iconic he was to the character. David has acted in some movies. Also, I think he did the screenplay or something for MGS4 and I think he pushed back on some things Kojima wanted like at the end when Snake starts to shoot himself and there's a bang off-screen and it shows him still alive. Hayter tried to get Kojima to re-write that because it was dumb, and he's right, it was stupid. Hayter is also fluent in Japanese. I think he also took less pay for Twin Snakes in order to get more of the original cast re-hired. He also has played all of the games (except probably MGSV lol) so he is the *perfect* person to play Snake. Kojima just didn't like him because he always wanted a famous movie star to be the protagonist of his games which makes him seem so pathetic. Kojima is really creative but he is not a good writer lol. If he made a movie I'm sure it would suck.

I feel the need to point out that everyone who says that Hayter is Solid Snake and Sutherland is Big Boss probably haven't played Peacewalker. For that entire 30 hour game, which takes place literally a few weeks before MGSV, Hayter plays Big Boss! Every other character in Peacewalker who appears in MGSV has the same voice actor.

@@brandonlewisgaming6982To play Devil's Advocate, there is a fan theory that what we play in Ground Zeroes is actually Venom's implanted memory of the what happened at Camp Omega. Kaz has that line when you call him over comms about falling for Paz's lie about being a student who wants peace. And if you recall at the end of Peace Walker the big reveal is that Kaz knew all along about Paz and Galvez's true natures, so that line doesn't make sense.
That line only makes sense if we consider that either Kojima Productions made a mistake with the continuity (which to be fair is probably the more likely option) or we play as the body double in GZ.
To also support the idea that we play as the body double in GZ is the fact that Venom remembers Paz as the lie she portrayed throughout Peace Walker. And that would fit with that line since I think one of the cassette tapes mentions that they couldn't finish implanting Big Boss's memories to Venom so parts of the Medic still exist in his mind.
Or I'm just reading way too much into it which is probs the case. Oh well.

David Hayter is actually a Hollywood screenwriter and has all the capabilities and know-how to write a coherent Metal Gear Solid game/movie if he chooses too.
He tried to have a MGS movie done for years. He was on board but the movie was in limbo for 15 years. David knows the lore, character and respect the fans. David even cut his own salary in Twin Snakes in exchange for having as many MGS cast return as possible.

Kojima was jealous of hayter getting attention for his work. That's why he kept trying to replace him in every game. Hayter said he had to re-audtion everytime.
I think Kiefer Sutherland delivered a great performance, but I do prefer David Hayter. However, I do also want to point out how pathetic it is to oversimplify what happened between Kojima and Konami. I'm not saying Kojima didn't make any mistakes with the development of Metal Gear Solid 5, but I wouldn't describe the situation as merely Konami firing him. They abused him. They locked him in a small office for several months with no contact with his team or anyone for that matter. They made his life a living hell so he would leave the company on his own. And even after that, when he started his new studio, Konami used their influence to block the studio from getting insurance. And it also shouldn't be forgotten that he isn't the only one of their employees they treated like absolute trash. It was basically common practice for them. It's interesting to see how many people can just ignore literal human rights violations when a bright shiny new toy is waved in front of their face.

Without short, a channel struggles to expand so my hands are kind of tied due to the current trends and algorithms. But I agree, it is a tremendous oversimplification. However, he did go over budget, and they did fire him, so I would argue it was factually accurate. He also unfairly got rid of Hayter, which I strongly disagree with, which was the focus of this video.

It's clear he didn't handle his responsibilities as a producer very well and mismanaged the budget, and it's clear that his ambitions were far too high to be realistically realized in Metal Gear Solid 5. And even though I liked Kiefer Sutherland's performance in the game, I don't agree with the decision to fire David Hayter. But on the other hand, I think that what Konami did to Kojima and many of their other employees was far more reprehensible than the mistakes and poor decisions Kojima made.
And I'm not sure what you mean when you ask what part I would cut out. If you're talking about your own video, that's hard to say. I understand that it's a short and that you probably would need a full video to discuss the Konami incident in a fitting manner but I'm not sure it would have taken much to briefly allude to it at least. In any case, I would have cut out the enemy of my enemy line because no matter what the situation is, Konami is not your friend.
I'm glad they're reviving some of their legacy franchises and not just letting them rot and I'm glad they're making older games available to play on new consoles but none of that means that they are anyone's friend. They are still capable of mistreating their employees and screwing over paying customers. It's fine to give them a chance, but we need to reserve the right to call them out if they start down that path again. And I hate to sound cynical, but it's very likely that that will happen.

