    Hi Paul. I have to share this with you. I am 63 yrs old and didn’t take up golf until age 58. About a month ago I adopted your approach primarily to back issues. Today I played 18 with 3 guys in their 30s. I never missed a fairway off the tee and either kept even or out drove these younger guys. They accused me of using an illegal driver because “there is no way you can hit the ball that far with that slow mellow swing”. I use a 2019 Epic Flash driver, hardly illegal. 1 guy was using a Stealth II and the others were using the new Paradyme driver. I’m still laughing and getting ready for a nice steak dinner with the $20 apiece they coughed up because an old man beat them by 3 strokes. Thought you might enjoy hearing this. Thanks againSo much for your dedication to the game!

      Wow! Great story. Proof that an effortless swing really does work. One day these young guys will be old guys so maybe they will remember this once they lose serious distance from hitting hard.

    As lovely as a draw in a drive looks Im with you Paul. Pretty happy with the fade and dont want to stess about working on the range to get 5 extra yards on a draw.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No doubt. 5 more yards yet way harder to perfect. The issue for most people is they come over the top and slice it. So they see the draw as this magical shot that's going to solve their problems. Why not fix the over the top and loosen the wrists a little so the face is less open. I do teach people to draw it if they want but for the most part I am getting them to hit it basically straight. A little draw or fade is fine but lots of curvature is not good. Stick with the fade. Way easier. Glad you see it.

    Referred to this video by Paul Wilson.
    A sleeve of bowling balls would last for years !! However, if they removed the gutters, and replaced them with water , woods, and sand, the bowler would be thinking about thinking outside the box. For me, decades ago, someone said "if you want to lose your slice, learn to hook " so I changed my sport to tennis for 20 plus years, with occasional golf. At 60 plus years, its back to the golf struggles. Paul, You are a great help and an inspirational beacon of hope . Thank you . John m

    Hi Paul - hats off to you for being able to hit these difficult shots and teaching us how to do the same. As for where I am on the golf swing learning spectrum, I am going to nail the Body Swing hitting it as straight as I can on a fairly consistent basis before I delve into the area of hitting draws. Once again, your imagery and ability to simplify complex topics are spot on! Thanks, Dan

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much. Yes, I like straight or falling right right but I gave in to those wanting to hit a draw. This is super hard to hit so if I can make it simple at least they will get it. For you, stick to the plan. Work on the positions and do daily practice swings. This is the fastest way to get it.

    Hi paul had a lesson today but wanted to check out similar information that you promote. All I can say is I wish you were on my doorstep I would be having lessons from you .For me the biggest problem is not knowing what causes the inconsistency in golf . So after playing for 15 years I am going back to basics and concentrating on grip and takeaway . Watched your explanation of these and going to build on them.thank you for your efforts trying to enlighten us with your wisdom .

      @@paulwilsongolf hi paul thanks for getting back to me .i have had 4 lessons over the last year in a effort to gain consistency. All four lessons said my grip was too strong ,hence shots occasionally going left . And also I have a very Handsy swing often bringing it on the inside to much . Thought I had corrected both but still struggled with consistency . Having the fourth lesson has made me realise that without a neutral grip and an improved take away I am not going to progress . Just come back from golf and am concentrating on the takeaway with a more relaxed half swing . Encouraging nine holes but am old enough to realise that the change is not going to happen overnight .
      Thanks for the offer to correct me ,point me in the right direction . Not sure how you find time to reply to so many people ,but I know you sincerely like helping people . All the best steve

      Give that a try for now and see if that gets you on track. The real key is not hitting or helping the shot with the arms. You hit means you can twist the face as you hit the ball. Need to stop hitting. No hitting means no twisting. Watch these:

    Hi Paul, I sometimes when I'm lined up straight I flip my hands at the end of my swing and the ball goes annoyingly left... what is that shot called and the remedy to STOP it. I am not swinging out to the right. Thanks Paul, your the best!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don't worry about flipping. They much such a big deal of it when really you are doing half right. You have the spin. The problem is you are on the wrong direction. This means you are starting your arms down first not your legs and hips. All you have to do is fire the lower and let the arms follow and you go from a pull/pull hook to dead straight.

He said what you just said, he strengthens his grip very slightly but instead of using the bowling analogy he said he imagines a clock and tries to hit the ball to 1:00.

  • @dsc-nr5zy
    @dsc-nr5zy ปีที่แล้ว

    This is the way to do it. I learned this shot because it's necessary if you want to turn it over AND hit it high. Pulls never go high. This push draw is actually going to go the furthest as well because you're taking off spin and launching it higher.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah those pulls are terrible. Just a face way to draw it. Sure, it's okay if you need a quick draw on a hole or around a tree but if you want a real draw then do the work.

  • @simonmackness403
    @simonmackness403 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really enjoyed this video. I thought I'd mastered the consistent draw - I now realise I have 'half a draw' as I do always need to aim left to get the draw. Will work on hitting to the right gutter with a square set up!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well when needed you need to do the fake draw. The real draw takes serious work. To do what I call the fake draw just aim the face where you want the ball to land. Aim your body right. Swing right. If so the ball will hook back because the face is preset closed.

