How do you think Peter Frampton would compare? Like the 55, parts are available and reasonably priced, saw looks good, plain and simple no bells or whistles, fairly simple 2 work on and all @ good saw
In small wood, Frampton might actually be able to take it. Frampton revs higher, but the 55 has gobs of torque. Wait till y'all see it with the 24" bar...and even at 28"! I am a happy boy!
They don't need anything from the factory. But...this saw is finally cutting like I've always wanted it to. I cut with a 24" bar and even a 28" today. It pulls REALLY well.
@@novicelumberjack So i'm still "scared" of porting. Mainly scared of buying replacement cylinders. If you had to pick the "limiting" parts of the stock porting, what's your opinion? Transfer height? Exhaust roof? Port width? I know the factory timing 51/55 seems to be very similar from what i've read, and i'm going to have a hard time reassembling my 51 without at least doing a LITTLE grinding. What would you do?

@mattfleming86 Mark out a line the width of a penny from the bottom of the intake. Remove that amount from the intake floor and get the entire intake the texture of a cats tongue. Don't raise the exhaust, but you can widen it if you want. Muffler mod and send it! It's easier than people think but remember...I didn't see any change until I advanced the timing. So you're gonna have to do that.

That’s how they learn as well! 😆 In all seriousness, anyone who’s ever built or done anything will tell you if they are being honest and have the capability and aptitude for learning will do things differently the second, third or even the tenth time we do something then we did the first. Standing back and watching is way easier than actually doing so know worries on doing something incorrectly. Just finished my 50 Rancher, excited to test it. This makes the second port job on it. I have a mild ported 291 that im comparing to and starting to wonder if im just expecting to much from it.
A good timing advance sure does help a lot. Except the Poulan hightops, they are advance to the limit from my experience. Any advance at all and if fights itself and gets way to hot. 😊

Totally different saw now! I think your low jet is a bit off sounds like and that may help with your restart on 1st pull instead of 2nd ...maybe just a tad more on the high jet even fuel makes torque
Think about it more as advancing the flywheel not the crank. Crank stays put flywheel is rotated in direction of engine rotation to advance the ignition timing.
I understand what's going on completely. But in order to measure how far I am advancing, I need to create a set-point and then move the crank backwards. I can't put my angle gauge on the flywheel, it goes on the crank. So what you are trying to point out doesn't do any good unless you can measure it. And the only way I have to measure the degrees of rotation is with my degree gauge which attaches to the crank shaft...thus, in order to advance the flywheel accurately, I must rotate the crankshaft backwards the desired 6⁰ while keeping the flywheel in its original position, and then lock the flywheel down. What you are describing is in fact what is happening, but cannot be measured by any means that I can easily attain. Understand why I did it the way I did?

If your able to find a way to hold the flywheel securely (fixture of some kind?) you can then rotate the crank with your degree gauge in place to set the timing. What I said previously is just a different way of thinking about it is all.
The closed ports on a 4910 allows more higher rpm torque then a 55 open port design. The closed port is more for high rpms then a open port being more of a low-end torque design. 90° has a lot of effects on where your torque/hp and rpm is at. You can adjust a closed port to more of a 90° and increase the low-end or turn it more towards a 45 and increase higher rpm power. The ignition timing with these chainsaws and aftermarket parts is definitely something I'm curious about since I've had a few not run good and wonder if ignition timing as well. Damn making someone wonder again. Hopefully everyone is doing good buddy as well as yourself.
Those ports don't really make the torque look at a 4910 cylinder and the 55 2 completely different styles of ports the 55 resembles more of the open port style even though it is closed
@@rncboy2The Hyway closed port jug is really a half assed job of it, they just closed in an open port jug, the transfers dont have proper closed port shape like say a PP 325.

Now, @bodie - would be great and tremendously helpful for your fellow learner of this tool regarding What have your learned from beginning to end as you workout the 55...lessons learned, mistakes that turnout to be a great learning opportunity, reality vs. expectations, frustration and victories...and the great satisfaction after "through it all." There is an "episode" title - working on 55, let me save you a headach and money.

I did nothing to my 51 but a base gasket delete, muffler mod, and timing advance. Honestly happy with the way it cut and behaved.

Hey KK, Just 2 point out, this 55 of his has a Hyway closed port cylinder.
