  • It finally happened... someone attempted to break into my truck camper while I was sleeping in it! But Max and I had a great time winter camping all the way up to the break in. We do a tour of his hot tent canvas truckbed tent with a diesel heater, we bake homemade pizzas in a dutch oven on the ground and even see the Northern Lights / Aurora Borealis... you don't wanna miss this one!

Something similar happened to me. I was off-road, total wilderness, only me and my girl friend in our 4x4 camper in the middle of who-knows-where. Woke up in the middle of the night as someone was shaking the camper. No voices but we could hear the footsteps of lots of people, sometimes stumbling on some of the camp stuff outside. All night long, off and on they kept shaking the camper. My girl friend did not want me to move the curtains and look out the window into the dark night for fear of seeing someone's eyes who might be looking in. Finally in the light of the morning I look outside. It turns out it was cows rubbing themselves on the corner of the camper.

A good rule of thumb for Dutch ovens is that each briquette is 25 degrees F. You typically want more coals on top and just a few on the bottom.

I mean, yeah, I'm in a city but say it's pissing down rain and going to clear up the next day, or even in a few hours, the zombies don't care, they're out there getting drenched, out staggering around and stealing stuff and doing whatever it takes to get their drugs. They're staggering through the parking lot at 3AM. Why not just tuck in and go to bed?? Oh yeah, I forgot, the undead don't care about sleep. Anytime is zombie time, and there isn't anywhere that you won't find one staggering around, they're like roaches or rats.

Good thing you did by having a weapon, but more important by not camping alone. I see a lot of campers on YT do solo camping. If someone gets in trouble like in your scenario, it would be much easier for the aggressor to have more advantage over them. Also, any other vehicle-related situations that one can not fix alone would need a helping hand, especially if someone is going to the woods, where help might take some time to arrive. I wish you a safe camping journey.

Keeps you safe on your side and it keeps whoever it is on the outside of the door from becoming dead meat. Most of us dont want to be put in a situation where we have no choice but to take action when an unknown threat comes towards us. 🙏☮🙏
Ps - and if you dont have a flood light on your porch maybe put a high density brightness flood light up to swich on when unknowns come messing around your door! Just some thoughts. Be safe out there boys and always be prepared for the unexpected.

Fry a couple pieces of bacon in the pan to grease the pan, cook the hash browns in the pan and the bacon in the oven. Line a baking sheet, 400°F for around 20-25 min depending on how you like your bacon. Comes out perfect every time and way less messy than frying in a pan. Love your vids and setup!

I have a similar Dutch oven, so I will try baking a pizza in it. Looks delicious. Thank you for the many ideas your videos provide. I lived in Alberta for 10 years and drove up to the end of the Yukon territory one time... in the summer and the sun never set. It was hundreds of miles of nothing but tundra. I hunted deer by myself, sleeping in the bed of my pickup with a -40 Cabela's sleeping bag in Nov and filled my tag. Back then I was 22, now am 64 and have moved to Armenia, the First Christian Nation on earth. God bless you.

Was fishing with my father and friends in backwoods one time, and fishing was great that day and we stayed until nearly dark. After the 45-60 minute walk back to truck, the friend discovered he had his keys locled inside the truck. We were about 2 hour drove from the nearest asphalt. We debated busting the window to get in, but remembered seeing a small cabin on the drive into the fishing spot. So we began to walk, and at about 2:30 AM, we reached the cabin. I can only imagine what the man must have thought when a knock came on his door at that hour, in such a remote location.
The gentleman was obviously startled but was nice enough to get up out of bed and bring the 4 of us out over kilometers of gravel backroads where we could meet up with the friend's spouse who after reaching a pay phone, we were able to call for the spare set of keys to be brought to us.
Its a bit different when someone is looking for help verses someone who is loaded drunk and dont know their in the world. Id rather the person looking for help to be knocking at 2:30 AM rather than the drunk who could do anything.
Always good to have the 12 gauge handy whem backwoods regardless.

WOW! This video had it all! Wish my hub & I had that truck tent when we first started camping with the 56 International pickup. Camping in the desert in the winter, the temps would get down to the low 30s and once in a while the upper 20s, but the winds made it a lot colder. Sleeping on the a quilt on the bed of the truck wasn't comfortable at all. LOL! So glad we eventually got rich enough to afford a tent and air mattresses. LOL! Matt has such an awesome setup!!!
Your camera did a great job catching the Northern Lights & the fireworks at the same time. The fireworks didn't cause the focus of the camera to haze out or lighten the Northern lights.
My heart goes out to the poor man. Barefoot in the snow is pretty good sign that he has major mental problems. I hope he will get proper care and kept somewhere safe.
As always, I just love all your videos and adventures. Thank you for another wonderful experience and what looked like a great breakfast. But now i am super curious about your favorite pizza place. If the crust tastes better with a little burn on it, it must be something special. GREAT JOB MATT with making pizza in a Dutch oven!! I watch a youtuber that does cooking with all cast iron in the outdoors, just like the back in the old cattle drive days with a chuck wagon. Maybe he and Matt are distant kin? LOL!!! You all keep having fun and staying safe! May God continue to Bless and Protect you all!!