I’m just thankful that David Hayter returned after how badly he was treated with MGS5. Us fans are just thankful he is back!
Well he's not revoicing lines in the game since they're just going to reuse the old voicework and since Jim Piddock(Major Zero) doesn't want to reprise the role since he feels his voice acting is too limited(not so much when you remember Kiefer as Venom). The only time they did that was having Para Medic's voice actress reprise a specific line on the port of MGS3 on the 3DS. But it's nice to see Hayter in the limelight marketing the remake.
Ironically for MGSV, not having Hayter or the third portion of the game kind of worked thematically. It was called Phantom Pain for a reason. To me the big boss arc ended in Peace Walker (I personally consider it being snake eater, portable ops then peace walker). I didn't need another game to justify big boss getting into Villain territory because it was hinted near the end of peace walker. Phantom Pain felt like the post-credits of "You're still here? go home the movie is over"... which I thought was the whole point of the game.

@@Sinraiser It's not Spain's fault that the first Metal Gear Solid had an amazing Spanish voice acting and people were expecting the rest of the sequel to be the same. The country respects the work of the other voice actors but it also respects the work of an Spanish voice actor who is very well known for having done thousands of voice acting in videogames such as Metal Gear Solid, Left 4 dead 2, Portal 2, Alien colonial marines, Half-Life 2 espisode 2..., as well as tv series, films, etc. And this man has been changing his voice to adapt to Snake's aging as well.
Like I said, this is a work of fans, it's not oficial and you cannot play the games in Spanish, it's just the cutscenes being uploaded on the internet.
On another note, the people of Spain respects a lot of other voice actings and here's an example. Resident Evil games where always in English until RE6, when the remakes of RE2, RE3 and RE4 came out and Capcom gave the option to choose a language, everybody chose to play them in English instead of Spanish to honor the originals.
In a summary, you should be happy to see people bringing life to legends in other languages besides English and keep the same level of epicness which usually never happens.

I feel Kojimbo could have had Hayter voice Venom in the intro up to the reveal, since Venom’s practically been brainwashed into thinking he’s Big Boss. Then when the truth is revealed in a later mission, have the voices swapped back to Sutherland as Venom & Hayter as Ishmael for all of the missions (including ones you’ve played previously). It’s also an unfinished game that turned out super well even with Konami pressuring Kojimbo. So I mean it’s always fun to speculate.
If they're going to remake anything remake Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. The last time those games were played it was on 8 bit Nintendo consoles.

I like the idea that Kojima got Sutherland to be Venom in MGSV just to nail the idea that Venom isn't Big Boss, but realistically it's just mainly his preference.
It also sucks because Venom doesn't end up saying much throughout the whole game, making the choice so much weirder.
I think we forget that Kojima is a person like anybody else with hopes, dreams and ambitions. Having created so much iconic, genre-defining content, I think he just wanted something for himself, a sprinking of Hollywood in his games. Once he got it, he wasn't quite sure what to do with it lol
When you play MGSV and learn that your character wasn’t the real Big Boss then I feel like it always left the door open for David Hayter to return as the Real Snake Big Boss or Solid.

Scrapping the last 1/3 of mgs 5 will always be the biggest crime against the fans . Such a great game, i missed hayter at first but sutherlands voice was super cool
I couldn't agree more. It leaves me so drained arguing with ignorant newcomers to the series who just don't understand the lost potential. MGS's narrative got more convoluted and less engaging on a steady downward trajectory for 20 years, but at least each game offered a complete package of gameplay and story. MGS5 gameplay was so phenominal that it's still world class almost a decade later, but at the cost of a stupid unfinished story. They were so close to completing the circle of the entire series. Such a shame.

Solid Snake and Punished Snake are 2 different bros, and Venom Snake was a fake Big Boss. So, technically, 3 different people. Technically because David is a clone of Big Boss.

