      When you get a little time with them, let me know how they are treating you. Id love to hear back from you once we get through the danger-phase. By that, the two weeks after u buy them and try to hit every single puddle and storm u can to test them. Lol. Be safe tho, and thanks for watching. I cant tell you how much it means to me.

    Have been following your various mileage check-ins re: these tires. Kudos to you for making a subject tedious to many so fun and informative!
    FWIW, we got a set of CC2s for our 2015 Passat TDi last fall to replace the OEM tires (Bridgestone Potenza A/S tires). Although we’re not racking up the high miles per month you do, our experience with the performance, grip, durability, and safety of these tires has been quite similar to yours. We do have a lot of snow and ice on the streets and unfortunately, I feel a little nervous to drive through those. • @jakeofreshly
      @jakeofreshly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You know what's funny. When I walked into the tire shop, I had made up my mind that I wanted to set up michelins. Both of my parents have them, and a bunch of my family and friends have them. But I've never bought them because of the price. So I walked in the tire shop and told them "I want a set of Michelin tires". It didn't matter to me what type. I just knew I was walking out with a set of michelins.
      Low and behold, the only ones available for my 19 in rims were the cross climate twos. They even didn't have them in stock and had to go get them from the warehouse. But I did not care, I made up my mind and decided we were getting some Michelin tires. So an hour and a half later, they came back and slapped them on. And that was the beginning of the journey. Sort of random, but ended up being the best choice I ever made

    • @jakeofreshly
      @jakeofreshly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah they're ridiculous. So I had a 2006 Ford explorer sport Trac. Now I'll tell you, I had all terrain tires on there. Which are pretty big and grippy. I literally kept those tires on the vehicle the whole entire life of the vehicle. I think I bought it at 120,000 mi and sold it at a little over 200,000. And at one set of tires lasted over 80,000 mi.
      Like I was saying, the damn strips in the Toyo tires started showing red after a belt 30,000. Once I got up to 40,000, they were already showing bright red strips.
      I didn't think they would be that bad, but looking back on it they really sucked. Especially since I've driven 30,000 mi and they are the exact same tread depth. You can check my durability videos in my 4,000 mi review and see how the tread pattern has not changed at all.

    Hey Jake
    Love your videos about the CrossClimate 2 tires. Much appreciated.
    Was wondering what you think about the air pressure to use with these. I’ve seen other videos that recommend 2 to 4 psi higher on these tires to promote even tread wear.

    • @jakeofreshly
      @jakeofreshly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So that's a little bit funny. I used to pump my tires up as high as they said on the side of the tire, but I stopped doing that a long time ago when I realized the preference is to keep them with what the rating on the side of the door says. So for the longest time I was keeping them around 30 to 33 lb. For the past couple months I put them up to about 38 just because I wanted to try and see if I could get better fuel mileage, but just no success.
      I don't think you could go wrong with putting them at 30 to 33 as stated on the vehicle. They do very well on the vehicle as the weight profile of a Mazda CX-5 is a little bit different.
      But honestly, I have had no problems keep being them a little bit higher.
      The funny thing is I keep the tires a little more firm at 38 now for the past month or so, and I don't notice any more noise or any rougher ride. I pump my girl's tires up to 40 the other day, and it got way noisier and way bumpier. Not with these

  • @sthbg
    @sthbg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi! I know MAZDA has a pretty stiff suspension. Would you PLEASE compare the riding comfort (harsh ride) of CrossClimate2 on rough surfaces compared to normal summer tires (I do not care about the noise)? How well do they absorb the road imperfections?

    • @jakeofreshly
      @jakeofreshly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So my intuition, and my gut feeling, is telling me that it must not be bad because I've never really had to think about it too much. I've noticed that they drive true and straight. I've noticed miniscule noise and MPG. But honestly, nothing about these stick out as riding stiffly.
      Tires I had before on my vehicle are Toyo tires, and that would be my baseline for measurement because I drove them 48,000 mi. You're pretty uneventful. I didn't notice anything except the fact that I slipped and my traction control had to cut in all the time. They were okay...
      So these tires do have a round contact patch, which is not really known for being the smoothest softest driving. But honestly, if we were friends and I just wanted to give you an honest opinion, I would have to say these drive every bit as good as the summer tire.
      There's no way I could criticize these tires and say they are harsh. Now I also keep my tires at 35 PSI, which is the same that is recommended on the door. I remember when I first got these, I pumped them up to 40 or a little bit higher because I was worried about fuel efficiency. And I can say that was a little bit bumpier. But honestly, I can't say whatsoever that I took a loss and rider comfort when I purchased these.
      Also, my Mazda is pretty new. I feel like it's a brand new car, but it actually just turned 3 years old the other day. So go figure. But I've never changed the shocks or changed the struts or really had to change anything on the vehicle except for windshield wipers. So I'm driving it basically as it came out of the factory with about 80,000 mi on it so far. And everything seems to be good