*Newly Updated Safety Suggestions: for RV lifers, Campers, Hikers, Explorers, Nomadic Life, and Travelers*
I just happened to see your channel, and others similar channels recently, and I think that you, and others sharing their actual reality, and some have expressed some of the up, and down sides to van, RV, or vehicle living.
Although, I just noticed your TH-cam channel, and other similar channels, displaying van living.
I just wanted to remind everyone to Aware Be of your surroundings and Alert, I just posted this anyway to help anyone who may benefit from these suggestions
I believe that it is very helpful, and beneficial to others who may be thinking about this type of living without actually thinking through, about the some of the realistic problems that could occur with vehicle or van living etc...
People need to know what the up sides there are, as well as some of the down sides of vehicle living.
I believe this channel, and other channels have been informative to others, including myself.
Although, I am NOT living in a vehicle or anything like this.
I feel that you , and others TH-camrs sharing this with your viewers will be very helpful.
I wish you ALL the Best with your traveling endeavors.
I shared this with several other travelers, as I watched their TH-cam channel for the first time, as yours, and I shared with them this information that may be helpful to you as well to others.
Therefore, I would also like to suggest a few Safety tips, and items that may help you, or others in your viewing audience.
Although, you may have knowledge of this already,
I am not sure, so I hope this will be helpful to you, others or someone.
*Keep a Extra working cellphone with you or in your vehicle.
You can purchase inexpensive phone with a very low monthly price between 25, 35, 45, dollars a month with unlimited data and text, and some have Nationwide coverage
Do your research for the best fit for you
Consider Carrying Several Extra portable cellphone phone chargers, and cables.
    Consider theses items:
    *Mini portable power charging station.
I have also seen outdoor portable solar powered power stations, that can be recharged from sunlight this may be very useful to have, to power your devices.
*Invest in a Cellular signal booster for outdoor use, and camping situations to boost or amplify your cell signal and reception.
Consider also the purchase of a WiFi signal booster to also boost your WiFi signal.
Research to see what you prefer.
    *Very Inportant:
Invest in a SOS distress electronic signal device, this a kind of device can send out a distress signal with your exact location.
There are various types of these devices, and including devices that can be used when boating, or camping situations.
*Some have emergency Strobe lights SOS signaling with location alerts, and location updates that can be sent to your family, and emergency first responders.
Some can be synchronized with your smart watch or phone.
There are some satellite SOS texting messaging, locator devices that will send messages with your phone even if there isn’t any cellular signal, or WiFi. With this device your can still text, and communicate with others in a emergency satellite transmission.
Check online, for various emergency SOS products, some are small to fit in the palm of your hand.
You can check online, and on Amazon, research what SOS devices will be a good fit for you.
*Mini portable vehicle battery jumper charger
    *vehicle battery jumper cables
    *Vehicle Jumper cables
*PLEASE BE AWARE* that in the *WINTER*
*vehicle *Batteries fail* many times in very cold weather conditions.
Vehicle batteries drain more often in the winter months.
Please Keep a vehicle battery portable jumper pack, this is a device that can jumper or boost your vehicles battery yourself without another vehicle.
If you have a older battery in your vehicle, Please have it tested or replace it, and consider the purchase a new vehicle battery with higher Cold Cranking Amps rating.
Be Aware that Sometimes even a battery that is a few years old can fail in the Winter months, and extremely cold temperatures.
Some alternatives to Winter Camping, Travelers, Explorers, etc, if you can find a Warmer Climate Location to stay during Extreme Winter months, or stay with family for a few weeks.
Another alternative is renting somewhere although this can probably get expensive.
What ever you decide Be Careful, Alert, Aware, Safe, and Informed...
    *Keep a Fire extinguisher handy
*Smoke detectors, and Carbon monoxide detectors can be helpful
Keep a First Aid kit with
Bandages, antiseptic, and other first aid necessities etc. and good vitamin supplementation, and fluids that promote hydration.
    Consider installing;
*Mounted Dashboard camera front and rear possibly.
*Exterior vehicle mounted camera for the front, rear, and both sides of your vehicle.
Some can be activated by motion, Including spotlights.
    *Interior vehicle cameras
    *Flashlights or pluggin spotlights
    *Portable spotlights, and lanterns
Keep a few whistles around with you, and in your vehicle possibly in your vehicle’s center console
*Keep a Sound horn, for hiking this can service, as a deterrent, and a emergency signal alert for others.
*A set of long range 2 way radios, walkie talkies, to communicate with others during trips, some have 100 mile radius keep for emergencies, you can keep with you when hiking.
Use your own discretion regarding the use carrying of any weapons.
    Don’t forget to bring
    Bear Spray
    Pepper spray
    Where is allowed
Purchase a couple canisters just in case and keep it with you
If you own a drone you can use it to survey your area for animals etc.
However, Please Be Safe and Beware of your Surroundings.
Stay Alert, and Be Safe even when stopping at Rest stops, Truck Stops, and conducting your various tasks.
Keep in often contact with your family, friends etc.
Keep up with the latest Weather Updates, beware and prepare for unexpected Weather events and conditions.
    *VERY IMPORTANT*
    *WINTER AWARENESS*
I would suggest *NOT* to travel to locations without internet, or cellular service in the Winter, the reason is that weather conditions can change very quickly, and you absolutely DO NOT want have a vehicle break down, or malfunction, or emergency, and not have the availability to communicate, and contact your family, and or, emergency road assistance, or emergency services.
Please Keep in mind that even in area where there is cellular service and internet, in the Winter sometimes there are ice storms that may occur and this can cause Power or Electrical failures, until utilities crews repair lines.
    *Your Safety is Important*
*PLEASE BE AWARE* that in some extreme cold temperatures that vehicle fuel lines could Freeze and causing a vehicle to not start.
Just in case Keep your gas tank filled, which helps prevent vehicle fuel lines from freezing.
Keep gas or fuel line additive, or gas line antifreeze, that is rated to use okay for your vehicle.
Check with your a certified mechanic and your vehicle owners manual, and or dealer repair facility to inquire what is best to prevent freezing gas tank and lines in extreme cold.
In the Winter even your bottled Water can freeze so Be Careful and Plan ahead.
    *Safety is Paramount*
    *Your Life is Important*
*You want to Live to Travel another Day*
    *So Be Safe*
    *Stay Alert*
    *Keep your vehicle gas filled*
Don’t ride on fumes, or on Empty.
Don’t chance your Safety by running your vehicle fuel or gas too close to Empty.
Fill it up anyway, it will save you alot of time, and headache later on.
Remember to keep up on routine maintenance, check your tires for wear, keep up with your fluids for your vehicle, like oil levels, antifreeze coolant,
Please carry extra (oil)(washer fluid), (brake fluid), (antifreeze).
You will need extra Winshield Washer fluid because of the ever changing Weather conditions, dustly roads, especially in slushy wet roads.
    *WINTER AWARENESS*
In the winter consider purchasing and deicing Windshield Washer Fluid, for the much colder weather conditions.
Furthermore, you will need extra Windshield Washer Fluid, Because you will Be driving more often in dusty, dirty, windy, and varying weather conditions.
Your windshield will gather dust and debris from long term driving.
Also, Remember Because you are on the road riding for sometimes very long distances, and long periods of time, I would suggest investing in 2 sets of tires, and a spare, the extra set at a home base, friends or family’s house to rotate later on, also make sure that you have a spare tire in your vehicle.
Check the mileage ratings on your tires they all very.
Conduct visual inspections of your tires often, check for damage, wearing, air pressure, etc
Keep a pressure gauge to check your tires pressure and a tire pump. Electric, Portable tire pump.
Keep towing insurance to Be Safe if you ever need it.
It Doesn’t cost much try to get National coverage if available, or where you will be traveling.
Keep Extra financing, and savings for any unexpected issues, vehicle repairs, and overnight stays, in a emergency or if you need to rest indoors.
    Keep Enjoying Yourself,
Keep Enjoying the outdoors, and Nature
    Just..Please continue to
    Be Positive, Safe, and Alert..
Wishing Success, Well-being and Happiness You All.
    God Bless You, and everyone
Traveling, or living in their vehicles, Vans, RVs, Hiking etc.
    Please Be Safe.....