  • @kiddytube3915
    @kiddytube3915 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lol! I’m a beginner golfer and I was consistently hitting a pull hook and couldn’t figure out why.
    I thought about aligning my direction to the far right just so i can make the fairway.
    Then I started aligning my shoulders so that impact was earlier in my swing and now I’m hitting straight draws without changing my foot alignment. It’s the easiest shot in my limited repertoire. 😂

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, you seem to be on track now which is a good thing. Just realize that if you start hitting you will hit it left. That is the sign. So as soon as you see a shot like that do practice swings at knee high with loose arms. This will allow you to feel the legs and hips powering the swing. Then you step up and apply this feeling to your shots. Boom! Draw is back.

    Hello Paul. Love your stuff. I like to hit a fade. I stand open, aim club face at target, then feel I'm just turning back and through with quiet hands. My bad shots with Driver are Pull, or high cutting shot. My thoughts are, maybe standing too open. or taking club back too much inside, or opening club face in take away. Any help much appreciated

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Glad you are doing well. The pull is you just releasing it a little early. Probably trying to give it a little extra. We are all guilty of doing that. Face has to be open to the path. If you try to hold it off though you get the high right. So I would be practicing daily with an alignment stick on the ground. Aim it down the left side of the fairway and face slightly open. If you aim too much and face too much open your doing to have issues. We are talking a few degrees here.

      Here: th-cam.com/video/GERdoCcL5rE/w-d-xo.html If you are a drawer you may find it difficult to fade it. Depends how much inside out you swing at it. Invariably I hit a push or a push slice. UGLY !! I’ve been working on this early release to try and get the ball to turn over right to left. Anyway, my concern is this “early release” (which to me appears to be rolling the foreman’s at the transition into the downswing) will cause me to cast the club, lose the wrist angle thus lose power. So, my question is does this early release cause casting of the club even with an in to out swing plane ?
    And thank you for your channel. You are and have been so helpful to me and so many people. I would like to come to Las Vegas and take a lesson some day. Shouldn’t be too hard to convince my wife. She’s always down for Vegas ……………….

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Push slice sop easy to fix. This is all of 5 mins. Rolling early doesn't get you casting. Casting is from hitting and tight wrists. If you roll your wrists are releasing. Yes, if you are purposely rolling it you will send it over the top but you don't care because step 1 is to fix the spin. This is where people go wrong so they never fix anything. They are working on stuff and trying to hit perfect shots. To do that you need to do 3 things. Problem is you are working on 1 of them so how do you hit perfect shots working on 1 thing. Not going to happen so you're going to sit here forever trying to get it. So you need to see it differently. You are working on spin first. You need to purposely roll it over and start hitting hooks (watch the spin on the ball NOT the direction). Once you can hook 10 in a row you then switch to direction (body). You remember the feeling of the release as you THINK about turning your hips first (use the belt buckle trigger its the easiest). So after you hook 10 in a row you hit the top and start the belt buckle first. Arms follow and release the club as it approaches impact. If so, you hit it straight. Watch me do it and think of what I just said as you watch it:
      th-cam.com/video/q5RojTx5sHI/w-d-xo.html
      If you can make it here that would be great. Course was sold so it is turning private in July. Not sure what's going to happen after that. Hey Paul, what do you say to those proponents of the Modern Swing who say keep the face square and just turn with the body? All the best pros these days don't really have the flip release you teach.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Here is what I say: I find it funny how some pros start doing this "modern" swing (that I tried 20 years ago) and now that seems to be the swing. Also, funny how none of them are dominating the tour. Then along comes Scottie Scheffler doing and traditional swing and dominates. Why on earth would I ever want to teach people this new "modern" swing? My students are not pros. My students are typically older (60+). Imagine a 75 year trying to do that swing. Their wrists are already locked and they can't turn with any kind of speed. How is that person going to ever hit it anywhere doing that swing? Plus, they literally practice 20 mins before they go to play. My teaching is based on Iron Byron. The hinge on the machine is loose so that is what I'm going to teach. Oh yeah, the machine is 100% and it was modeled after arguably the best golfer of all time.
      I wouldn't say my release is a flip release (this is a made up description to create a negative). The wrists are loose and arms powerless. Flipping would be the person actively flipping it which is not what I teach. Now if someone is slicing and I want them to hook it I need them to purposely roll it for a while until they can hook it. Once they can they are turning their arms off and using their body. So they are not using their arms and they have no flip.
      I have been teaching the same way for 31+ years now. I get unreal results super fast. I know my students and what they are capable of even doing. The swing I teach is for life. Anyone of any age can do it forever. This is what I do and if anyone wants to come and see me in action they can. So those are my thoughts about the new "modern" swing. I remember when Byron Nelson came out with the "modern" swing due to the change from hickory to steel shafts which created the best golfers of all time. I guess that's not so modern anymore. Be interesting to see who these new young guys stack up to the likes of the past greats. I know who my money is on.