It is outstanding gameplay isn’t it, matched to a cluster screw of a story. Just compare MGS1, a masterpiece of cinematic story telling … no, THE proverbial masterpiece (at least within the gaming world), to MGS5. All these kids today who defend it just have no idea how badly they’ve been ripped off. Such a shame, it was phenomenal until you start to realise that the storyline is more like a weird convoluted dream sequence, which ironically is exactly what The Phantom Pain was.

I mean for sure, that's what I tell myself, and Kiefer is great... but Hayter's voice is just so iconic... as is Solid Snake I suppose.
But the Ground Zeroes Snake has Kiefer’s voice as well. I like to think the Kiefer voice is Snake slowly transitioning to his older Big Boss voice (Richard Doyle) in MGS4.
As much as I'm pissed that hayter was absent from Ground zeroes I understand why kojima choose to leave him out so he wouldn't spoil the next entry to MGSV but I think it would have been amazing if after you beat both ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain you would unlock Ground Zeroes true Voice of David Hayter and also the small amount of voice you hear of big boss in Phantom Pain that would have saved tons of stress on the fan base

I'm a fan of Kiefer Sutherland from 24 so I was pretty elated when I found out he was in this. I didn't know he was part of the game till I first heard his voice when I played ground zeroes
It’s worth noting though there’s a very good reason Keifer Sutherland was brought in to replace David Hayter in MGS5. If you finish the game, you’ll understand.

See that would be a good reason, but one as the earlier comments stated it makes no sense to change the actual Big Boss' voice, and two they didn't change the voice for the Japanese version.
Still doesn’t make any sense. Because in Ground Zeroes you play as the real Big Boss and he’s voiced by Sutherland anyway.
And in japanese, the voice actor never changes to begin with. So that’s not the reason.

Not really, people just want him to voice Naked and Solid. Makes sense as Hayter played both of those characters first. Solid is also a "clone" that bears a lot of resemblance to Naked, so the two sharing the same voice is perfectly reasonable.

The idea of Kojima thinking that "Naked/Venom having the same voice as Solid was lame" doesn't really hold up to scrutiny, given that he was perfectly happy for the Japanese VA to stay the same in MGSV (who played both Solid and Naked previously).
Liquid sounds different 'cause he initially grew up in Britain (completely different accent) and presumably isn't much of a smoker, hence the lack of gravel in his voice.
Solidus sounds different 'cause Kojima envisions older Naked as sounding different in his old age compared to his youth. As Solidus is a "perfect" clone of Naked, it makes sense that he sounds similar to Naked in MGS4.
The change to Sutherland makes little sense in-universe, as Naked was only a year older than he was in the last game when Sutherland replaced Hayter, and I don't buy that his voice could change that dramatically in a single year.
I can't imagine anyone but David playing Solid Snake or Naked Snake, but I also can't imagine anyone but Kiefer playing Venom.
The reason I heard they replaced David in mgs5 was for it’s more serious tone than the other mgs games and if I remember even David agreed with it

I didn't like the voice change at first, but no shidd after finding out the truth about bog boss it made sense and I loved the reason for it. One of the most "i'm telling you what's going, without telling you what's going on" moments in history.

21 pilots, Tessa Violet, Chemical brothers/aurora all made songs about the pandemic and released them in the middle of it. Ubisoft made "rainbow six quarantine" and they quickly changed it because it was too obvious. They're all evil people who hate common people like us. A lot of them would openly admit to wanting to kill all of us because of things like Climate Change and pollution.

People overrate Hayter. Sutherland was an excellent choice on all fronts, they just didn't use him. Because no matter what bullshit anyone tries to spin, that game wasn't even 2/3rds finished. As for Hayter, just go play MGS4 or PeaceWalker in both those games snake sounds like shit, yet somehow people still fellate him because of some nonsensical tradition when the truth is when it comes to voice acting and acting in general Hayter is pretty mid. His body of work is proof enough outside of performances