It's not a camping experience, but when I said to my Dad about that fact I REALLY love to urb-ex (especially ruputably haunted ones) & photograph nature/wildlife/plants in old disused graveyards, my Dad told me he thought I was either really brave, stupid or crazy & asked why I'm not scared of seeing, running into ghosts, etc (not a chance of scary wildlife as I'm the UK, btw). I told him I'm scared of no such thing, even though do I believe in the occult, cryptids, supernatural/paranormal, etc! It's actual people. Humankind, aka the living who are waaay scarier to me & I'd much rather encounter a ghost, beast than an unknown person/being!

Glad the crazy situation didn't get violent.
Way back in 1982 I was backpacking with a buddy of mine across the southern U.S., hitchhiking. We were in Texas on a secluded highway. A pickup truck came up the road at high speed, and we stuck out our thumbs. I kind of made out two passengers then saw the muzzle of a rifle appear out of the passenger side.
We heard the whine of a round pass between us and hit the speed limit sign right behind us as the truck sped past.
    Real nice...

This. i don't think I've ever made plans, to watch a YT video. if it's not already uploaded, or currently live, I'm not giving it any attention.

The reason I do premieres is so I can live chat with the audience while the show premieres. If I just release a video, there's no live chat at all and I can't talk with you guys.

The fireworks and Northern lights made for a fun New Years watch. Scary break in experience! 😡Thanks for sharing!

The Northern Lights were spectacular. The shot with the trees, that would be a great wall shot! So lucky to be able to witness that on the regular!