    • @jakeofreshly
      @jakeofreshly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know that was a long answer, and I hope I didn't talk to much. But as a normal person who drives a lot, talking to a friend, I'll have to say these are comparable to my summer tires that came on a vehicle. They are no more stiff and no more harsh than the Toyo tires I took off the vehicle.
      Anything else you were thinking specifically? I feel like I'm going around your question But not attacking it directly

    Loving your updates on the tires Jake :)
    In one of your earlier videos, you had spoken about how you haven't done any tire rotations yet. I'm curious to know if it is necessary as the wear on the tires is still looking good. I ask this because I plan to purchase this for my Mercedes Benz C250 4MATIC (all-wheel drive) and the manufacturer recommends a different tire dimension for the rear wheels (slightly wider).
    Since the Cross Climate tires are unidirectional, I wouldn't be able to rotate them left to right. And if I go for the thicker rear wheels, I wouldn't be able to rotate them front to back either. So I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
    Thank You!

    • @jakeofreshly
      @jakeofreshly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey buddy. First off, thank you so much for watching my videos. Is people like you commenting on them that allows me to keep making them. It's motivational, it's humbling, and it's really fantastic thinking that I have brought a little bit of value to some people that I've never even met before

    • @jakeofreshly
      @jakeofreshly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I actually did a video on the rotation of the tires. If you go through the playlist call me you can see it. But when I went to the Mazda dealership, I asked how the tires would be rotated because they're directional and that means they would basically have to go front to back, or they would have to dismount and remount the tires to cross them over. Both of which are not really good situations
      And they told me, to my face, that they have not rotated tires left to right and about 15 or 20 years. One major reason was liability issues, because some tires look normal but they're actually directional. And then a technicians would rotate them across and mess up a vehicle because they didn't realize they were directional. They also said something THAT WAS EXACTLY LIKE YOUR SITUATION. They said sometimes, tires in the back can be slightly different dimensions than in the front. So because of this, they have not rotated a tire across for a couple decades because sometimes the technician would not notice and do it incorrectly.

    • @jakeofreshly
      @jakeofreshly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So honestly, I was in the same boat as you. I just did not see how the rotation would work. But the manufacturer insisted and also showed me how they rotate the tires. They insisted that it was not necessary to rotate them across, because they have not done it in 20 years.
      However your situations a little bit different because their directional and also you have different tires on the back. Which, like you said, would mean that you can't go take them across left to right and you also can't rotate them front to back. I'm not exactly sure what they would do in that situation, but it seems like they would probably want to dismount the tires.
      I haven't really noticed them wearing out whatsoever, and to be honest with you I haven't got them rotated and probably 15,000 mi. I usually do it every 10,000 mi, but I have been slipping on the past oil change. And I can't notice any difference in the tread
      I'm actually just about to post a video about my 40,000 mi review, and it's the first time I've seen any wear on the tires whatsoever.
      This may sound strange, but I don't know how they're lasting as long as they did. My set of Toyo Tires wore out around 38,000 mi and I still ran them for another 10,000 mi. They were slap wore out. Almost slick. But I have already run these tires 40,000 mi and for the first time I just barely saw the first signs of wear. So I'm kind of expecting to get 80,000 mi out of these.
      So if you're worried about durability, I think you will be okay. I've done a video in the playlist on durability and I've also done a video on the playlist on rotation directional times. Maybe those could help

    • @jakeofreshly

      Does that answer your question? I know it kind of does, but not really...

    • @PicoPianist
      @PicoPianist 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jakeofreshly Thank you for replying Jake. I always love your detailed replies. So many insights in them. And also I just checked your playlist and turns out that the only video I missed is the one you talked about rotation. (God bless playlists!)
      Am not convinced that I would need rotation if the tires are that durable especially as my car almost has only around 10000kms left in its estimated life span. The OEM had 17 inch wheels Front 225/45R17 and Rear 245/40R17 but the previous owner from whom I bought the car had upgraded it to 18-inch rims with 225/40R18 tires (some local brand) all around (both front and back). And since I got a flat tire on my driver's side now, I thought of taking the opportunilty to get CC2 and as well fix the tire profile by converting the 17 inch dimensions to an equivalent 18 inch ones. I'm not worried about rotation but more now on whether I should retain the previous setup and go 22540/R18 all-around or get a wider tire in the rear.
      But anyways, thank you for the answer. You add more value to us than you think you do. Your videos are benchmarks of how reviews should be done from the perspective of owning and using the product rather than just stating the facts. And the monthly updates are so important in deciding whether a tire suits your needs for the long run. You are amazing! ❤️

      They actually do make them a lot different for your market. In Europe, they make it more for fuel efficiency because you’re feel so much more expensive. In America, we have a lot longer roads and you can drive 2000 miles and not be even across the country yet. So they make them more for longevity here. More rubber. Heavier.