I agree. Hayter went way over the top after MGS3, MGS4 und Peacewalker were pure cringe in terms of voice acting.
Hayter's performances in MGS4&PW seem to be a product of the direction he was given, and not on him as a VA. He's shown to be able to give an MGS1-MGS3 style performance even after TPP when people ask him to do the voice at events.
Taken as his own thing, I don't really blame Kiefer for Venom being underwhelming. He had very little to work with. That being said, Hayter's Snake voice is immediately recognizable, whereas Sutherland's voice doesn't stand out at all.
This video has a lot of misinformation. Firstly hideo kojima was not involved with the first metal gears box art and has stated so. Second, Konami didn't get mad that hideo went over budget on the phantom pain and fired him they fired him because Konami wanted to fully focus on the mobile game industry and hideo kojima was the exact opposite. Third, Konami didn't scrap a third of the game the only evidence of that is one title card and one mission left over in the game files that developers have stated several times were scrapped for story reason and not budget or konami

I love kiefer. I also loved his performance as venom snake. He is undoubtedly one of the best actors of the 21st centuries. But david hayter will always be our snake. Kojima is quite popular with kicking out voice actors. Stephanie joosten, the voice for quite, also got kicked out for no reason. On a death stranding project, she was supposed to be fragile. But she got replaced without notice or information whatsoever. Kojima straight up abandoned her. No wonder konami fired that dude

I'll be honest, i have huge respect for everything Kojima accomplished with the MGS series but you can't have Solid Snake/Big Boss without having David Hayter.
I've never really paid much attention to VAs before but David breathes so much life into Snake that you can't help but love, admire and appreciate it.
It's a damn shame that MGS V was left on a huge cliffhanger because we'll never get to see the story go on.
The only good thing i'll give Konami is to having brought back David Hayter for Delta. Hopefully David ends up getting more Snake gigs in the future and i wish him the best. Dude seems like a really fucking cool guy.

Sutherland has a pretty nice take on BB/Venom though. While I miss Hayter in MGSV, I still enjoy listening to Sutherland's voice.
I have excepted Keifer as Venom. Its fine. He isn't a bad V.A. But David is Snake. Now and forever. I just hope to meet him in person one day and thank him for making my childhood awesome.
I see a lot of debate over the difference in voice between big boss, liquid snake and solid snake. Solid snake and liquid snake are clones of big boss, but what people are forgetting, is that they have been through different environments. Liquid snake was trained in a place with obviously British linguistics being used, unlike solid snake, who was trained in an American English area. Also, the amount of yelling, or lack thereof, can affect their voice as well. Plus smoke, whether it's cigarettes or a building on fire, will affect it. So big boss being voiced by both guys I'm ok with. In phantom pain, he's not even the REAL big boss. I kept expecting to hear him say "let's finish the game" which is from Young guns 2, but I'm not opposed to the differences. But David Hayter is and always will be solid snake.
Well said. There is so much ammo for both sides of the debate, but from where I stand, I just prefer MGS when I hear Hayter's voice punctuating my actions. He helped build the franchise and it's worse off without him. But that's just my opinion :)
Two things:
1. MGSV is finished, stop whining about not getting one extra mission.
2. David Hayter voicing Big Boss was confusing from the beginning. Solidus (a perfect clone of Big Boss) sounded different, and David Hayter doesn't sound serious enough for the plot of MGSV.
MGSV would have been perfect if they have Kiefer Sutherland as Venom, Richard Doyle who voiced Big Boss in MGS4 as the real Big Boss, and then David Hayter as Solid Snake.

I hear you but if that’s the case, why was the same Japanese actor used? I don’t fully agree to be honest. And it breaks my heart to say it because MGS is probably my favourite game series of all time, all things told. However I think Kojima tried to be more innovative as time went on and while the gameplay always continued to be the best the world had ever seen, the narrative content just went off the rails. Kiefer’s performance just seemed dialled in if you ask me.

In MGSV, technically all David Hayter has to do is say the voice lines in ground Zeroes and THEN the final motorcycle scene. Completing the story.
Richard Doyle did a good job as Big Boss in mgs4, is like the game says. there can only be one room for snake and one for Big boss right? it's all about character change. His voice was great in Peace Walker but different than mgs3 cause as the years passed by for Big boss and smoking he needed to change for that reason. just business.
Good. I gave up on MG within 30 seconds of playing Phantom Pain. The moment keifer spoke. I was like, it's the guy running the radio. The in game credit came up saying Keifer as snake, havent played any MG since. Except Mg, Mg2, MGS big boss mode lol, mgs2, back in the day I played Mgs3 every day for 5 hours a day for nine months until I could beat the game on Boss in no saves and one life. David Hayter IS Snake.