    Great explanation. I practice the pull hook already as a shot for escaping trouble off the tee.
    I’ll try this next time at the range to see if I can develop the true draw. Thanks coach.

      Not sure I am going to give everything away on on TH-cam. This is in my Body Swing book and videos. Not really fair to those who have purchased it. Just think coil then hinge. Uncoil then rehinge.

      Yes, those are the positions. Stay focused and try to do them perfectly. Too many people want to kind of sort of do them. They say they have tried my stuff for years and I watch them swing and it isn't even close. This stuff is not hard but it needs to be done precisely. Just do daily practice swing until mastered. This is the fastest way to get it.

    Thanks man great work this an area that I fight…. Left on left….. the grip is my key… if keep my swing to what I think is 80% it seem towork… over swinging.. causes me the pull hook…. is my killer and left left rears it’s ugly head

    • @paulwilsongolf

      Exaclty. The pulls are you trying to give it more with the arms. In doing so you tilt left sending it over the top. You need to watch this:

      Simple physics. So into the future stick to 80%. This is what I do.

      Loose is the key. Seniors want to just whack away at it which will never work. Don't need to be strong to be loose so anyone can do that for life. Just need to trust it. Watch:

    The only time i try to hit an exaggerated fade...or hook is when im trying to get the ball back into play from errant shot....trying some heroic shot to the green by some fade or draw results in some doublecross and now im either out of bounds or in the water...playing now another shot back to the fairway.....it is impressive to see pros on tv be in trouble severely...as in no shot then they work the ball onto the green.....well they are pros.....better to take your punishment...hit it to your favorite wedge distance and try to get up and down.....you got to know your limitations.

    I hear golf announcers say "he is setting up for a draw" and all of them aim to the right (right handed golfer). They dont seem to be changing the swing direction, much, if any. Willing to give your method a try though. There is so much contradictory info on TH-cam. Funny how you never see bowling instructions putting golf clubs in the alley to teach how to hook a bowling ball! :)

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The announcers say that because if they were setting up for a fade they would be aimed left. Rarely do you ever see a pro aimed into the gallery on the right. If you want to hit this shot try it. This is a simple as it gets. Yeah, maybe they never thought of that for bowling. I just happened to think of it to learn the draw in golf. Hmmm.

      IMHO I think changing setup is easier than changing the swing plane, especially for higher handicap players.
      I watch hundreds of vids and subscribe to 50+ golf channels so I look for common ideas across them . I'm totally on board with the Body Swing and I am a fan. Thank you for all your tips!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it is easier. I say that most people do this. This tip was to hit what I call a real draw. Takes work and constant practice. I don't promote this shot but so many people want to hit it I gave in to and did this tip and a couple of others. I prefer straight or fading but most people need distance so I don't mind them trying to draw it. Thanks for your support. I appreciate it. Be careful not to get confused. There is a lot of info out there. Just keep it simple.

      Stand taller and quit swinging too much from the inside. You are over doing the inside out path with a swing that is too tilted.

  • @markk171

    The "push" draw has always been my natural shot shape...even when I first started. For me its my default shot. I know its a real draw because it starts right of my target line and tuns back. What I have NEVER been able to do is hit a fade on command. That shot is almost impossible for me to hit.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's because you attack from the inside. You would have to play a push fade as Couple did for year. Got to aim way left though. Not sure you want to hit that shot. Be tricky if you have played that push draw for a long time. If you want to try this then aim the face at the target. Body left where you want it to start. Hit the top of your backswing and to start down think TURN. You turn and the club will swing left not too much from the inside. This should allow you to hit it.

    Nonsense. What youre refering to as a "real draw" is actually a "push draw" (a ball that starts right for a righty and comes back to the middle).. what youre refering to as a "pull hook" is just a draw.. thats ehat happens when you draw the ball while aiming at the center. Its cool that you favor a fade but stip texching people inaccurate info.

    • @brycepalmer4061

      Your pro bowler annalogy would be a push draw

    • @brycepalmer4061
      @brycepalmer4061 ปีที่แล้ว

      A pull hook is when is starts left and draws even further left. A draw starts straight and draws left for a rightie and reverse for a lefty

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have argued this point in the past and I do not have time to keep arguing it with you. Yes, a real or true draw is a push draw. On tour this is the draw they hit. They do not aim right and pull hook it left. Just look at shot tracer. The ball 99 out of 100 times starts right and draws left. So what you are saying is if I pull hook it and aim right it is now a draw. Think not. It is still a pull hook. If you think a draw is easier to hit than a fade keep thinking that cause every person I talk to who went from a draw to a fade would disagree and I've been around golf for quite a while. Also, interesting why mist tour players are fading it now. Had one guy seem to think it was cause of the new equipment. Really? Yeah right. So this will be my only response. I will keep doing what I have done for 33 years now. I know the results I get and will keep doing it.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, which is a real or true draw NOT a pull hook.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      A pull hook is a pull hook regardless of alignment. Something doesn't just magically turn into a draw cause you aim right. Fix the flaw.
