- Wondering how you can bond with your budgie? Maybe these 5 ways can help. Personally, I’ve noticed that the bond with our budgies became better because of these 5 things.
I hope you can also improve the bond with your budgie by applying these 5 ways. Of course, every budgie is different, but perhaps these methods do work for some of you :)
For me, bonding with your budgies is not so much about being able to stroke or cuddle them. Rather, I find it important that the birds feel comfortable around us.
Our goal is to tame all of our birds so much that we can take them on our hand whenever we need to, either to put them in the cage or to care for them.

Slow blinking is a cat's way of saying "I love you," so it's really cute to know something similar works for budgies

@Misty & Blue - Thank you so much for your video. It gave some encouragement to me. I just got a new budgie going on week 6 now. It's been a lot harder than I expected it to. He's STILL hardly playing with any of his toys. There's one he'll peck at every now and then, but all of the other toys and cuddle bones, mineral block, etc. just sit there untouched. He doesn't want to come out of his cage and on those few occasions I've managed to get him to come out, he'll just sit there like a statue, silent for a few hours. I feel terrible that he's still fearful, sigh. He trusts my hands in his cage and will allow me to hand feed him, but besides that, he really has very little to do with me or say. I had budgies as a kid, but I don't remember having to work so hard to win them over. Of course it was 2 then. Right now, I just have the one. Anyway, this was encouraging. I've been beside myself on trying to figure out how to make him feel more at home.
I'm glad the video gave some encouragement 😊 Your budgie reminds me of our Misty and Blue the first months. Maybe it was even for a year 😋 They were very timid and didn't do much at all. What did make them more lively was filming them with our phone. I think they liked it because the case is a bit reflective and they could see themselves there 😋 What made a big difference was when they got their big cage. I remember Blue was hopping from left to right out of joy. Perhaps the biggest change was when I started training with millet and later click training. It did take weeks to months, but it was worth it. Misty took the longest to change and she was the last to leave the cage, but now we barely recognize her 😊 She's so social and explorative. So with enough patience and the right encouragement they can definitely become more lively 😊

Very nicely done , from what I see your budgie like to share humans, got one that likes to all the attention , but has a go at the other budgie if it joins in doing tricks and stuff :)
They are quite well behaved in that sense 🤭 Usually with 2-3 birds they tolerate each other. When more come then they get a bit nervous 😂

How do I mimic a budgie? Hop around and chirp?
They like it when you wink and turn your head like they do, for instance. Hopping around is not as common for budgies and chirping is kinda hard to do.

I wanted to say that I have an adult budgie I brought like 7 or 8 months ago. he is not scared of my hand and I think he is comfortable too...
I wanted to tame him but the thing is that he steps up on my finger but then goes away I don't why I mean he doesn't stay there so if you can recommend something 😪
It's quite normal for budgies to not stay on the finger very long. They're very active birds who move around a lot. They often hop from perch to perch and so on. They will only stay on your finger when they have a clear reason to do so (for instance when they get food when they are on your finger or when you help them get back to their cage after they got lost). Maybe you can let your budgie step on your finger and give a treat whenever he is there. Then you can try extending the time before you give the treat, to encourage your budgie to stay. Like, the first times you give the treat right after he steps on, then later you wait 1-2 seconds before you give a treat and so on. Then he might learn to stay on your finger longer because he knows at some point he will get a treat. Another method is to teach commands. Each time your budgie is on your finger you say "stay" and you reward him as long as he stays. When he leaves, you do nothing and wait until he is on your finger again. It does take a lot of time and effort to teach them that.

@ Misty and Blue - since you have such good knowledge on budgies I really need your opinion. So I have a male budgie which is 1 years old. I have no other birds in my house and I want another budgie for him. Should I get a male or female I want a female so badly but I want you to give me your opinion and tell me which one you would or you would prefer. Please please please
Both female and male has its advantages 😊 At the start, we got a male and female because we were told that budgies should be in pairs. However, it turned out our budgies' personalities were not compatible. The female didn't like the male and the male is also not that interested in females. That's why we got another male and female later and we noticed our male actually is most interested in having male budgies as friends. He's not that interested in mating. I think it's easiest to have two males because they are almost always compatible and they are easy to tame and really friendly towards other birds. Females can be much pickier and they are also more hormonal. I would personally prefer to have two male budgies. I would only get a male and female if I really want to breed. Hope that helps ☺️

When will you know when it’s time to let your budgie out of the cage? I’ve tried it before,and the6 got scared, so I’ve been dodging letting them out again.
We let them decide when they wanted to leave the cage. Basically every day we opened the cage door and if one of them wanted to go out they could. We also put a chair in front of the cage and placed the cage door on top, like that they could very easily climb out of the cage and sit on the cage door to see if it was safe. At the start they mainly liked to sit on top of the cage, but later they got more comfortable flying around. We also placed a playground in the shape of a tree next to the cage so they had a place to fly to.
They also really loved it when we put cages on top of the closet in the bird room, because it was the highest part of the room and they felt very safe there. Of course you can also place perches and other things, as long as they have places to land.
My budgie hop on my finger what should I do 😪
If your budgie hops on your finger, then that's great 😊 If he doesn't, then you can try training with millet or a target stick 💕

Hey I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I’ve had 3 budgies for about 5 months now and they used to be so sweet and loving towards us but now they freak out when we put our hands in the cage just to change their water and food and one of them starting pecking and biting us every time we come to close to her. How can we get our budgies to like us again and stop being scared towards us? Im not sure what we did wrong :(
I noticed our budgies also got a bit more scared of our hands lately. I think it's because I'm not doing daily (click) training like I used to do. Maybe implementing a kind of training would help your birds. I personally like click training with a target stick. Even a few minutes per day can make a difference. You would need to start very slowly, just slowly placing your hand near them, in a place where they still feel relaxed but you are quite near to them. If you repeat it several minutes per day, they might get more familiar with you again. If you do click training, I would also take a similar approach with the clicker and target stick, just so they can get used to seeing those objects.

@@misty_blue thank you! We have at least one male, and I believe 2 females but the (believed) females are younger so it’s harder to tell gender, but the male let’s me pick him up still, it’s just the other two that are acting that way
@@kylaraine1037 yeah our females are also like that. Two never go on our hand and one always bites a little because she doesn't fully trusts our hands. I guess it's also in their nature. Males tend to be more adventurous. I do think it's possible to train females but it takes more time and patience 😊
Hi! It’s been 5 months already, and my 2 parakeets still get so scared when they come out of their cage. Can u please help me? Also, I just recently switched their diet from seeds to now pellets and they only want seeds. Can you help me with that as well please?
They can take very long to feel comfortable, depending on their personality. Our Misty took more than a year to feel safe outside of the cage. What's very important for them is routine so they know what to expect. They also need a safe territory where they feel at home and enough high places/perches outside of the cage where they can land 😊
Personally I didn't manage to switch my birds to pellets yet. I tried by gradually adding more pellets to their seeds, adding about 10% more pellets to their seeds every week so they could get used to it. But unfortunately I couldn't continue the process.
Some people also use the method of soaking the pellets because some budgies find them easier to eat that way. I hope you can find the right method for your budgies!

@@Princessgramma443 I really hope so too! 😊 Another trick I saw is that you can pretend to chew a pellet when your budgies are looking at you to show them that it's food, but I think it works best when you have a very close relationship with them.

İ moove to new home in other city befor 3 days in travel i put cage of my budgie in my hands for trip of 5 hours i was so affraid something happen to him he was looking curious all the road when we arrive his looking surprised not singing at morning feeling sleepy is this normal after mooving to the new home im affraid he will be in depression

I think it's quite normal in a new environment. Our budgies are also very quiet when they're in a holiday destination. Usually after some hours or a day they start to get more relaxed. They can get very attached to their territory. Maybe your budgie gets happier when it listens to budgie sounds or nature sounds?

But in this new home its so silent no outside voices but his looking calm sad

Is it just me or does anyone else’s budgie hate millet?
Ours love it, but it did take quite some days to get used to it.
